What the hell Telltale?

DLC with Michonne is pointless. Probably you feel the same. Telltale really f*cked it up. It should have been something relevant. There were so many ways to create a good DLC with their characters, for example:
1) Christa's fate after All That Remains
2) Kenny's fate after No Time Left
It's true that 400 days wasn't as good as it should be, but at least it had an impact for S2. Of course I will play Michonne's story, but I wanted something different. What do you think?

  • Mhh. Michonne's awesome! But i understand you, though. It feels like, TTG don't want to work out their characters that much.

  • DLC with Michonne is pointless. Probably you feel the same.

Nope, not at all. I am very much looking forward to this, I'm a huge fan of the comics and can't wait to see how Telltale handles Michonne and to find out what was going on with her during this time. Also, it's no longer a S2 DLC, it's now a standalone series.

  • Both of those things you mentioned oughta be tackled down the line.

If youre planning to play it, you cant think its that pointless.

  • I only want to know what happened to Christa.

  • I wasn't too crazy about it. But who knows, maybe we'll see Christa or Lily in it?

  • Truthfully I'd have preferred them use the three episodes to build up their own original characters instead of someone plot armored

  • We dont even know what Michonne will be about, as far as we know Telltale might include Lily or something.

    Also Michonne is cool beans

  • The michonne series will have nothing to do with Telltale TWD Characters.

  • I never read the comics but since I'm watching the TV show and we all know Michonne very well, I'll definetly play it. I don't even see what's pointless, maybe you're one of the TWD fans who forces Telltale to stop making other games and focus only on TWD with Clementine's story.

  • Except it will take place in the same universe, duuuhhh lol

No, it did NOT. What reward did you get?

) Christa's fate after All That Remains 2) Kenny's fate after No Time Left

those are all generic boring ideas

    DLC with Michonne is pointless.

can't say that until you have played it for all we know we could run into Christa or something (very unlikely but still possible)

The Michonne series will no longer be DLC, but will be its own mini-series that won't require any other games to play.

It's a little bit early to say whether Michonne will fit into Telltale's main seasons. It's possible that someone from the Michonne mini-series will show up as a major character in season three, like Bonnie did from 400 Days. It's also possible that a previous character from Telltale's seasons will show up in the Michonne mini-series (Lilly, Christa, and Molly are all unaccounted for, for example).

I'm personally more excited for Michonne than Season Three, because I'm one of the people that felt burned out on the story by the end of Season Two, as I felt the plot was all over the place, and it wasn't clear what direction they were taking it until the last episode (plus Clementine's character adapting to the harshness of the world this far into the apocolypse seems to have been pushed into season three even though there was a lot of build-up of it by Carver early in the season).

I'm happy that Telltale's going in a new direction for a bit. It will give the series some much needed fresh energy, in my opinion.

Fingers crossed Michonne will run into Christa somehow... or even Lilly.

  • I think it's for the comics fans. I'm not actually that fan but I do watch the TV show where Michonne shows up as well.

It was confirmed it won't be a DLC for Season 2. It will be just a mini-series. I think it's worth playing it to see the events of Michonne when she was missing in some parts of the comics.

Wait, is it confirmed that Clementine won't cameo in the Michonne DLC? I'm pretty sure the comic and game series are in the same universe. ON the other hand, how will timing go? How old would clementine be during the time period the Michonne dlc will be set in? I'm interested to see if this spin-off will act as an interquel between season's 2 and 3, it will be set during season's 1 or 2 or if it'll have no connection whatsoever.

Well I'm almost not in it.

At the point in the comics where Michonne leaves the whole group are at the Alexandria safe zone which is located in Virginia, as far as location goes it could be possible for Clementine and other characters to be close to Ricks group but Telltale stated that the mini series is going to be a separate story so it's unlikely that Michonne will meet any past characters from seasons 1 & 2 epically major ones.

Even though some people are criticizing Telltale for straying away from their own original characters this time around, I imagine it will actually benefit them in a few ways. Last we heard during E3 2015, Telltale was trying to figure out Season 3's story. Even if they are (probably) much further along now into Season 3's story being worked out, they wanted to release something during the wait to keep people occupied (like how 400 Days was to keep people occupied during the wait for Season 2).

Back during when the Michonne series was conceptualized, Season 3 was probably very early into the works, so choosing to focus on a different group of characters that, this time, were pre-established gave Telltale more leeway in choosing how to plan out Season 3's story without having to worry about crossing over in ways that would conflict with where they wanted to take Season 3, as well as giving them the freedom to focus on a different time and location from Season 3. With Michonne focusing on it's own group of characters, they don't have to commit as early to setting story details in stone, which gives Season 3 more time in the oven.

I don't think it's so much that they wanted to focus on Michonne in particular, but rather they wanted to avoid writing themselves into any corner that would conflict with Season 3 or force their hand into committing to certain plot elements of Season 3 earlier than they wanted to, is basically what I'm saying.

Why would Telltale Games choose something so seemingly insignificant and that limits them in terms of storytelling (defined time period, characters, beginning and end already made)?

That's what they did for Wolf Among Us and Game of Thrones, though. Wolf Among Us' storyline with Ichabod Crane was based off of a very vague reference in an issue to Ichabox Crane being the former mayor of Fabletown. Likewise, House Forrestor was conceptualized from a line in one of the books from the book series Game of Thrones is based off of.

In Michonne's case, from what I hear, she was gone for quite some time in the comics, so I imagine it was a good way for Telltale and Skybound to work together on making a story with established characters that did not conflict with canon.

  • When Michonne was being conceptualized, they were probably still much earlier into planning out Season 3's story, so Michonne probably gave them more freedom to explore the Walking Dead universe without cornering themselves into rushing areas of Season 3's story. This game is similar to 400 Days, in that it's supposed to keep Walking Dead on people's radar prior to Season 3 - expect, this time, Telltale is letting Season 3 spend more time in the oven instead of making it come out super fast like Season 2 did after Season 1.

  • They had their ups and downs adapting the pre-existing story and characters of GoT, but did a good job with Crane, no doubt because his vague references in the comics gave them much more creative leeway. I can only hope Michonne's story will have at least some minor impact in Season 3, and Clem hasn't met any comic original characters since Season 1, I wonder if she even still remembers poor Glen...

Anyway the more I think about it, this DLC isn't much to fuss about, honestly getting to play Michonne within the comic canon continuity is already quite an interesting opportunity, and we already had a 400 Days DLC before S2 so it makes sense to have another DLC before S3, except Telltale only did a mediocre job with 400 Days (there is literally no reason to care about any of those one-off characters) so at least now they have an official character to work with, someone whose popular with fans worldwide, so this is a better option than another original DLC like 400 Days.

In fact Telltale should develop original characters only for the main series, while the DLCs should be like an early Christmas present for fans with pre-established content that everyone already likes.
