Some use the profanity f-bomb as a joining word to give flavour to their sentence. I don't care unless it really gets in the way of what a character is trying to convey.
I disagree mainly because I swear all the time. The fact is you can have conversations where people are swearing constantly in a sentence but not meaning anything by it. I realise what you are saying about the amount of profanity but that makes it just that little more darker in my opinion.
As always, what Telltale is best at is adapting other works to game format and that's their saving grace here. I, too, think there are some games where swearing is used as a crutch and is too excessive. I know people swear a lot in real life, I swear a lot in real life, I have no problem with swearing in general. But games are not real life, they're written, they have a script, and the words that the writers choose to include can help or hurt that script. Deadwood, I think, was an example of when excessive swearing could be not only brilliantly used, but also completely necessary to the style of story that was being told. GTA V uses it, I think, too much. Sometimes swearing is used in place of actually good dialogue.
For Telltale, though, they write their games to perfectly match the source material. There's a lot of swearing in The Walking Dead because there's a lot of swearing in the comic. Likewise, the Fables comic has a lot of swearing (though with much more stylized dialogue than TWD) and the game has been made to match. Other games like Jurassic Park and Back to the Future match those particular movies' levels of swearing. So, while I agree with you, some games can be too excessive, I think that so far, TWD and The Wolf Among Us are getting it just right.
Depends on the game. TWD had very naturalistic dialogue but not every game is meant to sound like the way people really talk. The dialogue in The Wolf Among Us is very stylized.

Maybe stylized isn't the word, but it certainly isn't natural. Most people don't talk like that in real life - Bigby the tough guy private eye, Faith the femme fatale, Toad the cockney wiseass supporting player. The characters in TWD talked more or less like real people, the characters in TWAU talk like film noir characters. I'm not saying it's unusual. They're fitting a certain style very well. I'm just saying that some styles lend themselves to excessive swearing more than others.

Any of you cause Tell tale to lower its swearing. I will be upset. Who are we honestly to judge a script. Do you pen a letter to a director when you didn't like his movie. Bioware once called it, "artistic intergity" they did a ton of work. I think one more dangerous things we could do, is question this fine company. If they want thow a stripper non censor. Who am I to object.
If you dont like it fine, but you seriously have make them play, hello kitty island to be non offensive
Please leave the profanity alone and just stop playing these great kickass games. You're bringing me down, bro. And it has been said that people who swear a lot are actually the most honest people. Motherfucker. See? I hate you just a notch less than I hate your post. Also, I'm gonna be hating on anyone who's actually stupid enough to support your shit. Enjoy or stop fucking playing and miss out on all the epic shit for being queasy about baaaad wuuurds.
Devs, please don't listen to this retard. He's prolly just having a bad day what with the morality stick up his butt.
We're paying customers. We have a right to criticize the game if we don't like a certain portion of it. The people at Telltale are smart enough to sort out which criticism to listen to. There's no reason to have a discussion board if you're only allowed to agree with Telltale.
For the record, Telltale isn't going to cut swearing out of TWD or TWAU. It was engrained in both comic universes.

From a writer's perspective... I suppose in Ep5 the swearing went up a notch, from "whenever it felt alright" to "pretty much with every sentence".
There's better ways than swearing to convey character stress, I too thought it was slightly overdone at times. If you swear all the time, there's no power in it anymore. Earlier in the game it was a big deal when someone almost said f*** in front of Clem, and swearing was done to emphasize. Later on characters just swear randomly...
Now, I don't mind the swearing itself at all, but it did start to feel artificial to me.
Well My 2-Cents is this and simply this! if you do not like or appreciate the swearing or other bad language that goes on in the Adult games, then it is YOUR right not to purchase said games or items that have a rating showing that there is such, in said game and or items!, so it all comes back to personal decision for you to buy or not to buy. Just saying
And MissDRJ I'd have to agree with you those would be my exact words as well,LoL
Yes because giving feedback is a horrible thing to do and we should burn in hell for it. How dare we look at an aspect of something we love and give our views about it? Besides, I don't think anybody said "don't swear".

