Who Did You Forgive in the Michonne Miniseries?

Greetings, person reading!

This thread has been inspired in zombiebonnie's thread, "who did you forgive," which asks us about whether we forgave certain actions of six characters.

I believe that it would be a good idea to write the Michonne edition of this discussion, to know what everyone thinks about some of the characters in the miniseries.

Samantha a.k.a. Sam

  • Did you forgive Samantha for lying about the whereabouts of the bag of guns and ammunition that she stole from Monroe?

  • Did you forgive her for killing Zachary after her brother was killed by him?

Norma

  • Did you forgive Norma for attempting to kill Michonne after her brother was killed?

  • Did you forgive her for shooting Zachary after the latter attacked her with a tree branch?

Randall

  • Did you forgive Randall for murdering the ferry scavengers against Norma's will?

Zachary

  • Did you forgive Zachary for killing Greg?

Gabby and Jonas

  • Did you forgive Gabby for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter set her home on fire and left her to fend for herself with the surviving colonists?

  • Did you forgive Jonas for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter was involved in the death of his boyfriend and left him tied and gagged in a burning ship?

Paige

  • Did you forgive Paige for being angered at Samantha for taking the time to bury her father while the remaining colonists were on their way?

  • Did you forgive her for deciding to leave John's house before Norma's arrival?

    1. Nope
    2. Never happened in my playthrough
    3. Well, I technically killed him, so it was understandable.
    4. Yes, it was self-defense.
    5. Hell no.
    6. Yes.
    7. Nope.
    8. Never happened, but if it did, I would get it.
    9. Nothing to be mad at.
    10. Same answer as above.
  • Huh, seems like threads are being double posted as well.

  • Yes, maybe, yes, maybe, no, maybe, idk, maybe, yes, yes.

  • That was on me.

    This is secretly a bump.

Huh, seems like threads are being double posted as well.

    1. No
    2. That didn't happen to me
    3. Well, I did kill her brother so I understand why she wanted to kill me
    4. Self-defense so yeah
    5. Hell no
    6. Hell no
    7. Jonas didn't do that in my game but if he did, I would understand
    8. I don't know, I guess so
    9. I guess
  • Did you forgive Samantha for lying about the whereabouts of the bag of guns and ammunition that she stole from Monroe?

Hm, yes, I guess? She did start all of this by stealing the supplies in the first place though..

Did you forgive her for killing Zachary after her brother was killed by him?

    Never happened in my playthroughs.

Did you forgive Norma for attempting to kill Michonne after her brother was killed?

    Yes, it was understandable!

Did you forgive her for shooting Zachary after the latter attacked her with a tree branch?

    Nope; I really liked Zachary.

Did you forgive Randall for murdering the ferry scavengers against Norma's will?

No, Randall was godawful through the entire miniseries. (Character wise, although I did like his personality in episode 1-2.)

Did you forgive Zachary for killing Greg?

Yes, he was kinda pressured into doing it.

Did you forgive Gabby for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter set her home on fire and left her to fend for herself with the surviving colonists?
Did you forgive Jonas for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter was involved in the death of his boyfriend and left him tied and gagged in a burning ship?

Yep, I forgave both of them!

Did you forgive Paige for being angered at Samantha for taking the time to bury her father while the remaining colonists were on their way?

Um, yes? I was never really angry at her in the first place; what she wanted to do makes sense. Although, I've always helped Samantha in that scene.

Did you forgive her for deciding to leave John's house before Norma's arrival?

    Yes.

Did you forgive Samantha for lying about the whereabouts of the bag of guns and ammunition that she stole from Monroe?

Yes. She was looking out for herself just as any other person would. I also partially forgive her for stealing the supplies in the first place. It had destructive effects, sure, but she was only looking out for her family. It doesn't make stealing any less wrong, tho.

Did you forgive her for killing Zachary after her brother was killed by him?

It didn't happen in my playthrough, but if it had, my Michonne would be just as guilty for just standing there and even encouraging her to do so. Perhaps I could partially forgive Sam because she had just lost her brother, but I could never forgive Michonne for just watching while completely emotionally stable.
In my playthrough I forgave Sam for wanting to kill him since she clearly regretted it afterwards.

Did you forgive Norma for attempting to kill Michonne after her brother was killed?

Yes, I pitty the poor woman. Still can't forgive my Michonne for killing Randall : (

Did you forgive her for shooting Zachary after the latter attacked her with a tree branch?

