So why didn't Mira just.....[Spoilers]

I know this series concluded awhile back, but I've just gotten around to completing the entire thing and one thing in particular confuses me. If, at the end, you chose to marry Morgryn and sacrifice Tom the scene transitions to Tom's execution with the charge of murdering the Lannister guard read aloud and then the call for bearing witness. Morgryn states that you're his betrothed, after which you nod to indicate Tom is guilty, and then he dies, and Morgryn walks away telling you to follow. What I found odd was, why didn't Mira just end the betrothal then and there? The charges against her had been cleaned up, the Lannister guards death was a closed case, it stands to reason with the rumors Margaery was concerned about would certainly die down, and Mira would be a respectable Lady again. Why not tell Margaery of Morgryn's plan to extort her into marriage in hopes of acquiring Ironrath? That would almost certainly have afforded her some understanding and protection. I can't understand why Mira, accused of nothing, bound by nothing, would willingly walk away with Morgryn after Tom's death. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I can't figure out what. She's a respectable lady from a respectable, if out of favor, house, and he's just a merchant, I can't imagine he could force her to marry him with (now) zero leverage. It's a disappointing and limiting end to the most intriguing character in the series, and tedious to know I'll have to endure her being brutalized for perhaps the length of season 2 when it seemed so incredibly avoidable in the finale of season 1. Any thoughts? Have I missed something?

  • He could still threatens her life in anyway I guess. He kept her close so she couldn't try to run away.

  • Nothing good comes from breaking a deal. And Mira wouldn't exactly be a respectable lady if she backed out of a betrothal. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think you can just back out of a betrohal, unless you're Joffery who just did whatever the hell he wanted.

  • I suppose Game of Thrones has proven that deal breaking is usually a bad move for the breaker, but in this case the deal was extorted, and I think losing respectable status might be preferable to being locked up and used to produce heirs for the rest of her life. Frankly I'm not even sure this "betrothal" is legal, with no witnesses and without consulting either Margaery or the lord of House Forrester. It just seemed like Morgryn put himself is such a stupid position, and instead of taking advantage she acquiesced to it. She should have seen her own value, told Margaery that Morgryn planned to use her for her ancestral home (a more than believable story), and disgraced him, he's only an unlanded merchant. I understand where you're coming from, just seems the consequences of action seemed to vastly outweigh the price of inaction in this case.

  • Because he can and will turn you in to get executed.

If you plan to break a deal, make sure you're safe first.

Because if you broke up the marriage you get executed too.

  • Because Mira is stupid, it doesn't matter if you played her as a brave, cunning and manipulative girl, she is always going to be naive.

  • This seems to be the case. Such a disappointment, puts me off of season 2 a good deal.
