How are the statistics calculated?

I've noticed while watching S3 play through's, the choices vary from game to game. For example, PewDiePie's play through looked like he was using a controller while KubzScouts appeared to be using a mouse and both were uploaded on the same day (21st) but the statistics are different between the two but I also watched Yogscast Hannah and Galm who both uploaded their playthrough today (22nd) and their stats are different but it appears their both using a mouse. Hannah's stats matched PewDiePie's and Galm's matched KubzScouts. Maybe since the game is freshly new, that the stats are just all over the place but it just seems so weird. I'm wondering if the stats are combined and just always changing or if you're stats are only calculated with people who play on your device or maybe another reason?

    I would guess the stats are only counted across people using the same device.

    Pewdiepie also played on PC, but with an Xbox controller. I think it must depend on when they played it.
