Should Naughty Dog make TWD games instead of TTG?

Imagine a TWD game with the graphics and writing of The Last of Us with plenty of open areas to inspect and interact with characters.

  • Eh, I dont think its fair to write off Telltale just yet, just because they had a rocky start with season 3, Telltale are the ones that brought us season 1 and 2 of TWD after all, and theyre great, I also think that TLoU and TWD is 2 very different beasts, besides, who would make The Last of Us if Naughty Dog didnt? :P

  • Isn't that basically the Last of Us tho?

They're two completely different game styles, NaughtyDog mainly makes games with much more gameplay and although they have good stories I don't think they're as good as TWD in that field. I like TTG because of the little amounts of running, jumping and shooting gameplay and prefer that it's 100% story based.

I just feel like if they tried to incorporate more actual gameplay they'll miss out on opportunities for good story progression, besides, more gameplay could potentially mean less story and less dialogue options. Think about it, if all of the gameplay that didn't add much to TLOU story were removed the game would be far shorter.

  • Pretty much the only game they re getting bad at writing Is TWD since you known they just Finished Batman which had some pretty good writing and most likely Guardians of the galaxy will be good too so i think the company probably just doesnt known how to handle TWD anymore.

  • That's what'll make it good

Isn't that basically the Last of Us tho?

  • After having played the last of us...I respectfully disagree. Was bored in places...how many pallets can there be....good God I think I killed more humans than the plague did. Wrong young girl died...Ellie was annoying...Sarah died...another example of wrong child dying.

Ending was stupid and made the entire adventure pointless.

  • Absolutely not.

  • Yeah but those episodes were from different writers, writers that didn't have their head stuck in the ground.

  • I love Naughty Dog and TLOU, but that definetly wouldn't work

    Lol, no.

  • Yes but they would have made it exclusive to Playstation 4.

    That's Joel's development. And it's not a cliche.

No it didn't. If it wasn't like this, there would have been no sequel for this masterpiece. Saving the world is one of the most cliched endings in video game history.

  • No. The Last of Us was in development since 2009 and The Walking Dead was since 2011-2012. Both have no connection. There is a TWD easter egg in TLOU though.

I killed more humans than the plague did.

Because at first you think you're doing it for the greater good (getting Ellie to the fireflies and create a vaccine), and that it's of the biggest importance that they make it and Ellie survives. It is not until almost at the end of the game that Joel shows his true colors though, making you think about what you have done.

Ending was stupid and made the entire adventure pointless.

How so? This story is about relationships, and not about being a hero and saving humanity. Joel starts as a non-caring person (after Sarah died), and transitions into a person who ones again would do anything for the person he loves, not wanting to again go through what he did when Sarah died. And Ellie changes from a somewhat happy person (learning who to whistle, reading puns), to become more downbeat after everything she's been through, and wanting to be sacrificed for the sake of humanity because of her survivors guilt after so many around her has died, while she herself is immune. And Joel denying her that and lying about what happened because of his selfish reasons, putting an enormous strain on the relationship they have built during their journey, making this ending great in my opinion.

And yes, there's too many pallets.

After having played the last of us...I respectfully disagree. Was bored in places...how many pallets can there be....good God I think I kil

  • You might as well not have taken the trip...because in the end there is no cure...could have just said..hey you are immune to the disease? Cool...lets blow off this journey. Same outcome except Tess is alive.

Hell it is like Riders of the Lost Ark that way...if Indiana Jones did nothing...it would have ended the same way. Nazis get killed by ghosts.

With the power of hindsight, sure. Within that world it would've been better for them as people. But as a story, no, since this trip is what drives the plot and the character development.

  • Seems like you didn't get the game at all. Killing more humans was the point, they were the really dangerous one's.

And Ellie is one of the best characters in gaming (far better than Clem too), Sarah surviving would have been cliche and she was boring.

  • Thats my dream

  • Now that Uncharted and The Last of Us are going to be completely finished in the foreseeable future, Naughty Dog will have enough time to think about another big franchise. The Walking Dead wouldn't be too bad in my opinion, because we all know how good story/dialogue-based games from ND are.

Sure, Telltale did a great job with Season 1&2 of TWD, but let's be real. A New Frontier has shown us how massively the quality of this game-series dropped down, even though only the first "two" episodes have been released so far. You can see the bad things in all the little details, as well as we getting information that the storyline is a complete mess if Telltale is scrapping and re-writing stuff on a daily basis. They have no idea what they are doing and barely get anything release-worthy together. It's very sad that it has come this far.

  • The Last of Us is their walking dead game. I rather have Telltale keep making their own Walking Dead game.

  • Well you are wrong...and no killing people was not the point...it was just that the stealth mechanics in the game sucked so much ass you had to kill all those people. And no...Ellie was not is no and never will be...she was annoying as fuck.

I'd rather not start moving towards a future where Naughty Dog develops everything, so I'm going to say no

I mean, they're pretty cool and all, but where would the in that be? It'd be like if Shakespeare wrote the entire literary canon of the human race.

That being said however, I'm not against having another dev take the reigns from Telltale for a little while, at least until some things sort themselves out

  • I like Naughty Dog but even they have limits, heck I can even guess they wouldn't want to do TWD. Besides they have TLoU, it's as good or BETTER than TWD, no offense to the TWD fans but I respect the games too, well... expect for ANF

  • No. Because those psn exclusive turds would not let other platform users play it.

  • These are subjective opinions and yet you say them as if they are objectve facts, this is the trump era

Well you are wrong...and no killing people was not the point...it was just that the stealth mechanics in the game sucked so much ass you had to kill all those people. And no...Ellie was not is no and never will be...she was annoying as fuck.

  • Naughty Dog is the best developer in the business. Neil Druckmann is the best writer/director in gaming. They have the most detail oriented art department.

The gameplay wouldnt be the same as TLOU or Uncharted. They change gameplay for franchises so I don't see why they would be incapable of creating mechanics that work for TWD. They also experimented with dialogue choices in U4.

Thing is, naughty dog makes IPs. So I doubt they would even accept the opportunity. (Bethesda turned down Asoiaf license to focus on Elder Scrolls)

  • Sure. A great developer working on a great franchise. I don't see anything wrong with that.

  • I don't think NDs fast, action-orientated Gameplay pairs good with the slow Walkers and the (slightly) more peaceful survivor groups, which are open to talk about things. Also, I still hope for something like 400 Days by Telltale, cause 400 Days was AWESOME.
Besides, The Last Of Us is probably my most favoured game of all times, so they should stick to that.
