The Brand and Antagonists.

I just had this theory when I saw a comment and something in my mind clicked, so now I'm gonna talk about it.

Most people by now know that in the teaser trailer for season 3 Javier has a mark branded on his neck. In the recently revealed screenshot of the slaughterhouse Javier doesn't have the brand. So I thought maybe this is the scene leading up to him being branded. So then I wondered if Clementine might get the brand as well and we just couldn't see it in the teaser. And then I thought maybe this is when Clem and Javi (I'm so edgey) meet. I think they might both be prisoners right at the beginning of the episode, to add some mystery and maybe they used some sort of button from a different room remotely to herd them like cattle. Then the duo would meet and be like "The fuck is going on?". At least that's what I thought at first but then I remembered Javi is somehow important to the plot. So maybe he's part of the group that captures Clem and he has a concience? Maybe the brand is for prisoners and/or traitors.

So share your thoughts! Do you think I'm completely bonkers or that there might be some method to my madness?

    Good theory.

Yeah, the whole branding thing does lead me to believe that we're dealing with some terrible corrupt faction. And with it being 4 years into the outbreak, lemme tell ya, those factions get pretty fucked up/weird. Between people wearing walker skins as suits and all in the comic universe, there's no telling what these branding folk want with Clementine and Javier. Whatever the case may be, I'd expect some crazy fuck-shit to occur.

  • I don't think it's just like that, but in fact, we need more info on the brand in order to discuss.

I agree with this theory, but I think it is also possible they maybe cannibals of some kind. Recall the Saint John's In Season 1. I would not be surprised if we find Clem and Javier in a similar situation.

  • I can't wait to find out.

  • Job did say that the main theme for Season Three has not been explored before, and cannibalism has been done to death in the comics, television series, and video game series itself.

Cannibals are off the table this time.

  • I think they're making an army of zombies

I think I have a pretty good idea what the premise is from the screenshots Telltale gave us and what they've said. I believe it's very likely what you mention Agent, in that Clementine and Javier are going to meet up in the slaughterhouse. My hunch is the same also with them being prisoners, in that they're there against their will, possibly having been captured and brought there by some unknown group.

    enter image description here

The reason I say that is because Javier doesn't have a gun in his holster. Clementine's the only one armed, and with just a blade when before in another screencap she had a gun. Either they've broken out from wherever they were and are attempting to make their escape, or they're breaking in for whatever reasons.

Telltale said the pair will be together for a big chunk of the game and have a common goal, so if you're creating circumstances for that to come about, being in a situation where they're trapped and forced to work together would be an ideal way to go about that, more so if they've got people they care about and are looking for. Also with Clementine being by herself now with only A.J, it's more than likely she's going to bail and not trust somebody like Javier that easily. So again, circumstances such as those would benefit that because she might be forced to rely on someone for help should they get into trouble, and hence it would aid in establishing trust.

But I think @RavenSnowstorm might not be far off with the army of zombies thing. Why would you brand people instead of just killing them? Are they capturing walkers and branding them, or just capturing walkers and killing them? Were all those people dead or alive when they went in there and were they there to get branded? T.T aaaah, so many theories! Whoever this group is unnerves me if they're able to go around using a branding iron on people. You saw how much that hurt with Sam in the Michonne's game. If they so much as touch Clementine one of those things, they are dead as dead! =_=