Yes. Damn, Norma, that was cold and unecessary but I understand that she was not in her best state of mind after loosing both her community and her brother. It can even be considered my fault for killing Randall in the first place.

Did you forgive Randall for murdering the ferry scavengers against Norma's will?

Hard one. Killing them probably prevented the loss of some Monroe residents (since they were planning to attack Monroe, I believe?) but just go there and kill them all, including the children...? He should've done what Norma told him too. Norma was smart and probably had a better way to deal with the scavengers. Randall (probably) indirectly saved lives by killing all the scavengers, so I'd say I partially forgive him.

Did you forgive Zachary for killing Greg?

Zach intended to shoot Sam in the shoulder, I believe? Greg only ended up dead because he put himself in the way of the bullet. Zachary had no intentions of killing anyone (this sounds familiar!) so I forgive him.
Do I forgive him for wanting to shoot Sam in the shoulder? Partially. They weren't cooperating and Randall was pushing him to the edge. Many good people would've done the same.

Did you forgive Jonas for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter was involved in the death of his boyfriend and left him tied and gagged in a burning ship?

Thankfully didn't happen in my playthrough, but if it had, hell to the no! I understand his anger, I do, but murdering someone over another person's actions is just immoral and wrong, he had no justification and I think doing something like this is highly damnable.
    Same goes for Gabby.

Did you forgive Paige for being angered at Samantha for taking the time to bury her father while the remaining colonists were on their way?

I guess she could've been a little more comprehensive? But it's not something that huge that I'd hold against someone really. I also would never despise someone just for trying to do the rational thing.

Did you forgive her for deciding to leave John's house before Norma's arrival?

Yes and no, mixed feelings about this one.

Will you also be posting your thoughts on these people's actions, @BetterToSleep?

Did you forgive Samantha for lying about the whereabouts of the bag of guns and ammunition that she stole from Monroe?

Not really. If she didn't steal from them, none of this would've ever happened in the first place.

Did you forgive her for killing Zachary after her brother was killed by him?

Didn't happen in my playthrough. Although it was understandable why she had a vendetta against him.

Did you forgive Norma for attempting to kill Michonne after her brother was killed?

Well her brother was kinda killed. So I think that speaks for itself.

Did you forgive her for shooting Zachary after the latter attacked her with a tree branch?

No. I liked Zachary despite his lack of character development.

Did you forgive Randall for murdering the ferry scavengers against Norma's will?

No. Randall was an asshole from beginning to end. The only reason I didn't kill him in the garage was because I could easily use him as a bargaining chip for Norma.

Did you forgive Gabby for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter set her home on fire and left her to fend for herself with the surviving colonists?

No. The deal was going fine until she decided to give her "input."

Did you forgive Jonas for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter was involved in the death of his boyfriend and left him tied and gagged in a burning ship?

Didn't happen in my playthrough. But Jonas had every right to be upset at me since I would've let his boyfriend die.

Did you forgive Zachary for killing Greg?

Yes because he was being pressured by Randall into doing it. Sam had every right to be pissed, but he didn't deserve to die because of it.

Did you forgive Paige for being angered at Samantha for taking the time to bury her father while the remaining colonists were on their way?

Kinda like what Autistic Gamer said, there was nothing really to be mad about.

Did you forgive her for deciding to leave John's house before Norma's arrival?

I don't even remember this ever happening. If it did, that's kind of a dick move, Paige.

    1. Yes
    2. Didnt happen in mine
    3. Yes, it made sense for her to be angry
    4. Hell no, I really liked Zachary, I got so mad when she did that.
    5. No, but I didn't kill him at the end of episode 2
    6. Yes, it seemed like a Nick/Matthew situation to me.
    7. I never really thought about that, but it was understandable for her to be mad.
    8. It didn't happen in my playthrough, but that also would have been understandable.
    9. Yes
    10. Yes

    Nvm

I did forgived about pete criticizing me for killing people at monroe and for killing randall.

  • Did you forgive Samantha for lying about the whereabouts of the bag of guns and ammunition that she stole from Monroe?

I understand why she would want to steal from Monroe. Her family was in a desperate lack of supplies, and, as Deltino said on a another thread, she was under the impression that the colonists were a bunch of pirates who murdered her trading partners to take their supplies. Theft appears justified from her perspective. Besides, she only actually stole the supplies that belonged to her allies, so that is one more reason to thing that going to Monroe is a good idea. You could say I forgave her for the theft.

