Space Circus Catastrophe Help

I'm stuck at the scene where "Dangeresque" has to travel to the "sun" in a rocket. I have absolutely no idea how to play the rocket minigame or even what the controls are. Could someone tell me what the controls are and how the game works?

    Easy enough:

    On second thought, here
    http://hrwiki.org/index.php/Space_Circus_Catastrophe

I was going to write about controls, but I dunno if you got a Wii or PC. Either way, your controls are listed there.

Shoot Clowns with missiles, Save circus performers with bubbles, and move out of the way of food that comes your way. (If a peanut comes from the left side of the screeen, you'd dodge right)

    Thanks!

What you missed was that sitting at the opening screen for a few seconds automatically brings up a page showing the controls.

    Yeah, that too, heh.

I was kind of annoyed how it doesn't let you start at Pluto and made that section so easy. But I suppose it is pretty cool to be able to use your SCC skills in the story.

Just for the record, space circus catastrophe is the worst of the minigames so far. I don't know if its just me, but my controls are really laggy, I have to mash on the arrow keys quick just so that the control registers to move out of the way. And sometime's I will be waiting almost 30 seconds for something to appear on screen. Maybe I'm just pissed because once I get to about 12,000 all the food shows up right in my face and I can't get out of the way, and just suck at this game.

I'm shutting this piece down and playing some Hot Bablien Odyssey. (Which they really should port to a standalone). Or maybe ET for the 2600, its just about as good as this thing.

    100% aint worth the trouble.

Are you playing on the Wii or the PC? I'm playing on the PC it's great, I haven't had any of those problems and can easily get 20k+.

    PC.....

    showoff.
    :)
  • edited November 2008
Yeah.... I can get 2 thousand easily. Just try harder. ;)

Maybe it's a computer thing then, I mean, if you're runnin' Windows 95 and got 20 windows open it's gonna take a little while for stuff to come at you and controls to be sent in, but I got no idea why the Carnival Food is coming at you faster than normal.
  • edited November 2008
I don't think its glitchy or anything, I just think I suck and aren't pushing my arrow keys hard enough.

The food doesn't start at a closer range for you as you get up in the levels? Sometimes even the clowns or performers will start out covering just about the whole screen. I figured it was a difficulty thing. But when the food does it, it *expletive deleted* pisses me off, there's no way to get out of the way.

Current status: made it to the Black Hole (with 19550 pts)

I can't say I'm having the problems poohead900 is having. I've had maybe one or two controls fail to register in the entire time I've played it, and I've never gone more than a couple of seconds without seeing *something*.
  • edited November 2008
Ok, the 30 seconds was an exaggeration. But its still can wait quite a while before I see something.
Another thing I've noticed, if the circus performers spawn close and I shoot, and get hit anyways, I'll lose a shield and the +100 will show up after the game resumes.

Just one more thing that makes me hate this game just a little bit more. Every time its "THAT GOT HIM! STUPID*multiple expletives deleted* GAME"
  • edited November 2008
This mini-game is realy easy... I got 14000+ points at the first try (2 black hole). But it's still realy fun :).
  • edited November 2008
Y'now if you have to smash in the keys to get it to work it can sill be a hardware thing. What kind of key board are you using?

You're describing some very strange behaviors. On mine, they always spawn far away and come closer. They never "spawn close". They approach faster as the game proceeds, but they always start far off.

Same here, but I have seen instances of getting hit and getting the points.

People have posted that they've reached the Black Hole - I'm assuming that's the stage after the Sun? I only reached Mercury (score of 16,000) before I died and I really wasn't all that bothered to go back to Pluto and play it all again to find out what came next.

The levels are the planets from Pluto inward, the sun, and the Black Hole. Once reached, the Black Hole level continuously repeats.

Ugh. I thought that this would finally be the game that ended. I never got to the black hole, so I didn't know that it continued forever. Stupid planets tricking me into a state of happiness and hope....

I keep getting to mercury, and then I just get my butt kicked. I keep having the problem poohead mentioned earlier, where I catch a performer but he still hits my ship. I think I might just start spamming the z button.

Apparently on the PC you can pause the game, hit your key, and the command will be executed as soon as you unpause. Although I think that's for the lasers and bubbles - for movement keys you have to spam them as you unpause.

    Thanks! Finally got 15,000!:D

If anyone is having the same problems as me (stuff spawning really close, long waits in between objects, and laggy controls) , I figured out a fix.

Move your savegames from your brand-spankin new lappy that came preloaded with vista on it, to a el-crapo 6 year old desktop running xp, and play space circus catastrophe over there. You'll get 15 grand easily (I didn't lose any shields), the movement is smoother, and your arrow keys will respond at the right times.

I know it's not a dx problem, I had to update dx when I first installed.

    FINALLY I am codename:awesome.

Awww...man! I'm stuck on the stupid Sun.
  • edited November 2008
This game really is the easiest of them all so far (as long as you can figure out how to determine which direction you need to go to dodge the food), and unlike the others I had no need for using the A bomb or pause-press trick.

I believe Johan misinterpreted Strong Bad Fan's statement as meaning he was stuck in the game on Craig's sun base, instead of not being able to get past the Sun level in SSC.

I GET TO BE THE ONE THAT CORRECTS REVERENDTED? No way, I'm getting my own pizza trophy. Without further ado...

    SSC? don't you mean SCC?
    :)

With that, very inciteful, Reverend. Didn't think of looking back at earlier posts when I replied. That could have been what he was talking about. Now that we all understand eachother... I don't think this forum's gonna have much activity until "8 Bit is Enough" comes out.

    BRING IT ON.

I think I've been having similar problems to what Poohead was having. I had to tap the shoot laser or shoot bubble buttons several times before the game would pick up on it, and on the later levels, one tap was all I got before the clown or circus performer hit me. The food was okay, though.

I had similar problems in Hot Bablion Odyssey, actually. A few times my laser would go right through the Nebulons.

It doesn't, you can only use it once.

LordErok, If the food is spawning REALLY close to you in Space Circus Catastrophe, I had the EXACT same problem. Fun-fortunately, the only way I got around the problem was to move my save files to a different computerbox and beat it there. Yeah, Space Circus Catastrophe is probably the worst of the minigames.

I was running Vista x64, Geforce 7150M with the latest DirectX, and this setup had SCC running really buggy. My XP machine ran it just fine after updating DX.

As for your save files, Yes, you can just replace your saves with one of 100%. Send me a PM or an IM (preferably an IM, if I'm sleeping the Da-ding will get my attention) and I can hook you up with some 100%-ers.

I had no problems with Hot Babelian Odyssey, though. That game is fun as hell.
