A disappointing season

In really wanted to love this game, but it ended up just being disappointing. This is definitely my least favorite Telltale game. The main problem with it is that your choices change nothing. There's not even an illusion of choice. Your choices don't even change the dialogue most of the time. It feels very linear and on rails. Every choice felt like the wrong one because the game just thwarts your plans no matter what you do. I didn't feel like I was making any progress. There were so many plot holes it was ridiculous. Like the teleporting Forrester Greatsword. The ending sucks no matter what you do. There were many choices where you can specifically set a course of action, but that choice gets ignored by the game anyway. Like when you choose to lock the gate and keep Ramsay and his men out. They come in anyway.

I had a lot of minor gripes with the game as well. There's basically no exploration or puzzles. Waiting an entire year for the whole game to come out really sucks. You completely forget everything so if you play it as it comes out it really hurts the experience. I'm not a fan of the blurry oil painting graphics. Some of the combat sequences were frustrating. There's no Steam cloud saves so I lost all my progress when my computer crashed. Playing so many different characters made it a lot harder to connect with any of them.

Spoilers: Immediately losing Asher or Rodrik as soon as Asher gets to Westeros and they meet up really annoyed me. The traitor reveal scene was really lame in my opinion. It was so predictable and uninspired that it fell completely flat. It didn't make much sense to me and I thought it was really out of character. Mira's entire storyline was basically pointless. I was waiting for Tom the coal boy to help me because he kept saying that there were people who would, but instead I just got executed. I was loyal to Margaery the whole time and she still didn't save me. They killed off so many characters by the end that it was worse than the Starks. The entire North Grove storyline came to nothing. They introduced new characters beyond the wall so late into the storyline that they were completely ineffective.

Season 2 was just announced. I really hope they do a better job. The writing needs to be a lot better.

Hmm, would you like to write the next season then Reikopo? You seem like the sort of person who knows how well these stories should be written, please write it for us and I'll look forward to seeing how great it will be!

I'll give you feedback too. :)

  • I'd love to have crack at writing season 2. Even though I criticsed season 1, there were some really good parts. I'm looking forward to seeing the Riverlands being a focus in the next season. I've got some experience with writing. Been working on a TV script for my fiction in The Road universe, and also Tales season 2. :)
