What things do you like better in the show and vice versa.

The Governor was way better in the show...

Comments

  • Governor was a better character than Carver. That's pretty much all I can think of the show doing better than the games. I can't even watch it full time now because it's so past it. Rick as a character and his group in general are so over the fucking hill that I can't the show is still going on. If Kenny should have died in season 1 then Rick (an inferior character to Kenny and the best Telltall original characters from start to finish imo) should have probably never been alive, much less be at the forefront for 7!!! seasons and counting.

  • I'd say most of the things from the show are equal (in comparison to Season 1) when it comes to characters, situations, etc. I'd say action I guess? There's a lot more action, creative ways to take down zombies, unique weapons, etc. As well as this just general pacing and interaction between characters, with little details here and there are better because there's a better possibility and way of direction, and a lot more freedom when you have a ton of staff to do so.

I'm going to assume you meant between the show and the comics since you only mentioned the Governor, implicitly comparing him to his comic counterpart. In which case, I'd say that the show has done all the minor villains a lot better, in the sense that they were more of a threat and served more of a purpose, ultimately. The Claimers, The Hunters, The Wolves, etc. The show-only illness arc in Season 4 is one of my favorite arcs as well. Negan's debut was more terrifying and heartbreaking than it was in the comic. Some characters are handled better.

The pacing is way better in the comic, though, and the storylines tend to be handled better and with more consistency, especially the prison arc. Comic tends to have better character development and interactions, and certain plot elements made more sense before the show saw fit to change them up. There's also more the comic can do without regard for budgetary constraints, like actually seeing the state of DC, and not obviously being in Georgia while pretending to be in Virginia. Some characters are handled better. The zombies are more consistent as well, whereas the show sometimes goes overboard with gore and spectacle, so zombies can be like jelly with weirdly functioning anatomy, or overpowered depending on the situation.

And if you're including the game, well I like that the show tends to kill off major characters when it's actually earned, as opposed to Season 2 offing major characters left and right with no regard for whether it helps the narrative or not and expecting it to be shocking after about the third time. The game boasts Season 1, though, which is still one of the strongest narratives in all Walking Dead media.

  • I preferred the Shane dilemma in the show. In the comic, it felt really rushed and didn't live up to its full potential. In the comic, Shane didn't strike me as a psychopath that could snap at any minute. He struck me more as a decent guy who was just going through some shit. In the show, you know Shane is a straight up douche canoe as he further delves into his madness.

  • Vice versa to what exactly?

  • yeah my bad..I was meaning the comic...but you are right..S2 sure loved to kill...but I am not going to beat that dead horse too death right now. I will say from what things I have read in the comics...and I am woefully behind the times...you are right the pacing is better in the comics..but the payoff can be better in the show...I think it just happens because the show has time to go and fix things for the better.

When I first heard about the Governor..everyone was saying he was a major bad guy who was awesome. In the comics...things that happened were well done...but he was such a cartoon version of a bad guy I was actually not looking forward to him in the show so much. But they did not waste David Morrissey...who I thought would have been wasted if they kept the Governor the same...but not only did they fix his character...David brought his A game.....and that man has the chops for it.

The show isn't perfect..but they do a good job with a fantastic cast....The comic is amazing as well.

  • comic mostly..sorry was tired when I wrote that title.

  • If I'm really honest, I prefer the show to the comics in general. It has some dumb filler episodes and some unnecessary changes from the comics that ended up being bad, but otherwise I like it better. I guess it has mostly to do with immersiveness, I just can't get as involved in a comic book as I can in a TV show.

  • I really like how they handle certain characters better in the show - such as Carol.

  • The show has the best sound track (comic can't count of course) and suspense of action scenes and death scenes are much better executed. Comics are fine aside from the fact they are non color and The games could really learn a thing or two from the tv series after season one.

  • I'd say most double posts from the forums are equal (in comparison to pre-update) when it comes to general double posting, triple posting, etc. I'd say certain after-update I guess? There's a lot more people double posting. As well as certain users and general users, with certain people rarely doing it here and there because of accidental double clicking. It occurs a lot more often with more people joining the forums to do so.

    (... Sorry, I'm a smartass...)

  • Shane was so fleshed out in the show, I really love the passion and conflict that Bernthal put into that character. It makes you wish they did more with Shane in the comics.

  • I second that.
