What is your opinion of Morgan?
So I'm currently watching season 5 on Netflix. And in the episode that I'm watching, Morgan has just saved Daryl and Aaron from being trapped by walkers.
And I was just wondering, what is your opinion of Morgan? the first time we met Morgan he was with his son, he just lost his wife, and him and Rick are going to stay in touch over the walkie-talkie.
The next time we see Morgan, he has booby-trapped the small town that Rick, Carl and Michonne come into scrounging for supplies. And he is also clearly suffering from a nervous breakdown, which is brought on by losing his son.
Rick tries to bring him back with them to the prison, but he declines, if memory serves me correctly.
In season five, and season 6 more so, we see that Morgan has become I'd almost have to describe it as a religious type of person. He believes that people can be redeemed, through the actions that they take, and he has a very strong and aversion to killing.
Almost kinda reminds me a little bit of a Buddhist monk. But the way he speaks about people being redeemed reminds me more of a Christian Reverend.
And he definitely has an affect on the group, for Carol finally experiences an attack of conscience for all the things she's done, and tries to leave the group so as not to have to kill anymore, and nearly gets killed herself. Luckly for her, Morgan later shows up to save her.
I'm still formulating my opinion of Morgan, in all honesty.
I have to admire Morgan's optimistic view on people, his belief that people can change and can redeem themselves. it's basically the same view that one's like Dale, Hershel, and even Rick - during his time at the prison - had.
They believed that despite the bad things people have done, but there was always a chance that they could change.
Now granted Rick has become much more of a pragmatic individual, and I think that Morgan's idealistic view of things, provides a very interesting dynamic within the group.
Do I think Morgan is a weak individual, and possibly an unintentional threat to the group? No! To recover from his breakdown as he did, requires a lot of internal strength.
And I think his still wanting to hold on to an idealistic view of things, is what will keep the group from becoming like The Governor, like Joe and his gang, and like Negan.
I think their is a lot of strength in Morgan, though it's not as quickly seen, as it is in ones like Rick.
What do you think?
