    Never knew his surname was actually Clutterbuck, and I've seen him in the Afterlife TV series back in 2005-6.

    Agent told him to change his name as it sounded like a hobbits name. Guessing that was back before he got into proper tv shows

    it is not uncommon for actors to change their names. For example, John Wayne was originally known as Marion Morrison.

    Tim Allen, was born as Timothy Allen Dick.

    Alan Alda was born as Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo. His father was of Italian descent and his mother was of Irish ancestry. His adopted surname, "Alda," is a portmanteau of ALphonso and D'Abruzzo.

    Charlton Heston was born John Charles Carter. When Heston was 10 years old, his parents divorced. Shortly thereafter, his mother married Chester Heston. His stage name Charlton Heston is drawn from his mother's maiden surname (Charlton) and his stepfather's surname (Heston), and was used for his first film, an adaptation of Ibsen's Peer Gynt (1941).
