I have a theory on him actually. He could be like Jon Doe from that movie Se7en. He realized that every person on the planet commits sins of some sort. After a while he realized all humans were sins in themselves and developed a misanthrope hatred for humans seeing them as a key point in humanities downfall and killing them

If he doesn't become an antagonist in season 3 (even though he should've been the main antagonist in season 2!!!) then idk what stereotypical overly aggressive white male they will choose next.
