TTG and Choices Matter genre.
I think the main issue of why TTG thought it would of been best to kill of Kenny/Jane is because it would of required much more work to have them around. Episode 5 of Season 2 left us with five ending. Four technically if you eliminate the family situation with the Jane ending (there's literally only one piece of dialogue that divides the both of them). It appears that once characters become determinate, they are at the cross-roads of getting killed off after or being cut-off from the others and never seen again. Although determinate really should be where our choices matter, it seems like this would be a very difficult task for TTG to do since they would have to make more and more branching lines of alternate choices.
There have been many instances of this. Nick and Sarah, Kenny and Jane are prime examples of choices not mattering. If you define a choice mattering from a three minute flash-back, then I guess you already have your answer. My issue is that Javier was introduced as a prime-example to get rid of the alternate branching paths from Episode 5 to reduce the work-force they would need to actually make the game. I wouldn't mind waiting another two years if meant getting actual alternate paths because that's what a lot of the Kenny and Jane fans wanted; To actually spend time with those characters, continue to build up on them, survive, ect. Killing them off is alright. It's the Walking Dead. If I were writing, I'd of been extremely careful to who I'd of killed off though, the original cast is all but gone (with the exception of Lilly who was meant to be in a novel or whatever after her departure, but something happened). Wouldn't it of been very interesting to actually still have someone from the very start still prospering on? It seems to work for Rick and Daryl in the TV show.
But that's the point. TV isn't a choice between alternate paths, while The Walking Dead game is supposedly to make our choices matter. This is what TTG should stick by. Having both Kenny and Jane killed off and not having more than a five minute cameo is absolutely shameful, it just yet reinforces that TTG can no longer make those choices matter. The Carley and Doug situation did matter at least because they had character through-out the other two episodes. Having most, if not all of your characters killed off in one season doesn't lead to emotional impact, it just forces you to create new characters. Hence Javier. Kenny and Jane being determinate pretty much sealed the deal on this. Javier is only essential to the story BECAUSE of how messed up the situation is with our choices. In my opinion, I think the flash-backs would of been better if from Episode 1-4 you actually got to bond with those characters, potentially even meet new ones in the flash-back. And then on the last episode, perhaps have something happen to those characters, for example, Jane dies and Kenny gets separated from Clementine (Just an example ). While at the same time, having AJ still with Clementine in the present story so that something like this could work.
The episodes aren't even long. You could probably combine Episode 1 and 2 because of how short they are. Comparing them from Season's one. They are put to shame and this only yet reinforces why the flashbacks should of been longer and why Clementine should of been more of a focus rather than Javier having almost full control. All of the decisions in Season 2 come from Clementine. Javier isn't in Season 2, to have your choices carry over you need to have Clementine. Javier is simply a new protagonist that has absolutely nothing tying him with Season 1 or season 2. So in my opinion, yet again; They only introduced this character purely because they couldn't handle the alternate paths we had. Which leads me, and a few others very disappointed.
And for the record, I like Javier's character. I just don't like how they wanted to forget Season 1 and Season 2 happened.
