Looked back to the earliest TWD posts..
TellTalegames doing TWD was not exactly a popular decision at the time was it. Petitions and hate threads. Wow.

Kennyshouldadiedins1, this isn't exactly the best discussing material.
You would be a gret Moderator.
Why? From a fan perspective, it is interesting to see how the announcement of the game was met with somewhat stunned confusion. That turned into a disagreement of just what TTG is and what kind of games should they make.
Certainly also the tepid response people had to Jurassic Park had a bit to do with the issues people originally felt towards TWD. Then when artwork started to come out and the first screens...it is almost like a Rocky movie how people began to get on board and actually have hope for the game.
The first review and the pride the community showed TellTalegames. I dare say one could write quite the story about those early days of the franchise.
Well, that raises a question: What were TellTale Games known for at the time?
Mostly comedic games like Sam & Max.
Honestly, I think it's fine.
They previously made adventure games that focused more on puzzle solving than role playing. You still walked around and made dialogue choices (although not on a timer), but the focus was simultaneously on story and puzzles. Hub areas were way more expansive and the episodes mostly consisted of freely walking between different hub areas of your choice to solve puzzles or talk to characters. Walking Dead made the minimalistic gameplay without puzzles more popular in Telltale's eyes, and the rest is history.
As dojo said, most of Telltale's old games were family friendly, so people were unsure if Telltale could do mature drama or not.
The fact that you had just posted another thread threw me off as to whether this was intended to be discussed, along with the fact that this thread by itself doesn't have a lot of elaboration, and the description confused me, though that's on me, since I'm not a native speaker. And this topic covers far more than just The Walking Dead.
I'm not complaining now, since I see that people are discussing. I just had that impression that the thread might've been argument bait…
…but I don't anymore.
The only thing I saw was the petition to shut it down, but I saw comments that stated it as close minded. Mainly because the person who posted it seemed really uptight and just didn't like change.
Ok. That was my thought.
