Shame. Insult sword fighting is something they can put into the game without making the file a lot bigger (few dialog lines + few characters), and that sequence would make the episode longer.
I don't miss it. I didn't miss it in Revenge which is my favourite game of the series. When replaying Secret (and the SE) & Curse I just find those parts repetitive and a bit of an annoyance.
I really wanted it at first but I think I agree, it's been done plenty of times and isn't really necessary. It has been sort of referenced already and that's enough for me.
GOOD RIDDANCE. I mean, it was okay in SOMI, and had a nice twist in CMI, but EMI really overkilled it. I mean, insult sword fighting, insult arm wrestling... what's next? Insult pissing contest? And the fighting in EMI neglected the whole idea of learning the comebacks, you just had them ready for you. Blach. Hopefully will never see this again.
No big deal. MI2 is considered the best game in the series by many, and I never missed insult sword fighting in that game at any point. It worked pefectly in SMI, and CMI perfectioned it (imo), EMI had the new twist with insult arm wrestling, which was fun, but I don't think the concept could/should be taken any further. They should stop while it's still fun. It's been done, and it's not really that important for the series.
yeah... insult fighting was GREAT.... The first time.
When you replayed the game and knew it all (or almost all of it) already, you just ended up yelling "come oooon, learn the damn insults and answers already" and got pissed.
Knowing that part of the telltale games appeals lies in the replay value of the episodes, i guess the whole insult thing just wouldn't have been so great a choice.
It's still a great idea, and there's no doubt it has become a somehat "basic ingredient" of the whole MI feel, but i guess not overdoing it is still a pretty wise choice.
Maybe that's even one of the point on which MI4 didn't fail... They didn't make you go through the whole learning process again, hence making the whole insult fight more a funny little reference to the old games than a tedious part of the game you HAD to get through no matter what.
Insult swordfighting is tedious. I realized this when playing through Secret recently and then having to do the same thing in Curse. It's annoying and I've had more fun "grinding" for experience in RPGs.
I think if they did it the way EMI did it, where you don't have to "learn" them, it'd be neat. But either way, I still love going back and doing insult swordfighting, especially in CMI, so I'm sad that there won't be another incarnation of it. Maybe they're just psyching us out?
I knew you have a problem, but are you sure this is the abbreviation for
Phenylketonurics?
My insults are unique and famous all over the Caribbean, and pretty soon coming out as an iphone app.
I'd rather they make come up with new material that has the potential to be as classic as insult sword-fighting, than re-hashing the same jokes which have been done to death already.

You just hurt me. Deeply. I think I'm going to cry now. Or punch a wall. Punching walls is more manly.
But, TMI without Insult swordfighting is something I can live with.
Escapist didn't print this part, but another part of the decision was the fact that we knew all about the Special Edition coming out and figured that fans would be getting their fill of Insult Sword-fighting there. I thought that it might be a bit much for a lot of people who would probably be playing both of these games back to back!
To Mark and the rest of the Telltale team: Leaving out insult swordfighting is fine for now. But if Orson Scott Card shows up at your door and offers to write new insults personally, YOU WILL PUT IT BACK IN!

But telltale games AREN'T back to back: the last episode comes out 5 MONTHS from SoMI:SE.

If they did something like the Treasure Hunt thing, I wouldn't mind it.
yes, i agree with telltale that directly in the game we don`t need
another insult sword fighting, but as an mini-game like treasure hunt
i think it was a great fun
perhaps with more prices or an awesome online mode bwahahahaha
Because there's a difference between re-hashing a joke that's been done to death and legitimately expanding a game world in fun and original ways. One ruins a game series, the other breathes new life into it.
Look at MI:2, no insult swordfighting but still the best in the series.
I'm really glad! We must appreciate this wise and brave decision from Telltale. It is no easy to let out something that fans really want. But it's better, trust me. As has been mentioned it has been done too many times.
And I'm happy that Telltale is taking Monkey Island to new directions. One of the reasons why EFMI is not as good as the other games is because it made so many referenced to previous games, that it ended feeling like a self parody of the franchise. And once a series gets to that point it is on the verge of jumping the shark.
I just hope they aren't so harsh on their decision of bringing just a few characters as cameos. There are characters like Stan that must be in every MI game! And c'mon, Murray is such a brilliant character and has never used to its full comedic potential. Even in CMI. Give the skull a chance to really shine. Even better, put him in an episode with the navigator's head. Both should be hylarious as antagonists!
If insult sword fighting is gone, then how come there is a topic dedicated to insult sword fighting on this forum? Can't you guys live with that?
Due to the fact that Telltale has a precedent of listening to fans in the past.
(eg. fans hatted soda poppers= later on in the season, stuff happens to them)
If you need a source... I don't have it. (sorry, it was some interview)
This is kinda one of those "hear-about-telltale-giving-an-inch we attempt to take a mile" kinda things."

I really, REALLY doubt that their role in Season Two had anything at ALL to do with fans not liking the Soda Poppers. I mean, it was etched into the narrative structure of the ENTIRE SEASON.

It's gone? Good riddance.
You mean like a bonus little side-game sort of a thingy?

Yes, but they DID make us learn Monkey Kombat
... Did you spell corrected my post in the quote? You changed the 'will'
to 'we'll' when I actually meant to write "I will".
Fair enough!
Don't do it! Due do taking karate, I put a hole through my wall once.

why not skip MI make a new game all together?

But a bonus game is a good idea. I'm kinda hoping each episode has a cool bonus game.
I don't care if it's a sidequest or part of the main game, I would be upset if this game didn't have Insult Sword Fighting.

But ep1 of TOMI was amazing, so I'm gonna trust Telltale.
