May we be in for a real treat in S3? (regarding E1 & E2 episode length)

Episode 1: Ties that bind

E1 & E2 clearly was just 1 episode cut into 2 parts, they are even named the same and were released together.
The way that E1 ends and E2 hasn't been the case in previous seasons as far as I remember. In S1 only the E5 started from were E4 left off and thats understandable, the same was for S2 E4 & E5. Granted S2 E4 events also took place right after E3 but I am willing to write that off as keeping people in suspense and to give them something to talk about/look forward to. Could say the same about S3 E1 & E2 but I don't see why they would try to keep us in suspense over characters we just met and have almost no emotional attachment whatsoever.

After putting them both together you notice that trailer for S3 included in-game footage from the both episodes. Previous season trailers however only had the in-game footage from first episode.S1 Teaser Trailer had in-game footage of Clems house while Debut Trailer had Macon Drug store (it did have concept art of future episodes but im talking about in-game footage). S2 Reveal trailer - only flashbacks, Full trailer - flashbacks + in-game footage from S2 E1. That E3 (the game event not episode) trailer were Javi is already branded and with Clem, however, breaks the pattern since that was not in-game footage from E1 or E2 but would it be reasonable to assume that they just wanted to show off the new graphics due to the cinematic beginning?

If we look at both episodes as one then no more "next time on twd" doesn't seem that outrageous. Granted you could still do one and previous seasons have shown them even after cliffhangers. Personally I don't miss "next time on twd" but no fitting end credit song after an episode is a huge loss.

Both episodes are also very action packed and give little time for character development. None of the S1 or even S2 "free roam" times were you can just talk to everyone. Could this be because S1 E1 was exactly the opposite and discouraged a lot of people from the game? They saved the action for S3 because this was supposed to be the season that brings in new players? Just a thought.

So in conclusion
I am being optimistic about future episodes. Assuming we won't get totally slapped in the face and the time conserved will actually be added to other episodes we could get a decent amount of character development and all that good stuff. More time for flashbacks perhaps? They could give us more time with Kenny/Jane and have some great moments to somewhat compensate for their lazy deaths. Okay those flashbacks are probably just wishful thinking. Still pretty much all the original writers of S1 and S2 are on board, it can't be that they just suddenly cut the episodes almost in half to milk the series.

Comments

  • Anythings possible at this point.

  • That's what I thought

  • Everything's up in the air.

Telltale most likely knows that we don't appreciate the lazy flashbacks, so they might give us a little something extra.

Clem will probs only be playable in flashbacks for the rest of the season.

  • Yeah I'm hoping that episode 3 is a real whopper of content. They have a lot of stuff to do in episode 3 and I cannot see how they can get it done in one hour. They have to do the David/Javi reunion. That is not something they can wrap up in 5 minutes. Kate - does she survive and the whole thing with David and Javi in regards to her. Gabe's reunion with his dad

They have to deal with Badger and what happened in the episode 1 & 2 with Prescott and Mariana and how David deals with that. More development with Tripp and Eleanor. Then they have to turn to Clem and what the deal is there. I'm guessing she gets caught if you dont go with Conrad's plan. More flashbacks. Have to go deeper into the politics of what is going on around Richmond with Jesus and all that.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is one hell of an episode.
