I haven't watched enough to have a top 5. Most of the characters I didn't really like and was glad they died. One I was sad about was T-Dog and another was Merle. Merle in particular they killed him off just as he was showing some growth it was kind of annoying.
This is a good topic why isn't anyone replying?
I don't know. It's weird...
Did I seriously make this thread for no reason?
I can't even remember how all of them died so I can't really reply :P
5th: Amy
4th: Lori
3rd: Denise
2nd: Beth
1st: Andrea
Oh okay :P
This is a good thread that needs more attention, so allow me to fill it with too much text.
5th Jim
This may seem like an odd choice. Jim was a character who only lasted for the first few episodes of S1, and as such we as the audience didn't have a lot of time to make a connection. But when I think about affecting deaths in TWD, I'll always think of Jim. His bite was shallow, the wound itself not fatal on its own, leaving him to slowly succumb to the infection and fever. It was a haunting, and sad process to bear witness to. But what always got me was the scene where, in a moment of clarity, he asks Rick to leave him behind, knowing that he can't make it any farther. Insisting that it was his decision, not Rick's failure. That last image of him slumped over against the tree, as the group drives away is one of the many moments in show that has stayed with me for years after the fact.
4th Tyreese
Say what you will about the changes made to Tyreese from comic to show, but his death was one of the most beautifully implemented. Strange to use the word beautiful to describe a death scene, but there it is. The entire episode has a surreal quality to it, and sadly, Tyreese got more character development in his last moments than in the rest of the show combined. The scene transitions from Tyreese's hallucinations to what was happening for real, were particularly well done. His passionate exclamations that people like him could survive had me hoping that he would make it, although I still wasn't surprised when he didn't.
3rd Shane
I'll go ahead an preface this by saying that Shane is one of my favs. Didn't care much for him in the comic, but the show did some wonderful things with his character, and his relationship with Rick, which served to make his inevitable end all the more tragic. The build up to his death at Rick's hands was incredible, despite the way the overall plot of S2 tended to drag a bit. That the show took extra steps to show us that Rick and Shane were as close as brothers really added weight to a scene that felt a bit rushed in the comic, to be honest. The look of disbelief on Shane's face when he realizes that Rick has stabbed him was a particularly nice touch.
2nd Hershel
Of all the deaths so far, Hershel hurt the most. Such a brutal, unnecessary death for such a compassionate character. Till the very end, he was trying to work things about peacefully with the Governor. And showing pride that Rick was attempting to do the same. He was smiling at Rick when the sword came down. It would've been a lot less horrible is one strike was all it took, but the real horror came after. As he tried to crawl away while bleeding out, only for the Governor to grab him, hold him down, and hack away at his neck until his head came off. All with a cold, detached expression on his face. A fantastically shot scene.
1st Lori
I'll preface this one by saying that Lori has never been a character I particularly liked. However, it is a testament to some truly amazing acting skills that Lori's death is the only one that can consistently make me tear up. I'm not much of a crier, and I usually don't. But I can't handle Lori's last speech to Carl. The emotional weight of the moment comes from the knowledge that Lori's relationship with her husband and son has been rocky and distant for months now. And none of them seemed to know how to bridge the gap between each other. And then suddenly, it was too late for that. All Lori could do was let her son know that she loved him, and whisper a final goodbye to Rick, wherever he might have been at that moment.
A big theme on the show seems to be killing off the best characters right as they show development and keeping annoying characters alive.
Yup, if you see a character getting more development that means they're gonna die.
Beth was so tupid, her death was like, nothing. They just did the hospital arco to kill Beth. She is a bad character.
I am glad Beth died. I am not glad Andrea died, for example.
Lets get it going again, mate.
Beth - Wow, she did not deserve to go. Never been so sad over a character in twd like i did for Beth. Felt Daryl and the groups pain. Plus seeing Emily cry on Talking Dead was sooo sad.
Hershel - Still hurts. Great character.
Tyresse - Sad way to see an awesome character go.
Sophia - Damn it Rick! Why'd you leave her. Wish she was still alive, just so there was another kid. And the fact she's still alive in the comic.
Lori - I never really cared for her. Never really did in the comic. But the moment is sad, seeing how it affects Carl & Rick.
Honerable Mentions: T-Dog, Merle, Mika, Shane, Dale.
5} Andrea
4}T-Dog
3}Tyresse
2} Hershel
1}Beth
Tyresse. An actual proper goodbye to a beloved character.
Shane. Not really sad boo hoo, but a shame he had to go. Defenitly one of the main reasons why the story never got stale during the farm arc.
Merryl. A main cast member loses a brother. I have a bro and even though an asshole, it would suck to lose him.
Lori. Carl watching his Mom die was very heart breaking.
Sophia. The little girl that gave this group purpose dies and it symbolizes that everyone is fucked.
I think the exact opposite. I always found Andrea annoying. Beth it wasn't until the episode with Daryl that she became one of my favourite characters and then at the hospital just further confirmed it. I would have much rather they killed off Maggie instead of Beth.
I forgot about Mika. That was sad and disturbing. Mika would have been a great character to have on the show long term.
Andrea was supose to be one of the best characters, she was being developed. However Gleen Mazzara fucked her. Now Gimple is a better showrunner and respect the comics... And Maggie has a story to tell, she will be a leader.
I don't really have a problem with either.
I loved both Beth and Andrea, no matter what people think.
Ikr? I hate Lizzie.
I dunno, I cant remember really. I havnt felt sad about a death since hershel I think, plus I saw that one coming so it wasnt that bad, Everyone after that.... eh, didnt care too much.
RIP All of them
EDIT: Except for Lori.
RIP All of them
Me too and I thought it was pretty obvious that Lizzie was showing sociopath behaviour and going to do something terrible like that, but no one else seemed to notice.
Mika also seemed like a perfect character for the show to develop since she killed walkers fine but didn't want to kill anything else even people that would do her harm, but also still being a kid and being able to goof off in a terrible situation such as pretending to be a robot from Terminus.
Lizzie reminded me of Ben from the comics. They were both little psychos that loved killing people so that they could become walkers.
Do you read the comics? Cause over there Andrea is amazing
I love both versions of Andrea LOL. I love comic Andrea more, but I have zero probles with TV Andrea.
Dale's death even to this day is still the saddest for me, im surprised not many have mentioned his death in their top 5. I shed tears because it was so unexpected and seeing almost every character crying their eyes out, Rick looking very upset not bringing himself to shoot him. Such a brilliant, emotional ending. Something i feel has badly been lacking in the show lately.
