This is how I feel like Telltale can make the Kenny/Jane situation better

REMINDER: This is my opinion.

Everyone knows about the bullshit flashback sequences. I'm gonna show you how I would've done it.

First off, I would have Kenny become a minor antagonist. Kenny becomes an antagonist because of the beatdown Kenny received back at Howe's. Which gave him brain damage and as a result that made him become someone else entirely. And he would also be part of the New Frontier because as we all know Clementine was also with the New Frontier.

Also, when Clementine runs away from the New Frontier, she would leave AJ behind because she would get killed if she tried to take off with AJ. Which would result in AJ staying with Kenny. Which would've explained why Clem didn't have AJ with her in the present time.

If you choose to go alone after Kenny kills Jane, Kenny would still end up being a minor antagonist in the New Frontier and there would be a small reunion between Clem and Kenny when she joins the New Frontier. This is shown through flashbacks during the season. And AJ would still be in the New Frontier's hands.

However, if you shoot Kenny, Jane would still end up killing herself because of being pregnant and the inability to find abortion pills.

And when the season is about to end Kenny would redeem himself and sacrifice himself for Clementine which leads to a heroic death. This would mirror his scene at Howe's where he sacrifices himself for Clementine and getting beat for it. Alive inside would play because this is the last time we will ever see Kenny.

And if Kenny died in season 2, another major character would sacrifice himself for Clementine (David, maybe?). The major character would still die even if Kenny sacrificed himself for Clem because we all know determinant characters die in Telltale games.

This is my realistic take on how Telltale could've made the Kenny/Jane situation better.

Tell me how you would've improved the Kenny/Jane situation.

  • You still have Jane's death as the same. So not really an improvement

So, how would you improve Jane's death?

I mean, she made it clear that she won't bring a baby into this world. And I made it so that she couldn't find abortion pills so she kills herself. How is that not an improvement?

Telltale getting Jane to kill herself makes sense if you think about it. But they should've made a few small changes.

Nah. The one problem I didn't have with Kenny's death is that they dropped the whole "Kenny turned into a monster" angle. He was actually happy being with Clem and AJ and sacrificed himself so they could get to safety. If you pick the right dialogue, he even says something along the lines of "you're the best second chance a guy could ask for" to Clementine. It was brief as hell, but very fitting to Kenny's character, in my opinion.

Also, as much as I would've loved for Kenny to have a major role in season 3, he was doomed the moment he became determinant unfortunately.

  • I agree with you.

And I hope TTG works on determinant characters to have a more lasting nature, even if it means more challenge in writing.

They did a good job with Doug and Carley. I mean they both wound up dead eventually, but they weren't doomed the next episode or even in the same episode like some characters have been, and their screentime post-determinant status wasn't relegated to background characters who didn't say much. Carley even had a bit of an impact on the story despite her determinant status.

I don't expect Telltale to keep their determinant characters alive forever, but doing what they did with Doug and Carley again would be stellar.

  • That was probably the only good part about Kenny's flashback, seeing him happy again.

But then you know, buckle up.

  • I don't think they were handled as bad as everyone is saying, did anyone actually expect them to live through episode 1 after being determinant?

I didn't expect them to live past episode 1, but I also didn't expect them to be disposed of in the span of 5 minutes. No comment on Jane, but I was hoping Kenny would get an emotional death scene on par with the Wellington ending or his death scene in season 2.

Now, I was a bit of a wreck on my initial playthrough, but that was more of "this is really it for Kenny" hitting me than the scene actually being emotional. Once that wore off on a later playthrough, I made it through the scene dry-eyed.

Of course, with Clementine getting a series of flashbacks throughout the season, I guess I just got my hopes up for Kenny or Jane lasting the whole season in the "flashback story" and getting their death scene in episode 5 rather than episode 1.

Oh well. Like I said, as brief as it was, I made peace with Kenny's death scene because it was nice seeing him happy, even if only for a couple minutes, and it stayed true to his character, him dying to protect Clem and AJ.

  • Jane not wanting to bring a baby into the world is not the same as killing herself. She only cares for herself and Clem, nobody else.

She'd either not have unprotected sex or get rid of the baby after it's born.

  • Here's a bold idea, Telltale puts in the time and effort to make unique and varied changes to the game depending on your ending, and put in the hard work to innovate in narrative storytelling, allowing for a huge amount of interesting depth and replayability.

Allow more time to bond with Jane, learning about her backstory, fleshing out other underused characters from previous seasons, giving Kenny some time to shine and showing scenes with Omid and with Christa, keeping separate from the comics.

Innovating in combat to allow players to Choreograph the fight scenes, and maybe even allow a challenge, more dialogue, more downtime, practical and realistic puzzles (maybe with multiple solutions), better choice stat tracking built into the game instead of on a website that never, ever works for me even though I registered all my games on here through steam.

Gain huge amounts of publicity and positive response from the gaming community due to Telltale putting the time and effort into creating numerous unique branches, which allow for completely different character progression, scenarios and dialogue.

Spend more time working on one product rather than pumping new ones out year after year, maybe spend a few years working on a game? Like most developers? I personally wouldn't mind if the price was higher if it meant a better more polished experience.

I basically consider S3 non canon right now, so I wouldn't mind at all if they retconned the death scenes in some way.
