TWD: A New Frontier: Episode II Ending Choice

I know I'm a week late to the party, but since Christmas came around a couple days ago, I finally got to play the new season of Telltale's The Walking Dead. I'm enjoying it, but of course, mostly because of Clementine.

The reason I opened this thread was my questioning on why so many people killed Conrad. I do agree, it is uncalled for that he pulled out his gun, held Gabe hostage, and if he survives, keeps Clementine at gunpoint, but we need to remember it IS Javi's fault that his wife got killed. If he didn't go to their settlement, then Conrad and his wife would still be happily married and both alive.

Kind of reminds me why I kept Kenny live in S2. He lost his son AND wife on the same day and had to mourn ever since (because he was alone after that, family wise.) He was a little more crazy than Conrad was, but, Kenny was the only one that knew Clementine since the outbreak happened. Sure, we just met Conrad about a couple days ago in the game, but he JUST lost his wife. As I said before, not justifiable for what he did, but he did say nobody had to get hurt if Javi agreed to his plan to bring Clementine to the New Frontier. What do you guys think? Does my thinking seem logical or should I just go back and shoot Conrad?

Please note, this is coming from someone that loves Clementine. Even though she's just a character from a video game, we've known her since 2012; 4-5 years ago, we didn't want her to get hurt/die in S1, because, duh, nobody hurts my Clementine, and S2 because we played as her; we lost Lee when we controlled him last season, he don't want to lose her as well.

  • He went nuts. He would've killed Gabe and Javier. He threatened Clem. He's a corpse.

I understand why he was upset and I can see some logic in his idea, but the guy was completely unhinged and not thinking about anything except revenge, including his own safety and the safety of the group. Blaming Javier and screaming on the side of the road was irrational and didn't help anything, firing off his shotgun for no damn reason was completely reckless,, pulling a gun on Clementine was bad, but then holding Javi's nephew hostage? Hell no, Javi just lost Mariana and now this fucker was threatening to shoot Gabe. Gabe was not to blame for anything in that situation, and Conrad actually shoots both Gabe and Javi if you let the timer run out like I did. I don't think Javi is a guy who would tolerate and cooperate with a man who was willing to threaten and hurt two children, one being his nephew.

So yeah, Conrad is a loose cannon. He reminds me of Kenny if he wasn't pulled back from the brink by Lee. Having Conrad around will makes things so much worse after meeting up with David, he is going to hate Javier so much more now.

Coming into these games, I always have a mentality in which I try to reach out and aid everyone I can, until doing so will greatly compromise the safety of those I care for. This was one of those situations.

I feel terrible about what happened to Francine. I played it safe earlier, but she still ended up passing. Conrad was greiving, and he was no means a bad man. However, his holding my nephew at gunpoint was the last straw. Javier just lost a family member, and there was no way he could take the risk. Who's to say that the New Frontier will even accept Clem as a bargaining chip? Will they upright kill her? Once they receive her, how could anyone forsee if they would actually hold up their end of the bargain? Clementine saved Javier and proved herself to be reliable and a decent kid overall. While Conrad's acts against Gabe were the main motivators to my decision, I felt that my Javier would not send an innocent person who helped him on multiple occasions into a possible deathtrap with the possibility of receiving no benefits. I understand the other side of the argument though, and I'm only speaking for my version of Javier. I felt terribly guilty, but Conrad was compromising the safety of me and my family. It was an impulsive yet justifiable decision made in an extremely tense and painfully quick moment.

  • So should I go back and kill Conrad or see how it goes next episode?

  • Conrad had it coming, holding Gabe hostage was the last straw.

  • Stick to your choice mate.

Or ... do the right thing and kill that moron.

  • I'd say you should just wait and see how your decision plays out in the coming episodes. Don't let it bother you that such a large amount of people chose a different path, the numbers will probably even out a bit once the rest of the game is released anyway.

  • I feel for Conrad, I offered to surrender myself to ANF when that situation went down. #MyClementine aside, it may not have been the best idea to take the nephew of someone who'd just watched his niece get gunned down to convince him that you should try to trade the girl who freed you from them and has been willing to help and defend your family to the people that murdered your niece and destroyed a community just because she's a runaway member.

So yea, Conrad ate a bullet in my game lol. Dude waving around a gun and out his mind.

  • Or just do another play thru on a different save...I dunno...seems logical...I did not shoot him the first time...in my second save I played Javier as a take no shit kinda guy and plugged Conrad.

Stick to your choice mate. Or ... do the right thing and kill that moron.
