Clementines Dark Path
"Having people is nice, but it always ends up hurting in the end, never think otherwise"
Now I'm sure that like a lot of people, it didn't really hit me how much Clementine had changed until she accidentally killed that guy and then tried to get Javier to twist the truth in regards to exactly how it happened. Obviously in the flashbacks she looked relatively happy regardless if she was with Kenny, Jane or alone, but those events of trauma in the flashbacks combined with whatever she went through with TNF group clearly turned her colder and into the Clem we know now, that part is easy enough to figure out.
It was a great shocking moment that actually left me a little disappointed in her because of all the times I tried to tell her as Lee that 'killing is bad no matter what' but I kind of get that this is years into the apocalypse and times have changed, she's a teenager now, she's had enough of been screwed over, and she seems to be a tad more reckless then before when she kept firing off what was supposedly shitty bullets that didn't work, she didn't expect it to kill him. But even saying all this, you can still see little nods to her softer side when she puts the candy bar back in your backpack.
It seems like Clem has lost a lot of trust and hope in people and has isolated herself and refused to become as close to anyone as she was with Lee and Kenny/Jane (determinant). The theme of this season seems to be the introduction of new groups and expansion of the world.. but I think this has potential as a mini character arc for her this season, seeing her slowly open up and regain some of her humanity and begin to care about people as she once did would be a great thing to gradually see grow, mainly through how you play Javier around her, after all as a main he should have a lot of influence over how the rest of the cast will act depending on his decisions, I think this would be a good way to give Javier even more purpose, lets not forget he is the main here, and given some time and care has potential. What are some of your hopes for the duo's arc this season?

She was rather quick to take the heroic sacrifice route even so. She didn't hesitate to let Javier and Tripp leave her at the junkyard and fight a small legion of gunmen when I expressed the desire to return to Prescott with my family.
I think old Clem is still in there, she's figuring the tough act out, but she helped when it counted and when she didn't really have to.
She doesn't have a moral compass around her anymore. Rick went through dark periods when he lost his. Plus, she's still a kid. Carl was the same way, but he always had his father & ppl around him. As Javier, I'm trying to restore her trust.
I mean let's see.
Clementine has been taken hostage 4 times by different people, only one of them ending up being good (The Cabin Family). She has lost Lee, Kenny, Christa, Omid, Ben, Lilly, Carley/Doug, Duck, Katjaa, Luke, Nick, Carlos, Sarah, Rebecca, Alvin, was shot in the chest, lost Kenny/Jane, lost a home one too many times. Lost her parents, has seen the downfall of communities from outside and within. Almost every single group of people she's been in has either ended up dead, betraying her, or simply gone. No matter what ending she is in, she is always suffering.
I can see why she's very closed off and distrustful, because she is quite simply scared and the only thing she has left out of the chaotic mess of four years is AJ, who is possibly dead or worse. I hope Old Clementine shines through and Javier/the others, can show her there is always hope and a group doesn't always die.
Agreed, If anything I was hoping Javier could be that symbol of hope, at least thats the way I try to play him.
Yeah, it hurt at first.
But then I remembered I'm doing the same as Telltale and felt guilty.
