You can't be sure. There's common error. Choices aren't carried over properly. Right now I think it's just a bonus, three different screens unconnected with previous decisions. Clem is looking down or left - it doesn't really matter. We'll meet people from first and second background anyway.
Look at Clementines face between her facing forward and her looking left. The one where she looks to the left has the face of her 9 year old self. I'm not sure, but maybe the picture suppose to represent a lost of her innocence. If that's the case, then maybe the picture where she looks to the left may be due to Lee's influence to her that cost her to lose her innocence much earlier then the picture of Clementine facing forward. And the war paint/ blood may have something to do with what happened in episode 5 of season 1. In my playthrough...

Perhaps this "Lee's influence" theory needs some more exploration. In my game, Lee usually took the more violent options, and always explained to her why he had to do the things he did (like kill the "bad" people). I got the downward facing/older Clem.
Essentially all of my options were the exact opposite of yours (except for not looting the car and amputating the arm). Which slide do you have? If Lee's influence in S1 does have an effect on these slides, yours should be opposite of mine -- which means you should have the left-looking younger Clem.

Yes, I think you're right that horizontal smudges have Vince in the background. I'm not sure how many we're working with exactly, either, though.
What seems most puzzling about this is that you can look at the slide before you even import a game, at and least for PC, I've gotten the facing down/vertical paint every time. I assume it's the "default" for PC. I then tried starting a fresh file, randomizing the S1 choices, and then backing out to see if it changed anything a couple times, but it's remained the same.
This all lends credence to the "it's simply console version" theory... but that still doesn't explain what appears to be the down facing/vertical paint PS3 picture. It would be nice if we could find someone on PS3 who got this slide to confirm its existence for us, make sure we're not just wrong about that image.
Hmm. It is really hard to tell with that picture, but I also think it's a PS3.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the slides with Clem looking dow… moren with horizontal smudges have the Vince sihouette in the background. They're the same one, right? I'm just trying to get an idea of how many different versions of the slides we're dealing with.
Assuming that image above is from PS3, and @Rigtail posted below that their PS3 got the one with Clem facing left, then we're certain that console version isn't the only factor.

Until someone confirms a different picture on the PC-version other than frontal Clem, Kenny/Nick-looking dude and visibly blood/paint on Clems face, I'm done testing.
Things I tried:
1) reinstalling and several randomized starts of the second season (so that pretty much rules out any impact from season one)
2) replaying 400 days with opposite decisions (since 400 days isn't shown in the opening of this season, I figured there could be a "default version" used instead of randomizing the 400 days part, so that a randomized start wouldn't change the image)
3) replaying episode 1 from season 2 with opposite decisions (was my last hope, that the picture actually changes within the season according to this seasons choices, somewhat unlikely, but it could have been)
So has anyone with the PC-version seen another picture than the one I have?
If not it's up to the PS3-players to find out whether or not they have means of changing the image.

Ok I think we've got it wrapped up. Here goes.
PC and iOS users are getting the slide with Clem facing forward, looking down, vertical smea… morers with the Kenny silhouette.
Xbox 360 users and PS3 users in EU are getting the slide with Clem facing forward, horizontal smears and the Vince silhouette.
PS3 users in America are getting the slides with Clem facing left.
I would like to hear from other iOS users (I've only heard from one so far) but I think the "Episode 4 Slide Enigma" is more or less solved.
I play PC and I just checked my two saves. In the first one, Vince did not come with me. In the second, Vince did come with me. However, both saves have the same episode 4 screen with Clem facing down with war paint and the Kenny/Nick looking guy.
I play on Ps3 and I have the Clementine looking to the left picture.
This perplexes me and I can't decide if this is just a Version difference or if this was based on one obscure choice from Season 1.

yeah i get the other with clem facing forward and vince shadow because im ps3 from europe i think
but the slide is available to so see before you import your saves so it's no based on your decisions

Nope. I tried opposite playthroughs of 400 days. Image stayed the same. That's not it. Read my post below.
And something to do with region as well. PS3 users in Europe seem to be getting a different slide to PS3 users in America.

I think it's been figured out already (the amid the ruins slide topic pg 8??) but here's why I don't think your decisions make a difference...
The slide is visible BEFORE you import your season 1 save file...
