Why TTG fans like romance so much?

  • You must be fun at parties.

  • I only like romance in these kind of games as long as it's not forced. I need to have the choice if I want it to happen, such as what could have happen between Carley and Lee.

  • Because romance in my real life is pretty much non existant.

  • You the man, Doug.

Carly liked DOUG. She liked ME. There was no implication that Carly liked Lee in a lovey dovey way. I get the chicks - not Lee.

I still believe in true romance in real life and i want it in my games too. I will romance a female in game every chance i get.

  • I liked it back when we had Carley. We had several episodes to get to know her and it wasn't forced at all, hell she was even a determinant character.

Now we have Javi/Kate's awkward kissing sound and animation and this perfect chick Eleanor who just comes out of the woodwork to be the most awesome and helpful person ever for no reason.

  • I feel like people who have this point of view see the zombie apocalypse in video game terms. Its all about going from one mission to another. Surviving instead of really living.

Illogical and stupid? How is it illogical or stupid to pursue a relationship? Is it stupid to be happy? Is it illogical to feel attachment to someone?

  • People ship because its fun and it makes you feel more invested in the characters. Granted, there hasnt been much in the way of relationships in these games that Ive seen. The only one I can think of that has progressed was Rodrick and Gwen from GOT. But again, it mind of helps putting the gamer in the characters shoes when you can see them doing something and human as falling in love.

  • I know, man... I know.

And who people are quick to say is evil, working with the New Frontier, and will die soon because "Die for our ship!"

  • It's definitely his fault, I never cared about shipping until I played Tales :D

  • Yeah because she simply makes no sense so the most plausible reasoning is that she is some ultra undercover villain working for the new frontier.

That is how seriously terrible this season's writers are.

  • I still hope it doesn't happen though, it's really dumb to have pre teens Falling in love, these are kids in an apocalypse, love should be the last thing someone needs to worry about , but I as well, don't see it happening, I'm actually pretty sure Gabes going to die either way hahaha

  • I like having a romance storyline if it is well written, well executed and if the characters have chemistry.

Tbh, I don't see any of those aspects with Javi/Kate or Javi/Eleanor. Whilst Kate may have feelings for Javi, I think Javi loves her without being in love with her. I think the flirting between him and Eleanor was a one time thing and I don't see their relationship going into a romantic direction. Javi is just a smooth, flirty guy I guess?

I don't get any romantic vibes / potential crushes between Gabe and Clem and so I won't comment on that.

I wasn't a fan of Bruce and Selina either (although that might be because I didn't like the latter as a character). I was hoping for a Bruce and Vicki angle before... well. I liked the tension between Bigby and Snow and I shipped Jesse and Lukas.

For me a big thing is also that I have to like the characters before I can ship them. Hence why I don't ship Javi and Eleanor.

  • I can agree with that for the most part, what I disagree with is just me thinking about the whole "safety in numbers" side of things.

    Ayy spoilers lmao:

Lee's group mostly fell apart because of others or just shitty situations (the St. Johns, Lilly shooting Doug or Carley, the stranger kerfuffle.
Same for S2 really. They were on the run from Carver, the incident at the lodge left up to 3 people dead (not to mention the Matthew incident). It mainly went downhill at the fault of others.

I realize after writing this, that this further proves your point. XD

  • It's a really good action game but if I'm honest it's lacking in story. I didn't really get attached to characters until the second game.

  • I like seeing romance in games because I think it's a great way to improve on a relationship between 2 characters. Sometimes, it even makes me care for the characters themselves.

  • yeah I liked her but I didn't want to enage in any romance with her, even just trying to be nice my lee was putting the moves on her regardless.

Well I'm a sucker for romance. People just enjoy romance, it's as simple as that. Look at Bioware's games. It actually really bothers me how forced that romantic dialogue is with Carley.

  • it's not just telltale. there are other companies that implement romance better into their games. like dragon age, mass effect, and the witcher, to name a few. if written properly, it adds another interesting layer to the story. there are fans everywhere who enjoy it.

