"You have the right to remain (walking) dead" - Why season 3 is disapointing
Hello! First time poster, long time reader.
Like everyone else, I was extremely disappointed with the flashbacks in Season 3 and how Telltale threw away beloved characters in the most generic ways possible. I also felt the need to vent my frustration. But instead of making long rants about it, I decided to show the flaws of the writers at Telltale in a way that's both hilarious and creative. I don't wanna say anymore just yet, but I believe this video will help explain just why the flashbacks are so poorly written.
Enjoy! Come back and discuss after you watch it!
(video contains spoilers for season 3)
EDIT: If you have watched the video and don't get the reference at all, here's the explanation to it all. "Mcbain" is an action movie hidden throughout several episodes of "The Simpsons". It's actually more of a parody of generic action movies from the 80's since everything in it consists of old cliche's and tropes. The fact that I was able to seamlessly integrate scenes from "Mcbain" into the Season 3 flashbacks shows just how poorly written and cliche they are. The flashbacks are literally just as cliche as a compilation/parody of cliches... But you don't even need to view the video as criticism at all, it's mainly just for laughs (so don't get all defensive on me guys).

Cool, another special snowflake thread criticizing season 3.
Well done !
Cool, another nonconstructive commenter that didn't even read the original post.
"But instead of making long rants about it, I decided to show the flaws of the writers at Telltale in a way that's both hilarious and creative."
This is different from the other threads, and we have every right to criticize constructively.
And why is that a bad thing?
First off, not that funny. Second. It doesn't really explain why the flashbacks are poorly written. In your eyes at least.
oh. This is hilarious ♥♡♡
Agreed
I'll admit, it's probably not that funny if you're not familiar with the clip the audio is from beforehand (not sure if you are, but here is the clip anyway).
The reason it shows how badly written it is, is because "McBain" is a "The Simpsons" parody of generic action movies. All of the dialouge is written in cliche's and it's so freaking obvious that Kenny/Scoy is going to die (two days away from retirement or talking about how great things are gonna get = imminent death). The fact that I was able to mash these two scenes together so easily shows how cliche Kenny's death was.
Clementine as Mcbain lmao.
"Oh stop talking crazy!"
I died xD
The flashbacks in episode 1 were dumb and badly done, but I still love this season despite what they did to Kenny. I'm just glad we get a complete fresh start except for Clem
In the future, let's please try to make more constructive comments in discussions instead of patronizing and dismissing people for their opinions like that.
No, you got me wrong, I think it's great that people are making the same threads over and over again because of the same stupid reasons.
Why did this video reminded me of Flimsii's videos back before S2 hit the bricks...
I'm glad if you can still enjoy season 3. Personally though, I'm not giving any more money, I'm just gonna watch a walkthrough from someone like-minded. With how little our choices matter the difference is not that big.
I'm glad I got the opportunity to actually make this video though, I got many good laughs editing the scenes together
I'm just happy Kenny's gone and I'm crossing my fingers AJ is a goner too. lol
Thanks man!
My favorite part has to be the second scene though
"In this department, we go by the book!"
fucking heatshots the guy
"Bye book..."
I'm pretty satisfied with how well it fit with Carver's crew shooting up the car too It's pretty damn insane how all of it goes together so perfectly, no?
That part was awesome, too. It's just funny hearing McBain talking as Clementine throughout the whole thing xD
This is just fucking great. I think it's time to grow up.
Well I just wasted my time. Thanks alot.
You think it's great? Well thanks man!
Seriously though; if you don't get the reference, don't have any humor or just can't stand constructive criticism why not just move along? But I'm happy you watched it anyway
I thought you were seriously critcizing Season 3. Didn't watch the video though. My bad
Sorry man, guess your not a big fan of the Simpsons...
I realize I kind of didn't explain my criticism of Season 3 and took for granted that people would get the reference. My bad...
