Things that bother me in ANF Ep 1 and 2

To start off , it's how Javier and his family survived 4 years without getting separated or killed. And also how the hell did Mariana survive for this long? Javier just tells her to run and hide. That honestly wouldn't have worked for 4 years straight. Also her death wasn't that shocking to me because she didn't really get enough screentime for me to care that much. Still was a suprise but I felt like her death seemed like a copy and paste from (SPOILER) Micbhonne Mini-series where Sam's dad died. Another thing about Ep 1 is the flashbacks. All of them are badly written in my opinion. I had the flashback with Kenny and I wondered why he decided to go all the way down to Florida to get on a boat. And the fact that after every flashback Clementine ends up in the exact same path. I feel like Telltale is making this game into linear path instead of extending into branching possibilities.

Now Ep 2. I've noticed things that really don't make much sense. At the start of Ep 2 where I make the choice of surrendering, Conrad says "thank you" and I thought that would change how he interacts with Javier later on. But instead he says later on to Javier "this is all your fault." Like seriously? You thank someone for dealing with them and then you blame them for having them come after you? That's bad writing. Also in the flashback where Clem meets a member in the New Frontier. She asks Clem if she wants to join the New Frontier. I had Clementine say no. In the present she says "I should have told you earlier but I joined the New Frontier."

These problems shouldn't happen for a choice based game.

Kate wanting to get "laid" while smokin' a doobie, and Gabe whining and not able to hold a gun steady, Mari praying for a candybar instead of safety ...

...are we even sure that we are still in the apocalypse?

  • I'm sure Kate isn't the only one who smokes weed during an apocalypse. As for Gabe and Mari I think they weren't given enough screentime or they just weren't developed well enough.

  • Yeah it is just getting sloppy and lazy and everybody can tell.

  • Yea and isn't it cool how after each flashback you skip a huge amount of time in game? Almost like TellTale is fucking lazy and just doesn't care anymore.

  • You're right, not TT's best work. With Javier and his family, they are basically plucking a family from right after the WD virus starts and then drops them years in. And so all their dialogue and character development comes off bizarre because it feels like the stuff you'd expect from season 1. It's made even worse since they keep bumping into people who fit the reality and time of season 3. It's like they fell through a time machine. It'd be better if all of them were more like Clem, not these dainty wussies who listen to headphones and pout about the woman who has raised them in the middle of hell for not being their real mommy.

  • That's why in My thread, I asked if Telltale could create some kind of DLC/spin off just like in 400 days that tells how Javi, Kate and the kids survived all those four years. It'll be interesting and nice to see the 4 of them wearing plot armors in it. :^)
