Why did Telltale choose Michonne?
I've not read the comics so I don't know Michonne but from what I've heard the Michonne DLC fills in a time period where she left the series for a while. Why would Telltale Games choose something so seemingly insignificant and that limits them in terms of storytelling (defined time period, characters, beginning and end already made)?
Maybe this'll help bring focus to the game but I was just curious.

Even though some people are criticizing Telltale for straying away from their own original characters this time around, I imagine it will actually benefit them in a few ways. Last we heard during E3 2015, Telltale was trying to figure out Season 3's story. Even if they are (probably) much further along now into Season 3's story being worked out, they wanted to release something during the wait to keep people occupied (like how 400 Days was to keep people occupied during the wait for Season 2).
Back during when the Michonne series was conceptualized, Season 3 was probably very early into the works, so choosing to focus on a different group of characters that, this time, were pre-established gave Telltale more leeway in choosing how to plan out Season 3's story without having to worry about crossing over in ways that would conflict with where they wanted to take Season 3, as well as giving them the freedom to focus on a different time and location from Season 3. With Michonne focusing on it's own group of characters, they don't have to commit as early to setting story details in stone, which gives Season 3 more time in the oven.
I don't think it's so much that they wanted to focus on Michonne in particular, but rather they wanted to avoid writing themselves into any corner that would conflict with Season 3 or force their hand into committing to certain plot elements of Season 3 earlier than they wanted to, is basically what I'm saying.
That's what they did for Wolf Among Us and Game of Thrones, though. Wolf Among Us' storyline with Ichabod Crane was based off of a very vague reference in an issue to Ichabox Crane being the former mayor of Fabletown. Likewise, House Forrestor was conceptualized from a line in one of the books from the book series Game of Thrones is based off of.
In Michonne's case, from what I hear, she was gone for quite some time in the comics, so I imagine it was a good way for Telltale and Skybound to work together on making a story with established characters that did not conflict with canon.
She's a very dynamic character with a lot of fighting skill and Im guessing they can squeeze in a lot of adventure in that time gap. Last time she was seen was on a pirate ship, I believe. She's a popular character in the comics and show so it makes sense to me.
Because 3 females that are bad-asses in this game weren't enough for some reason.
idk honestly jk
Is Michonne just to tide us over till S3 then? I'm getting the idea that Michonne will stay far away from Telltale's cast.
Telltale also worked with Michonne because they say they like the character and they think the opportunity to work with comic characters is interesting. So, that's not the entire reason, but it is one of the reasons - again, just like how 400 Days was to help Walking Dead fans wait for Season 2, and to subtly hint at plot elements in Season 2.
They used it for money reasons
Apparently the problem is that they are using machine doc as a tool for some reason. They want to throw things at people to show they can develop anything needless or not. Nobody will buy this.
Do you wanna know why they delayed game of thrones episode 6
So they can use minecraft story mode as a shield for them to just chill and have fun for unknown reasons
Wow, Mr. Negative
The irony of your username...
don't. just don't.
It is not being negative, it's being realistic, telltale is throwing another "Multiple teams" garbage at us again
They have over 320+ people hired, and Telltale's games are much, much smaller than a typical retail game. I'm pretty sure saying they have multiple teams isn't as absurd as it evidently sounds to you. Telltale has had weeks last year where they would release an episode from a series one week, and then release an episode from another series only a week or two later. Surely you aren't suggesting they did that by having people switch from working on a Borderlands episode to a Thrones episode (or vice versa) and make a whole episode in one week without using multiple teams?
EDIT:
[Episode releases 1 week apart]
Borderlands Episode 1 - Nov 25 2014
Game of Thrones Episode 1 - December 2 2014
Borderlands Episode 2 - March 17 2015
Thrones Episode 3 - March 24 2015
Minecraft Episode 1 - October 13
Borderlands Episode 5 - October 20
Minecraft Episode 2 - October 27
Thrones Episode 6 - November 17
Minecraft Episode 3 - November 24
Who knows maybe because she's liked by a lot of fans. Tbh I'm glad they picked her out of all the characters.
Expect crap like minecraft story mode and Twd minchoone for a long time, they should have just focused on s3 as a huge game.
They still are focusing on making Walking Dead: Season 3 a huge game. Season 2 ended in August 2014. It is January 2016 and we don't have any information on Season 3 outside of it being bigger than previous games. If it is spending this much time in the oven, I'm sure they are putting that time to good use instead of trying to get it out quickly like they did with Season 2 after Season 1.
That doesn't really make sense. Games like Tales from the Borderlands or Game of Thrones were in the works long before their newer titles like Michonne or Minecraft. It sounds you are just honing in on games you don't like as being the reason the games you do like took a while to release.
I think the other reason to that they picked Michone for the DLC is to draw in fans from the comics and fans that watch the tv show, seeing that she is a highly recognized character. they did this with the TWD Survival Instincts with Dixion, which sold quite well.
Brand recognition is the game here.
I know Michonne series will be a great one
The other possible options were Negan (an antagonist), Jesus (boring), Ezekiel (character's done) and Dwight (not famous enough), so that's why they ended up with Michonne.
And, well, Michonne is cool.
People are wondering where was she when she didn't appear in the comics for a while. Besides... I'm pretty sure she's liked in the Comic (and TV Series) so this is a good opportunity to fill in on Michonne's whereabouts.
I don't even like game of thrones that much. I can't believe you guys are so oblivious to everything that is going on. Game of thrones episode 6 was apparently really really bad. They should develope games before others. Get the ones you fucking have out of the way so you can focus on the newer ones after the ones you finish
Agreed.
...and hey...hey! >.>
Nice avatar. <.<
XD
Apparently? You didnt play it?
people have been asking for a character like michonne for the walking dead protagonist for some time, by that i mean people have been asking for a character who could be brutal, selfish, spiteful and aggressive in some situations they encounter or be kind, caring, loyal and smart in other situations, and either choice would fit the character, and michonne is already established as being able to be all of that.
You didn't have to be rude.
Everyone has a type. She wants to date black Santa Claus, thats on her, lol
Will have to look at both of your usernames for more than one second to see who you are from now on.
Unless sialark wears sunglasses again.
It's just a mini-series, a bit more elaborated 400 Days.
They probably want to set up Season 3 with this ~ ^^
Babe, I never take my sunglasses off. XD
...
:stubs toe in dark room:
Okay, okay, I'm taking them off!
Hehe. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Im still shipping Richonne, at least as far as the tv show is concerned, so hopefully they wont just make her date black guys only.
That might be one of the most disturbing things I've seen on the internet.
Well done.
Because she has that katana.
Well, I dont know if you read the comics but I have an idea of what's coming. I like the characters though. It cant just be the core group, thats not realistic. We need to meet other survivors. It can be tough to give them all due attention though.
Graphical Interchanged Format wars eh?
Nah man, nah. It's love, not war. Chillaaaax.
xp
$$$
Except it's a stand alone from season 2 and 3
Except she doesn't have the katana at that time, she gave it to Ezekiel, she uses a machete in the upcoming game. :P
Because Michonne is motherfuckin badass?! Anyway, I'd love a game about beginning of Negan / Governor, or about Dwight.
Dwight? That guy from the Office? Not far into the comics so...
Crap , I got my sword types mixed up.
Thanks for the correction.