I do not forgive her for keeping quiet about the location of the bag, although I understand that being truthful would've compromised the safety of her father, Paige, and her brothers. However, if she had told the truth, Randall most likely wouldn't have urged Zachary to do something and Greg wouldn't have been shot. I do not hold only her responsible, though. That said, she didn't reveal to Michonne that she indeed had the bag of guns until it was convenient for her, in "What We Deserve."

Did you forgive her for killing Zachary after her brother was killed by him?

I do forgive her. I still hold that it was immoral, but I would want the killer of my sibling dead if I had the chance to take matters on my hands. She was being guided by emotions.

Did you forgive Norma for attempting to kill Michonne after her brother was killed?

I do forgive her. I still hold that it would be immoral, but I would've wanted the killer of my sibling dead if I had the chance to take matters on my hands. She was being guided by emotions.

    Notice a parallel?

Did you forgive her for shooting Zachary after the latter attacked her with a tree branch?

Completely. At that point her grief had turned into anger, and—understandably—being attacked by one of your last trustworthy acquiantances is the last thing that she needed.

I value what Zachary was trying to do, but you cannot say that it wasn't foolish.

Did you forgive Randall for murdering the ferry scavengers against Norma's will?

I kind of do, to be honest. If everything that was hinted is indeed true, then the scavengers planned to kill the colonists and take over Monroe, and although he overrode what the leader said, he rid the colony of a threat. It is immoral, but it is understandable.

And I have a hard time believing that the teenagers lined up and killed were not involved in the murder of the original ferry inhabitants. The girl in her father's arms is what's keeping me from forgiving Randall.

Did you forgive Zachary for killing Greg?

    I am on the fence.

Even though others have said that he was attempting to shoot Samantha in the shoulder, that is still impractical if you want to get information. I am awry of his overall intention in that scene. It is important to note that, if he isn't punched by Michonne when he storms into the room, Zachary will quickly reach for his gun and aim at Michonne before Samantha pushes him. I posted this in the details thread with pictorial proof, so if somebody wants to see it, let me know and I will look for it.

Did you forgive Gabby for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter set her home on fire and left her to fend for herself with the surviving colonists?

I understand her rage, and I forgive her. I believe that other scenes suggested that Gabby had some beef with Norma and Randall, and this just reinforces it. I would be angered as fuck if the leader of my crew wanted to trade her brother for three members of the group that destroyed my home and also either pushed me onto the water to drown, or fired a flare at me.

Not to say that it was immoral, though.

Did you forgive Jonas for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter was involved in the death of his boyfriend and left him tied and gagged in a burning ship?

Same. I understand his rage and I forgive him.

Did you forgive Paige for being angered at Samantha for taking the time to bury her father while the remaining colonists were on their way?

I forgive her, although I disagree with her, partly. It would've been more efficient to help Samantha with the burial to finish faster.

Did you forgive her for deciding to leave John's house before Norma's arrival?

I do not, albeit she does stay if Michonne guilt-trips her.

  • Will you also be posting your thoughts on these people's actions, @BetterToSleep?

    You bet I did!

Did you forgive Samantha for lying about the whereabouts of the bag of guns and ammunition that she stole from Monroe? Yes. She was

  • Yes, yes, yes, no, no, yes, yes, Team Paige all the way (so yes and yes)

  • I agreed with Paige 100% so there's nothing to forgive. Don't really have an opinion on the rest.

  • I can forgive Norma and Randall not really. Sam... nah.

  • I dont really consider it my place to forgive what people do to others, im not really forgiving them for anything. I can let go what someone does to someone else I suppose. Anyway i'll stick to stuff done to my character

Did you forgive Samantha for lying about the whereabouts of the bag of guns and ammunition that she stole from Monroe?

I forgave sams lying after her family gave us shelter and she helped me fight norma during the escape. Her whiny behavior while annoying she did make up for

Did you forgive Norma for attempting to kill Michonne after her brother was killed?

I never blamed norma for attacking me, we were enemies at that point, same reason Ieft her to be eaten. Didnt really ever forgive her for being rude and holding us against our will after she realised we were not with sam

Did you forgive Gabby for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter set her home on fire and left her to fend for herself with the surviving colonists?

No, Gabby was ridiculous and pete gets major props from me for blowing her head off

Did you forgive Jonas for killing Berto and attempting to kill Michonne, after the latter was involved in the death of his boyfriend and left him tied and gagged in a burning ship?

Simaler to Norma I dont blame him for attacking his enemies, never really felt anything for him though
