I got my tax refund the other day. Thanks very much Emily, a nice surprise indeed; I didn't even know about this whole tax debate thread until this post.

I'd just like to add as well, Telltale are great when it comes to listening to their customers and just generally providing support for games. I've bought a fair few games from you guys and I'm always impressed by quick responses to any technical issues I encounter, as well as the general widespread participation of the Telltale team on the forums. It definitely helps to build community around a game when the developers are keen to be a part of that community as well.

Thank you! We do work very hard at it. :D

In any case, as of about three weeks ago we are no longer charging tax on merchandise for international orders, and we're currently figuring out the most painless way to credit people who were charged accidentally.

I have some questions about that. I live in Germany and just ordered the Sam and Max Season 2 DvD and Surfin' the Highway. Do I have to pay the tax, when the shipment arrives or are those items really tax-free? If I have to pay it, how do I pay it? And what will be taxed? Just the book and the DvD (which did not cost anything, because I was already a Season 2 customer) or also the shipping costs?

You'll probably be charged customs, and that takes into account the whole package. Whether you're charged customs/how much you're charged varies on a lot of things. You'd still be charged customs whether there was a tax charge from Telltale or not. But yeah, you don't pay tax.

I got a mail about some tax being refunded (I'm from The Netherlands) . That's nice... :)

Not to sound greedy, but I'm looking at 'Past Purchases' and I'm wondering... what about the tax I paid during previous orders? Did I get that too?

Nope, all of this stuff only applies to orders starting in mid-July, when we moved from having another company handling our transactions to handling our own transactions.

Ah okay. No problem. TTG-quality is worth every penny. ;)

That's not a mistake. EU countries require VAT for downloadable software.

I am in the UK. I was charged taxes for my download of Strong Bad Season 1.

I never had to pay taxes on an international order before.

Is this "tax" going to the UK government or is it just going in your back pockets?

Hey if I was phyically importing this game would I be exempt from taxes since I would already have paid for them?

Is Telltale VAT registered in the EU? If not then you have illegally taken money from me. My order cost me £28.09(exchange rate was $1.42).

Oh and by the way VAT varies across Europe. Some countries charge only 15%. Why didn't you charge me 15% instead of 17.5%.

It's going to the UK government, but thanks for the insinuation. :p

Since the issue that was being asked about in the original post on this thread has been resolved, I'm closing this thread. Anyone who has additional questions about tax in our store, feel free to send me a PM and I will do my best to answer your questions.
