I actually made a bit of both. I usually made smart choices when I was playing as Mira, and I held back when I was Rodrik (Until episode five.) I made the most badass choices as Asher though. I also made dumb choices when I was Ethan (except choosing Royland as sentinel, I felt like that was a good one.)
Gared was a mixture of both. (More badass ones than smart)
I guess I made badass-ish choices like Maiming Gryff, Standing Up to Gryff, letting Beskha kill her master, trying to stab Ramsay, killing Duncan, killing Damien.

Does that count?
EDIT- Oh, and making Britt suffer
I went more for the badass ones, because I knew they wouldn't matter in the long run and they were usually pretty satisfying. Especially standing up to Gryff, such a great scene.
I did a weird mix, I starved the Whitehills, kissed the ring, stood up to Gryff, said I didn't want peace with Gwyn, and kind of flip flopped between listening to Duncan and listening to Royland.
For Asher I saved Beskha, didn't let her kill her master, tried to be nice with Daenerys, and tried being a badass with the pit fighters.
For Mira I tried to be as loyal to Margaery as possible, which I regret cause you get dumpstered by her anyway.
And for Gared I went a nice guy route, befriended Finn and Cotter. Except with the soldier in Ep 1 and Britt. Killed those 2 fuckers, made Britt suffer too. Hate that asshole.

I tried to work towards making smart and diplomatic choices where I could, for the most part.

I thought you spared Duncan. But yes, it does count.
From Episode 1-3, I mostly made smart-ish choices. Then episode 4 and onward, I started picking more badass choices.
I mixed in all. Like with Rodrik I always tried to be diplomatic and smart, with Mira I was cunning, and with Asher, I only made badass choices.
What about Gared and Ethan?
Gared- mostly badass choices. Ethan- smart and diplomatic
Hmm, alright then.
I went more for towards the badass choices aka "reckless" choices, fuck diplomacy, it's war time.
#FuckDiplomacy
I mostly picked badass, but picked smart on a couple of big ones too.
(?) Duncan Tuttle will remember that
At first I played with smart choices, but later they became more badas.

I went a third route- dumbass.

Well, kinda both. I mean, I did badass choices and also smart choices.
But man, the badass choices were so satisfying.
And I also had Duncan as my sentinel, which is odd I guess.