  • The Norway scene was so cringey. At that point, everything is just a joke to you if you can make comments like that while dying, with a group member who has been taken and possibly killed by some bandits. Very Hollywood-esque.

And yeah, the whole Javier/Kate relationship is hella forced. Been saying that for a while now. It just doesn't need to be there, and it's pretty obvious where it's heading. We literally cannot tell her to fuck off, so Kate's gonna sing like a canary to David and a war's gonna erupt. Boo.

  • idk y u saying No like ur going to decide as clem... tbh as long as clem is happy with Gabe then I will not mind

Poor Clem. Fuck honestly, I wish I could apply for a job at TTG, sometimes I just think I could save them from what they've put themselves in. Of course that would never happen, but XD I can still dream!

  • Maybe it will play into Season 3?

That's the only thing I could think of, besides other future episodes.
But yeah, it does seem strange that they basically force you to go for Kate, which I have no interest in. Other people though, well, let's not talk about it cough Javi..laid cough some people are apparently are into that thing.

Maybe they think it attaches you more to a character that will have a larger role in the future, (e.g Carly/Doug) Clem may end up with Gabe at the end of this side season.

I think Gabe and Clem would be great as friends, not as "partners", Clem could teach Gabe, but Clem has become a very Lone Wolf survivor, an

  • lol I was part of Rhysha, obviously, in 2014 for TFTBL but in TWD hell no, or at least not in ANF. The characters aren't even likable in s3 and I honestly hate Kate and Gabe. If they do any more forced romance here I'm gonna be fucking pissed, and especially if it's with Clem.

  • Well they don't force you. You can reject every one of Kate's advances.

  • Using the terms lightly, romance and infatuation=death sentence in TWD. No one is permitted to have happiness, it seems. From memory:

    Doug
    Carley
    Lee
Larry (had charm coming right out of his...!)
    Walter and Matthew
    Omid and Christa
    Alvin and Rebecca
    Luke
Bonnie (something implied with Luke and Leland)
    Kenny
    Jane
    Francine and Conrad

No doubt more will be added to the list in the future.

  • I don't do romance in video games or even real life not a part of my character

  • I still remember when I used to love him like I do with Javi now lol

  • Well personally since noone knows my name and/or origins here, I daresay that it's because my love life is as disastrous as fk. Been cheated on and all that shit, and I just live my love life in video games, because they don't fuck over the protagonist.

Wow that sounded too edgy. You asked the question though, it may make your eyes bleed. You've been warned.

  • But Kate can keep coming at you with flirty, romantic type stuff even if you reject her (e.g. going to Norway when going up to TNF gates) each time which is annoying.

I want to be the guy who says romance isn't needed in the game. That the characters should be more focused on the ever growing difficulty of simply surviving in a world of torment and cruelty, where everyday could be your last. Unfortunately, I can't, because I'm actually quite a shameless sucker for a bit of romance...

Granted, I seriously don't want to see some awkward and forced romance between Clementine and that thing, Gabe. Because, I mean, really, Gabe's seriously fuckin annoying.

  • Basically. There isn't one other to get it with. There isn't any other choice, unless (hopefully) they add in the next episodes that you can get with Eleanor. Personally, I would much rather choose who I woo in a game rather be forced to romance one character.

But Kate can keep coming at you with flirty, romantic type stuff even if you reject her (e.g. going to Norway when going up to TNF gates) each time which is annoying.

  • I personally only like romance if it's done right and nicely deveopled. Not something that is rushed or us as the audience are forced to see.
That's why I don't really ship Javi and Kate. For me, I find them to be a little too forced.

With Gabe and Clementine, I don't want that either. That's something I definitely don't want to see. I'm probably one of the few people that like Gabe and ready to see how the game explores his character... but Clementine in a relationship is just not needed. Especially after she's lost so much, I don't think she's ready to get that personal and intimate with someone.

Carley and Lee were the couple I was enjoyed seeing be developed. It wasn't forced for me.
