Should The Walking Dead S3 have 6 or 7 episodes? THREAD

This is a huge question everyone should be asking telltale games when the time comes.
HOW MANY EPISODES SHOULD BE IN THIS AWESOME SEASON? For example, I remember Minecraft Story Mode had over 8 episodes.
So would it be cool if they are adding up to 6, or 7 episodes?
They always do a minimum of five episodes but I hope they would add a few more on account of how much flashbacks or action/drama that need to be added.
I love the series, makes me wonder if this is the final season but I highly doubt that.

So would it be awesome if Telltale games were to add extra episodes like Game of Thrones or Minecraft Story Mode?

  • They just need to make the episodes longer than S2's and they're good imo

Some episodes had more chapters than others, but are shorter or longer.

Most of them were about an hour and a half long, with only 4 and 5 being the exception iirc

I know we're never gonna go back to TWD S1 levels of episode length(about 3 hours), but I always thought Tales From the Borderlands had the perfect middle-ground (2 hours).

Yeah I noticed the finale of TFTBL was a bit longer than I thought. Also S1's episodes were longer than S2's I believe.

  • They were much longer, I've been doing a Telltale marathon stream recently (Which you should check out btw) and the S1 episodes are like 3 hours long, while the S2 episodes are like half as long.

  • This I can totally agree. Though I can't understand why they made S2 not as long as S1, maybe it was because they were also making TWAU at the same time?

  • I'm pretty sure making shorter episodes was a decision that Telltale made.

Telltale making multiple games at once does not slow down the production time, quality or length of their other episodes.

  • As many as they need to tell the story. If it needs 5, then 5 is the perfect amount. Would I love it if TWD had more episodes, sure, but only if it is crucial to the story, the last thing I want is for an episode to drag out or just be pointless filler (cough Around Every Corner cough).

  • Actually, Minecraft: Story Mode had only 8 episodes

    This.

If every episode was something like 20-30 minutes longer, then it makes up an entire episodes worth of content over the whole season anyway.

Not that I'd be complaining if we got extra episodes, but just making the current model's a bit longer would be fine.

  • No. They shouldn't make more episodes just for the sake of having more episodes. The TV show, for example, has 16 episodes per Season, and about half of them are stupid filler. Quality > Quantity

  • Adding more episodes to the 3rd season would be a great way for people to say, "Aw man that episode was intense, this series is the best."

  • with the execption of minecraft [8] sam and max season 1 ,and game of thrones [ 6] it has always been 5 episodes. 5 episodes just works with episodic games and adding more would just mess it up somehow.

  • Definitely longer than S2 and longer than season 1 as well imo considering there is 2 playable characters.

Awesome? Bit soon don't ya think to be claiming it as such?

Anyway, on the subject of the actual question- no, I don't believe more than 5 episodes is needed. Telltale just need to make them longer than what they were in season 2 with the story actually progressing in each episode, and I'll be content.

No, I think this season should have no more or less than 5 episodes.

  • I think if season 3 were structured like season 1 it would be a lot more successful among fans. What I mean by this is five 2-2.5 hour episodes constituting the main story, and then a 1.5-2 hour DLC to give players one final taste and a chance for some closure. I think this would be ideal.

  • I'll settle for just 6.

  • Lol, also yeah, I mean we all can't get enough walkers to kill nor bandits/survivors during S1 to S2, and a season like this deserves 6 or 7 episodes, that's the minimum I think should be added.

  • I think 6 is ok, but longer episodes would be enough to make me happy. Around 2 hour or so it's good (but I accept more obviously)

  • Y'know, I believe they'll stick with 6 episodes, a seventh episode could be nice.

  • Reminds me of the Walking Dead show a bit, because they played flashbacks with some of the group like Morgan.

  • I'm with @MettalicaRules on this one. They should only add more episodes if it's absolutely crucial to the narrative. If not, then I'd much rather prefer five episodes.

  • I think if we were to get more than five or would be six or if we're lucky 7 the walking dead season 2 was supposed to have 8 episodes (because the walking dead micchone was supposed to be dlc for it) but I'm predicting an extra dlc episode like season 1.

It's not confirmed. But I hope that doesn't happen :(

  • Well, what made season 1 so long is that it had many more hub sections to explore and puzzles to solve in every episode. Season 2 had Telltale start their "TV style approach" to their games with more action-based cutscenes and minimal puzzles to solve, so the story is more engaging and flowing.

This I can totally agree. Though I can't understand why they made S2 not as long as S1, maybe it was because they were also making TWAU at the same time?

  • Ok. Well, we know it's going to be five based on the Season's store descriptions, so that's set in stone. But if it was still in limbo, I feel that it just needs to have as many episodes as it needs to tell their story. Have 5 episodes, 6, I don't care. Just give me enough so that the story is still fun and cohesive for the season.

  • Yep, like episode 4, Lee walks around Crawford which was big, trying to get medicine, car battery, and fuel.

  • We can only hope if we are going to play two main characters, haven't noticed this but did anyone realize that Kenny was supposed to be the main character of season 2 but they scrapped it?

What if the endings you choose with which character to go with would have you play as them? Although it seems too much for telltale to have you play as one of three people, Kenny, Jane, or Clem. If these endings are just supposed to be flashbacks of what happened in the past season after the ending choice.

Could be right about that, I was hoping after episode 5's many endings, if there was going to be a dlc of a character who would pop up in S3. In a weird way, the Michonne Mini Series could actually be S2 dlc, could this be what they said about the comic book series crossing over to the game series? It'd actually be cool to see Clementine meet Michonne when she was going back to her group, or maybe see (comic book) Rick Grimes when he started growing a scruffy beard again, I am gonna hype so bad if they actually go for a Michonne/Clementine crossover, depending on how many episodes are going to be added. This could be like a small possibility.

  • I rememeber when they said we were getting a bigger series. But doesn't look like it's gonna happen anymore. Either way I would have loved 6 or 7 episodes.

  • Its something we can hype for, because more episodes mean we would get more flashbacks with clementine's past of S1 or S2. Or more locations to fight walkers or gang members.

  • As long as they tell the whole story very well, I'm fine with either 5 or more episodes.

  • Yes only because more twd is always good, and if it wasn't a ton if filler to make it that long.

  • 6 or 7 episodes make it more exciting to have more plots of the story.
