What would you say is the best way to play Clem in S2 to make sense in S3?

Since in S3:

  • She doesn't mind stealing from Javier
  • She loves swearing and threatening
  • She is cold but still caring, she doesn't have problem talking about her past with a goddamn stranger, she even asked him about his family
  • She doesn't mind killing people who "wronged" her like Eli, Conrad, the New Frontier
  • She doesn't mind lying
  • If you are in her good side she is... "good", though still cold because of the whole "We are not friends" "I'm just helping you because of the van"
  • She likes revenge
  • She is still "good" since she dig a grave for Mariana and was nice with Javier
  • If you left her she returns to help you and warn you about the New Frontier/If you went with her she pulls up a Jane, tells you she is going to leave but returns immediatly to help you (She values friendship? or she wants that van very badly)
  • She is nice with Gabe
  • She doesn't have problems saying what she thinks, neither responding Conrad and Tripp when they are mean with her
  • She ends up revealing you the truth, leaves you like Jane and is probably going to return to help you if you shot Conrad

What would you say are the best responses, choices, etc to make sense that she is that way in S3?
For example stealing with Arvo is a MUST, you don't know if he is lying, and she doesn't mind stealing from Javi.
Protecting the baby is also a must
But other choices like leaving Sarah? help Luke? tell the truth about Nick or hide it?

  • I don't really get what's the fuss about Clem.

Sure she doesn't necessarily align with our previous choices, but so far, we only got a glimpse of what she had had to go through between S2 and S3. And even with the crumbs we got, we can already tell that she was deeply affected by the way she did split ways with both Kenny and Jane (regardless of how they die).

People are bound to change, especially if they go through a long period of stress and isolation. Imagine living out there, with a baby to protect, constantly on the fence, all the while having experienced such tragedies at a young age. It should be enough to break anyone, even alter their very judgement.

Adds to that her "this was bad" from New Frontier, it should tell you enough that there is enough that happened for her to not trust people anymore (regardless of her potential better nature expressed in S1&2). She even tells you "I'm usually on my own". There is a reason she sticks to it. More will be revealed about that.

My answer to your topic is thus; each and any past decision is viable because the way this season seems to be going translates as "being alone" and "being in bad company" suck mightily. So find a trusted partner and don't leave their side.

She might not believe it. She might have forgotten it. She might even fear it. But it's up to Javier to show her the way.

  • People are bound to change

If my Lee from S1 refused to steal from the stranger even though the whole group specially Clementine needed food.
And my Clementine refused to steal from Arvo, even though Rebecca, Luke and Kenny REALLY needed the medicine.
She shouldn't want to steal a candy bar, or anything from Javier.

Of course people change over the years, specially a little girl who's personality is just shaping, but if you believed all your life stealing is wrong, Lee and yourself choose not to when you most needed it, you shouldn't do it without remorse now.
The only way I could accept she changed so much is if AJ is dead.

  • We don't know the current circumstances in which Clem currently is. We don't know much of what happened since she's alone either. But we will get to it.

Telltale wouldn't make such (possibly drastic) changes to a character that we've been following for two previous seasons without a good reason.

  • My Clem watched Kenny beat Carver to death with a wrench.... So....

Everything she does in S3 makes sense.