Feedback is not a horrible thing in itself. What if Tell Tale staff see this thread, gain wrong impression that we want filers on adult language. The game is clearly fine as it is. Any tweaking or bringing down cussing, even a notch. Will just ruin the game experience for everyone else. We are finally at a level, where they can bash in people's heads.
Then cuss. I don't want that ripped from us, because one person thought their ears, couldn't stand to hear swearing. By the way, I'm more then comfortable with swearing process. If Tell Tale is looking at this thread. I invite them look my thread. "We need more romance in video games"
Anyways, none of the swearing really seemed excessive. During an apocalyptic situation I'd be throwing around curses like my life depended on it. I swear already rather a lot, though.
All the "F***'s in this thread are giving me the giggles, considering the topic. I kinda wanna swear just to see if the board is censored now or what, but someone did type "Oh Shit" so I think all's well.
The precedent has been set, both in previous games and the source material, if you are sensitive to gratuitous profanity, you may want to choose a different game. Maybe gratuitous violence is more your speed.
I can't believe nobody has posted this yet.

Well there is a lot of characters who never/hardly swear. Ben, Doug, Carley, Clementine, etc. The fact that there are that many shocks me. It is the fucking zombie apocalypse, after all.
Harpa Life is actually pretty sweet right now, even sweeter with S2 on it's way. It's been a while it's nice to see you on the forums here, I wish the other guys would come back more often too.

I specifically came to the Telltale games community page to bring up this topic. After turning off Walking Dead episode 1 five minutes in because the writers resorted to an F-Bomb as a dialog choice, I was hoping the next Telltale game would bring back the awesome writing of Sam & Max, Back to the Future, etc. Instead, I played through the demo of Wolf and was completely disgusted by the filthy language. I'm seriously disappointed that the success of Telltale is coinciding with writing that is simply gutter language of the common thug.
I consider myself a "mature" person, but I don't consider overuse of profanity mature - exactly the opposite.
You might want to research their next franchise before buying it. If the source material has swearing, they go nuts. But hey, wasn't Timmy the Rat's kid in Sam and Max Season 2 really foul mouthed?

Before I say anything, I want to say I read the first two pages then went to the last so my apologies if this is already brought up in this thread but: Telltale plays off the source material. While I do understand why less casual swearing would have a greater impact when it could emphasize the situation, Kirkman for The Walking Dead and Willingham for Fables have cursed a lot in their respective comics.
They're just WORDS people! If I say "oh, poop" or "I think those two are banging" or "take your gosh darn butt and get the frig out of here" I am expressing the exact same ideas as the swearing dialogue, just in different vocabulary. IT'S A GAME ABOUT ANIMATED CORPSES BENT ON MURDER! THEY'RE JUST WORDS. I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS!

The source materials have graphic language so the games have graphic language. Its marked mature for a reason. They do have warnings so people know what they are getting into.

I don't think its lazy writing or uncreative to write people talking the way people really talk. I think its more awkward to try to write around it.

Rated M for Mature.
Did you not see that?
I say fk like ever other minute under by breath. F***ing idiots around me get me pissed. Fk.
Well that's silly. Question everything. Otherwise one day you'll be ruled over by benevolent insect overlords.

Don't think it really matter any more, they're not going to offend the zombies around them. Swearing would be the least of my worries.

I get exactly what you mean. I don't have a problem with it, but it would be beneficial story wise if they reigned it in a little bit.
As for Russell's story though..... Well I'd be swearing a lot in his position. Simply because of Nate.

Holy manure, nearly 5 minutes full of swearing. Nice.
1 Post for this message board subject. That's perfect. loved it.

The biggest twist possible, I think Clem is going to use a swear in S2.
Also if you haven't joined in yet... the swearing thread.

Conversation with them is getting old, honestly :c
You can pretty much get the whole story out of this one video. Every major shot has a cuss in it, so...
Larry is the king of swearing

Jimmy Two-Teeth and his son, Timmy, who suffers from terminal Tourettes. Sam and Max are hardly the characters to represent high moral standards.
They did have a whole wing of hell dedicated to their misadventures after all.