I've edited the original post (after finding out how, this forum has some glitches) and added an explanation of why season 3 is so disappointing and what my video actually has to do with it.
Except you edited in things to the flashbacks just to try and make a point that seems more like straw grasping. You also took Clementine's accidental killing of Eli and turned it into a comical moment that actually does nothing to help your argument.
So what you did was just make a video using a 20 year old McBain reference and then make a post about the writing of the flashbacks that has nothing to do with your video other than to try and get you views on YouTube and likes.
In fact you just joined the forums today, breaking posting rules about youtube videos.
"Except you edited in things to the flashbacks just to try and make a point that seems more like straw grasping."
It's not straw grasping if the premise is identical mate. Kenny/Scoy talk about how bright their future is, which of course means they're gonna die by plot convenience. Then they both have a "I'm not gonna make it moment" followed by a "you gotta do this last thing for me". The main idea is pretty clear, any other editing is just for comedic effect and to make sure that it looks relatively well dubbed. But I'm guessing you're referring to how I edited in Carver's group (Telltale) shooting up the car, which might as well have happened since the car originally spun out of control for no good reason anyway...
"You also took Clementine's accidental killing of Eli and turned it into a comical moment that actually does nothing to help your argument."
Key word is comedy here! I only included that scene because I thought it was funny and also because it kind of fit in with the Mcbain clip by pure coincidence. There wasn't any real criticism in that extra scene, the whole point was for it to be a comical extra scene.
"So what you did was just make a video using a 20 year old McBain reference and then make a post about the writing of the flashbacks that has nothing to do with your video other than to try and get you views on YouTube and likes."
Any fan of the Simpsons will get the reference (which there are many of), others will get the explanation. And the fact that it's 20 years old only strengthens the argument that the whole scene is a big cliche. I had an idea I thought expressed the issues I have with the flashbacks in a humorous way, and I wanted to share that with people. I didn't spend several hours editing this just to keep it on my hard drive lol. That's all it is man.
I appreciate you watching it all the way through though
You were saying?
What is the matter? That's the official one =^.^=
Yeah right.
That's the spirit girl
Did you just assume my gender ?
Triggered.
He was always going to be gone after the S2 outcome either way.
Also what's wrong with AJ. What do you have against him?
I use to be.
Never watched those untill now... They're alright but Scumbag Lee remains the best TWD parody imo :P
I wonder if I should make more videos like these... Can't think of another Mcbain scene that would fit, but there's probably other funny sketches I could dub to this game.
AJ is so cute.
lol
Not sure if that's me you're quoting, but I'll bite (lol). Like I said, the video in combination with the explanation I wrote clearly shows everything that's wrong with the scene. It shows that the whole thing is a cliche-fest and something out of a bad 80's cop movie.
I'll admit though, I didn't really say how they could have done it better, but my purpose was more to pinpoint the flaws, which is constructive in it's own right.
Anyway, I believe the whole scene is pretty much unfixable. What they should have done was include Kenny/Jane (if you didn't go alone) alongside Clementine in the MAIN story! They did it with Carley/Dough, it's not that damn hard. Then they should have had them be killed by the new Frontier, which would explain why Clem hates them and might even want revenge (which would give the players a reason to care). Hell, it would even be alright if this happened in flashbacks (make it more like 20 minute flashbacks though).
You could make an irony moment cuts from the game... or something cliche-y, What program have you been using for this?
I liked it! I think it highlights the weakness of the Kenny flashback pretty well. On the other hand, I think the Eli scene is actually the stronger part of the season, but I'm guessing that it should just be taken as comedy without criticism.
This guy gets it!
The key is to look at what the dialogue text is saying compared to the audio, most of the time Kenny and Scoy say the exact same type of things. And you are correct, the second scene with Eli is only for comedy, no criticism. I too liked that part of the game and the choice that followed! I just thought it made for a funny follow up that kind of fit, but I didn't think of it until after I made the first scene.
