Why Clementine may be with us for a long time.
I like many of you suffered through the VGA just to see the new trailer. I also watch chat fly by at a zillion letters a second. Why anyone would try to chat in a forum that on Youtube was closing in on 100k towards the end is easily summed up...they were just there to support specific games and kept blasting the names. It was nice to see Doom getting love and was heartened when even these trolls hearts melted with This Dragon Cancer(I think the name was)
But then the Trailer started....and when Clementine appeared....so many of those hard bitten trolls stated to post things like...There SHE IS...She lit up the Room...CLEMMY!! TWD ROCKS!! MY CLEMENTINE!!
It is amazing how this character can be so warmly received by the same people who were claiming that Nathan Drake sucked balls and that Overwatch was for losers. Perhaps there is something to the Telltale story method after all. And Clementine seems to be the symbol. It does beg the question...how many people who fell in love with TWD...went on to buy TTGs other projects.

There will always be certain character types that will be able to hit the spot (as long as the story they are in is told well). A young charismatic female character is a certain character type like that. It is the same reason why Ellie is so beloved and why back in the day Aeris from FF7 was such a loved character (and probably many other games that I never played had characters like that as well).
Quite honestly if they decided to start the series with an 8/9 year old boy instead of Clementine it likely wouldn't have had the same affect on people and I doubt the series would have taken off the way it did.
