The Third Time (SPOILERS FOR ANF)

I just want to start off by saying that this is not a hate post. I personally really liked the Premiere Episodes of ANF and I can't wait for the next ones. However, there is something that is really bugging me, and I have really seen anyone else mention it yet.

The thing is, hasn't Telltale already used this type of story twice already?

Let's go back to Season 2. In that story Clementine meets a group. She eventually finds out that the group has some sort of past history with the antagonistic group, which they were once a part of or a prisoner of. This worked for the story imo, it was a fresh new idea as we finally had a Telltale Walking Dead villain that had some sort of power or authority over other people.

Then the Michonne Miniseries came in. I realized something as I was replaying it: The narrative is basically the same as the first half of Season 2. Think about it, Michonne and Pete stumble upon a group of people (In this case Sam and Greg) who were prisoners of the antagonistic group. Then Michonne helped defeat said group, just like in Season 2 with Carver's Group. I just waved it off as a coincidence when I realized this

Now when I play Season 3/ANF, I realize that the same thing happens for the THIRD TIME. Once again in this story, the protagonist, Javier, meets someone who has history with the antagonistic group, who is in this case Clementine. Sure, the story will probably go in a fresh new direction, but it sort of feels cheap when this same writing is used for the third time in a row in the same series/franchise.

I'm still holding out a lot of hope that it won't just be a repeat again. I'm sure that the writers have a lot of tricks up their sleeves, and I can't wait to see them come to life.

Comments

  • They typically use the same formula when it comes to any walking dead conger they create so I wouldn't hold my breathe

  • I thought Season 3 would have more than just 5 minutes of playable Clementine! She is the main point of me playing the game and I don't think Javier is that interesting. He is a good protagonist but this his story is predictable! HOWEVER the game is extremely fun and Clem's story is really interesting!
