Telltale should've sold the first two parts as one single episode
I literally have no idea why they wouldn't do this. Ever since Season Two fans have been complaining about the lack of 2+ hour episodes. So what do they do? Just shovel out two 1 hour episodes and make a big thing of how "we're releasing two episodes on launch", misleading fans to believe that we were gonna get a lot of content, which we honestly didn't. I mean it doesn't even make sense thematically to split them up, sure it would've made a good end point, but if you connect the episodes together then it'd be a good sign of things to come, that they're listening to fans and improving by having a decent length time for the first episode.
Now one argument against this could be, "It still wouldn't fix the writing." Which to be fair, though I think ANF is decent (please don't kill me, I'm loyal to Season One, I swear), though this might not be the same for everyone, I think just having a longer playtime gets you to spend longer with the characters, getting to like them better and look over their flaws and not be distracted by what could be dragging down the episode.
For example, let's say The Walking Dead: Season One was ten episodes, each being around an hour or so long, maybe 90 minutes for some and they went
Episode 1: Part 1
Episode 1: Part 2
Episode 2: Part 1
Episode 2: Part 2
and so on...
Wouldn't you start to realise a lot of the flaws early on or feel some disconnect/disassociation with the characters since you're only really interacting with them in these short bursts as you wait a month or so for the next part to come out? It wouldn't feel like something tightly written, it'd just feel odd and the pacing would be way off, even if Season One was written as it is now.
And I know the obvious excuse as to why Telltale released these two parts, because they don't have to make five episodes if they can just split one down the middle. Which just leads me to believe, if they clearly don't enjoy making this series, then why is there even a third season?
I don't know, it's just something that baffles me.
Maybe they did this all along because Episode 3 is going to be a 2-3 hour hub filled, slickly written, intense and character-driven episode that will shock us all...Yeah that isn't gonna happen.

We got cheated out of an episode by them splitting ties that bind, the two together aren't even that long, long enough to satisfy a customer I'd say, but not long enough to have to divide into two.
If only we lived in a world where people didn't become sellout cash cows
I am fairly positive toward ANF, but I can agree that splitting the episode in two parts wasn't a good idea. It just sends a wrong message.
But we shall see how the upcoming episode 3 will be. For some reason, as I replayed Episode 1 and 2, I get the impression that the writers were really in a rush to get Javier to Prescott and meet up with David.
This. Why Telltale?
This season is so half-assed what was the point of making this? Episode 3 will most likely also be shit just like Episode 1 and 2, and don't forget to split it into three parts each being 45 minutes long. Episode 1 and 2 were shorter than Tales Ep5 or S1 Ep4 combined.
Worst Telltale game yet. So many flaws which probably won't be fixed at all.
They fucking cheated on us and for what? "Too Big" is one of the worst excuses they could have used. They even said it will be the biggest season they have done so far and what did we get?
Episode 3 is the last chance I give to them. After the rewritting, if it still ends up as shit, TWD A New Frontier will probably be the last Telltale game I played.
I see ur points man... honestly i believe (or hope) ep3 will revive this series. they took double my money aswell, £5.19 for each episode, so pretty much i paied £10 for one episode... shameful.. ITFOO 3ALHUM!
anyway, ep 3 does look promising after the trailer, i am however now scared for game of thrones season 2...
Telltale after reading this thread:
I won't be surprised if Asher and Rodrik get the same treatment.
Your post was too long man. Shoulda split it in 2.
Nah still too long. He should have split the text in four pieces and release the last piece in a month.
My eyes are too big to read what you said. I should split them in two. Oh wait...
Both Ties That Bind episodes combined are shorter than S1's Around Every Corner. This is severe.
How else they gonna sell 4 episodes of content for 5? smh
What if it's actually just 2 episodes worth of content?
Episode 2 was so yuge, about 150 minutes long, so they split it in 3.
But then I would get Numb Butt, you can't ask me to sit still for more then 90 minutes, I can't handle that level of physical inactivity. Who plays a video game for more than 1 hour?
Or maybe 3 months later. Make sure the readers can properly digest the previous 4 parts.
Careful, you don't want to literally become a four eyes. That would just be painful. And you would probably would end up blind. And it'd probably look spooky.
I'm not holding out any hope they'll ever return to Game of Thrones for Season 2. Following the releases of Borderlands and GoT, they both had cliff hanger endings. Rather than release a second season of either, Telltale moved on with Batman and Guardians of the Galaxy. There could have also been another release of Wolf Among Us. There's no real shortage of film noir story lines.
What would people's reaction be if telltale made season 3 only 4 episodes instead of 5?? I'm curious
Get over it; it was two parts and an average episode time of one hour for both (and yes, if you look at recent games, they are now making it one hour).
Get over it.
From what Telltale has told us it's all about finishing the episode in one sitting. The original episode was too big for that apparently and thus the split. Expect similar lengths in future episodes.
Now anybody who's ever actually played a video game knows that's a load of bullshit and it's just PR speak. It's just appealing to youtubers who can advertise their games and make less content while charging more money.
Don't you "Get over it" us like this. Defending a game that has been in development for 2 years doesn't help because Telltale had tons of chances to improve themselves.
As long as the episodes take more than 2 hours, it would have been fine with 4 episodes.
They won't ever read this thread, or take in our opinions, so it won't matter sadly.
Real fans
I feel like telltale split the episode into 2 becuase they were afraid of people's reaction of having 4 episodes instead of 5....I think
So they're cowards. That makes sense.

"Get over it" - amazing argument.
Ouch.
tfw you work for ttg and you made the 90 minute rule but then you see everyone played both S3 episodes 1&2 in one sitting and you're tying to calculate how they managed to sit and play for that long.
mistake, ignore this comment
Most recent episode of batman clocked in at 95 minutes, episode 3 clocked in at around 110 minutes, episode 2 clocked in at around 120 minutes. TWD S1 averaged 180 minutes, season 2 averaged at 90/100 minutes. Then, 60 minutes for season 3 (I finished in 50) is fucking awful and I won't "get over it" when they cut the content in half without even considering cutting the price.
Real fans don't count, their money don't spend, and their hands are too small.
New fans, now that's where the real actions at.
Telltale has lost their way man. And I doubt they will turn things around.
They've only lost they're way on the walking dead. The other series they've done have been executed quite well.
