Javier is such a breath of fresh air.
I know a lot of people are disappointed with the game, not sure why though. I played the first episode and loved it, I haven't managed to get around to episode 2 yet but I just want to talk about Javier right now.
I was one of the people who were salty about the "This is Javier's story" comment but I'm over that now as I love him already. It's so good to see a character like him in this dark world. He just seems happy, despite everything he still knows how to enjoy life and he's fun, also a bit mischievous. I really like his relationship with Kate and his nephew & niece. So that's about it, I really enjoyed his character despite my earlier salty opinion.
What did you think about Javier? Also please avoid spoilers from both episodes 1 & 2, just stick to Javier's character.

He's a POS
Season 2 is useless because Season 3 is now The Poor man Lee and Clem story
I really like him. I also really like Kate. Not a big fan of Gabe yet but yeah. I think he's a breath of fresh air too. And I'm already liking he and Clem's rapport. I have hope in this season yet.
I disagree but this discussion isn't about season 2, or Clem or Lee. It's about Javier.
Positivity! I finally found it!
The second Gabe (in the present) spoke I knew I'd like him as I tend to find characters like him interesting but I also had a feeling most would find him annoying.
Yeah I mean there's flaws but I overall like where this is going. I really like Javier. He's a great character. I'm not in the mood to flame because my favorite character got Omid'd or that Clementine isn't the main character even though she 50% is. I was way angrier at season 2 for needlessly killing off Omid and by default story-killing Christa. They weren't determinant and really didn't need to go. In this case I can somewhat understand and I can try to accept that the characters got multiple endings. Kenny and Jane can both be alive. We'll just never see them again. So it's either we get closure and they die or we don't and they might be alive out there. I'll stick with hope like I stick with hope in this season.
Last words?
"Half life 3 cancelled"
I haven't played ANF yet personally, but from what I've seen of Javier, he seems like he's gonna be a blast to play as!
he really likes pudding btw
I already like him from the two dialogue choices I've seen from the first 2 minutes I saw.
I'll be honest, he's probably the saving grace of these episodes. That first scene with him in the car and Kate I think I liked him right away and that's a sign of a good character.
However, this season so far is worse than season 2, I don't think even Javi can save it. I have no doubt this will be the last season.
The season seems spectacular to me.
I have tried very much not to be a harsh judge based on the marketing and media attention for this season, I'm really hoping I can enjoy his character when I play it tomorrow.
It's so different from season 2 that you can't objectively compare them. You honestly found nothing else to be enjoyable this episode?
You can absolutely compare them. Are there positives? Great graphics, Javi is a great choice for the lead I like his character, Clem has been well handled aswell.
That's pretty much it, there are some major story flaws I could get into if you want? It would be a paragraph though
I like Javier and I'm surprised I don't mind playing as him. But I'd rather play as Clem and honestly, they pushed her to the side, she doesn't even feel like a deuteragonist, her and Kate are basically on the same level in my opinion.
Ohhhh I would love for you to point out these flaws.
I... really have nothing to say about his character. Don't hate him, don't love him. Out of all the Walking Dead protagonists so far, he's certainly the most generic. Good voice actor, I guess. Honestly, his brother and sister-in-law seem way more interesting.
I like him a lot, he's a really good protagonist.
Dear god, an entire paragraph? You're a madman!
It's how I seduced my girlfriend. She loves online keyboard rants.
Ohhh yeah baby...rip that character a new one...ohh god....tell them how much their prose is shit. Soo damn hot....ohh god now go in for the Kenny and Jane thing....wait...who is Enid again? ...uhuh...ok.....I see....no ...no the mood is gone.
I agree so much, he's so bland.
Just finished episode one, and I freaking love him! I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I really didn't like playing as Clem in season 2. I love her, but I just don't think she worked well as a playable character. I prefer having her as a companion. So I have absolutely no issues with Javier having more focus in season 3. Like you said, it's a breath of fresh air, and I think he's very entertaining and enjoyable.
Clem in season 2 is like a 50-50 split with the fans. Some people enjoyed playing as her some people didn't.
I'm glad you like Javi! ^_^
Team Javi
I think he's too pretty.
I love Clem as much as anyone, but it's nice to play as a grown man again.
Great character! Great protagonist!
I wish I saw this earlier!
Javier is a refreshing new protagonist. It is really enjoyable playing as him. I like how the first scene establishes that Javier is a good person but also flawed, immature and maybe irresponsible.
When there is a flashback scene, I will play Past Javier as laid-back, slightly selfish and self-centered. In present day, I will play him as more mature, responsible and pragmatic due to his burden and responsibility on his shoulders as well as how the Apocalypse sharped him into a ruthless survivor who is fiercely protective of his family.
I really look forward to see how his story goes and continue his development and relation with his family and Clementine.
So, back after playing. I like Javier, but it's not that blown up for me.
I think he's a allaround nice character, decent design, you can treat Clementine with respect without appearing like a whimp, well acted and I generally like his chemistry with the other characters, he's beleivable.
I have to admit, I don't get what so "deep" about him that I've seen other people claim, I don't think he is amazing in any significant way either.
I'm not directly offended by his presence, which I feared was the worst case scenario, he's a cool dude, but don't blow him up. He's not that much of a sensation.
I agree. I really liked him and I thought I wouldn't. I almost refunded the game on steam when I heard that Clem wasn't really playable. I'm glad I didn't now. We are still playing Clem's story - just from a different perspective.
Really enjoying this season (so far) much much more then season 2.
I like Javi so far. He seems competent and tough when he needs to be, definitely loyal, but with a humorous side. I like his budding his friendship with Clem. I'm not upset that Kenny and Jane died because I was expecting them to die, and I'm glad that they are out of the story, although I did feel sad for Jane. It's not how I wanted her to go but I understand it. Now, we can start a whole new story with only Clem and AJ connecting them to season two which is fine by me. Ive also only played part one so far, but I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to playing part two.
I think he's just pretty enough.
Despite having some minor complaints about this season. I have enjoyed Javier as the protagonist thus far. I really love his focus and connection with his family. Also his complicated relationship with Kate has been possibly my favourite aspect of this season so far. Though he can come across slightly generic at times. But Still.. Episode 3 shall be very interesting.
I don't hate him or anything, I just don't really care about him. Maybe it'll be easier after a second playthrough, but I dragged myself through most of the game just to see that parts I was interested in. But the inbetween was just bad for me. Javier just felt bland and uninteresting, his nephew is closing in on Ben levels of no, Kate needs to find her husband and leave me alone, and Mari was the only that didn't annoy me. Javiers probably had it harder than most though, having to replace the original cast and protagonists, and his description didn't really help with the first impressions. A Cuban American baseball player devoted to his extended family? Am I playing The Walking Stereotype? Who wrote this? Eh.
Javier is okay I guess. He's nice, but nothing really too interesting about him that I can cling on to. Unlike Clem or Lee. He can certainly be charming from some of his dialogue options, but others I find really odd.
What can he say, he fucking loves pudding!
I love playing as Javier and he's rather "dashing" as he says so himself and he's nice to look at. He's also caring and a really great character and I really enjoy playing as Javier.
I think he's awesome.
Am I the only one who thought, "Hey was he a baseball player?" after seeing him kill that first walker? I think it's such a cool and useful detail how he swings a lot of his weapons like a bat.
