I really, REALLY doubt that their role in Season Two had anything at ALL to do with fans not liking the Soda Poppers. I mean, it was etched into the narrative structure of the ENTIRE SEASON.
Werll the soda poppers were all over season one before the second one, and most people started hating them ever since episode 101... So they had plenty of time to plan doing that
