That being said, this whole pre-release crap proves that people don't love Telltale as much as they think they do.
I think it lies m… moreore in people thinking that Telltale can't do family games and should only stick to mature games. However, prior to Walking Dead, Telltale made lots of family friendly games - several of which still had great narratives that were emotional and resonated with people. Sure, if I were in Telltale's position, I'd have probably picked a franchise that had a more established universe while still being family friendly if I wanted to show the new mainstream audience from Walking Dead onward that Telltale can also make compelling games that aren't about zombies. However, I still think Telltale will do a good job irregardless of whether or not they primarily aim for kids or adults in any of their games.
Modern Telltale fans had similar concerns when Borderlands was announced, as not only did they think Borderlan… [view original content]
Coming from someone who likes the game and is entirely willing to give it a chance, even I think it's kinda weird they are using "Endercon" as an actual plot point in the game. Sure, if Minecraft: Story Mode was going for a more comedic and self-aware narrative, I could see it working in that context, but I don't feel like it works as much in a context like this where they are going for a more serious, fantasy adventure kinda vibe (even if it still remains light hearted for kids). In my personal opinion, I think it would've worked better if they adjusted it to fit the general tone of the narrative, as it currently sticks out from being self-aware while the rest of the game isn't. Maybe I'm just being nit picky, but it kind of distracts from my suspension of disbelief.

Endercon is Story Mode's fictional equivalent to the real life Minecon. Jesse and the other characters attend the fictional Endercon event in the game's universe. They've said in interviews that the fictional Endercon is inspired by real events like Minecon, PAX, etc, but having a parody of conventions doesn't seem to fit with the whole fantasy adventure theme.
It would've worked if Minecraft: Story Mode was a self aware comedy game, but to have it done in this type of story feels weird to me.
oh, so endercon is the name of a "gathering" in the game, it does seem weird to have a convention in a fantasy game setting, but for a moment i imagined it might end with "well that was fun * team chat disconnected * "

Job confirmed at Minecon that that wou… moreldn't happen and that ending would be pretty weird :P

I'll probably wait for a review, but nothing by ign or others like that, they kinda suck
I was thinking Totalbiscuit since he did a pretty good and balanced review for Tales and GoT, but I've got a feeling he has a burning hate for minecraft so he may be bias

Alright let me rephrase I guess. They sound unrealistic and fake not childish. Also, if they've decided there gonna start it off the same as Tales with a narrator i'll be pissed (that should be exclusive to borderlands). Hell maybe they just do the same thing and start the story off in medias res?

To me it looks like the narrator will only show up during the next time and previously on sections of the episode. Besides we've have had narration with Tales from the borderlands with not just Marcus but also Rhys and Fiona giving us some backstory. We'll just have to see how constant it is, but I doubt its throughout the whole episode.

Well, the narration appeard in many other games, not just in Borderlands. For the unrealistic voice acting, maybe it adds more to the cartoon-ish feeling (because kids can play it too and it's MC...).

Not a big fan of the cartoony kid feel. The narration does appear in many other games but im just afraid it will be overused and become lame. Especially if they've created their own Minecraft marcus

totalbiscuit doesn't really like this type of game, he is honest about that, so while his reviews may be fair, he has no passion for this genre so it is probably not the best place to get a review about this type of game.
jim sterling likes this type of game (and is good at reviewing games), but he doesn't like to spoil even one bit of this type of game, so his reviews will probably be really short until the game is complete.

That's fine if you personally don't like it, but not every Telltale game has to be a mature interpersonal drama. Telltale isn't a one trick pony, and they aren't only good for drama titles.

The trailer unfortunately hasn't inspired me with much confidence. I don't know why but it's something about it that puts me off. That being said, I'm gonna be so happy if this proves to be another great entry to Telltale's collection of recent great games.
I like the trailer... And I'm looking forward to the game...
Btw. if there's someone who's talking German: I made a Geman version of the trailer (also includes translated release dates / outro): Minecraft Story Mode Ep. 1 Trailer Deutsch

If Minecraft: Story Mode comes out and it straight up Sucks, I'm still gonna buy all the episodes and play them 100 times
What? Why would you reward a terrible game with your money?
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed many Telltale games and will buy at least the first episode of this game sight-unseen because I've enjoyed all of Telltale's other games. And if the first episode is fun, I'll buy the rest.
"The whole point of a “brand,” from a marketing perspective, is to encourage people to develop an emotional attachment to a product. Companies don’t just want you to stand up and defend them, they depend on it. They do whatever they can to make you feel like your identity is somehow linked to the products you buy, the drinks you consume, the computer you use, and even the toilet paper you wipe your ass with. They need you to feel that attachment because it, above all else, is what keeps you coming back."
I'm basically a huge sucker when it comes to Telltale nowadays. If Minecraft: Story Mode comes out and it straight up Sucks, I'm still gonna… more buy all the episodes and play them 100 times so I absolutely agree with you. That being said, this whole pre-release crap proves that people don't love Telltale as much as they think they do.
Your Profile Picture is amazing btw
Doesn't look interesting to me in the least and based on the Comments and how inactive the Minecraft section of the forum is I'm not the only one. Will be interesting to see the reviews when this comes out and if anybody will jump on the minecraft bandwagon.
What? Why would you reward a terrible game with your money?
There's a lot of reasons why, one of them being I'm a disgusting fanboy and it's too late to talk me out of this decision. Another reason is even if a Telltale game is bad, I personally can still enjoy it. I personally think Walking Dead S2 is a piece of shit sometimes but I've still played it like 10 times, why is that, I don't fuckin know. Also it costs five bucks an episode, which feels like nothing to me when you buy them every couple months.

But this kind of blind loyalty to a company is silly, and reminds me of this article on brand loyalty.

Dude, you guys are ridiculous... Don't take everything so literally. I shared an opinion that lame blocks--- with no history, may not be able to draw me in as much as the other recent games. Also, it's a corporation, not my wife... I don't have to show "respect", or "love it's flaws" to have loved their games. If they make something that's crap now I don't have to be into it. (For example, Lost, seasons 4-6) And this was a forum discussing the trailer-Why I can't share my opinion if I'm hesitant? I hope it's good too, but I am not going to hold my breath.
When you love something, you don't just love the fun and exciting stuff (TWD, TWAU, etc) you like. You love the "flaws" just as much. The on… morees who have actually shown love for Telltale provide some sort of support even if they don't find any interest in one of their products. They say, "Personally, I don't really like Minecraft, but I hope it does well because Telltale."
Plus it's not like they're gonna stop making other stuff after this.
You don't love Telltale. You're looking at its butt when it walks by.
(Not saying you should buy Minecraft: SM but at least show some respect for the company you "love".)

We still don't know the overall tone in the game. I'll admit it's weird but it could work or not. We just don't know that yet.

Well he also never liked Borderlands but he was fair with TFTB.
Such childish voice acting fuck this
What was childish about the voice acting?
None of the voice actors are kids nor sound like kids.
Good point actually. You know any other trustworthy reviewers?
Jim Sterling's pretty cool, and I agree with a lot of his view points:

There are many things that start a story off with a narrator, Telltale's third season of Sam & Max also starts with a narrator.
What makes them sound fake? They sound the same as every other Telltale trailer.

In medias res refers to the Rhys and Fiona parts. It's when you start the story "in the action" and employ flashbacks and non-linear storytelling.

I understand you, but we'll have to wait for the episode to come out and then see how it works.
