The stereotype was she doesn't sound like the typical Chinese serving foods in the restaurants lol.

From this comment written by Walkingdeadfan1911: "Her voice doesn't match her looks AT ALL."

So he is basically telling she should sound like a stereotype Asian..

  • This time, she is the one who deserves to die by getting devoured.

Awaiting her death scene, hopefully its simaler to normas

  • I prefer spinach, that's the reason Popeye is the strongest man in the world. Fuck that bitch. I hope David shot her in my game.

  • Maybe she is allergic to spinach. If thats the case, I'll make her eat spinach before killing her.

I bet she's Eleanor's mother, and that Eleanor has that scarf around her neck all the time because her neck has the New Frontier symbol on it.

  • Joan seems like Norma all over again but with weird logic. I don't get how raiding other communities is justifiable in her head, the game tries to have it be a reasonable and understandable thing since the Lingard and Clint side with her, and there's even a dialogue option that says "She's got a point." To me, she sounds like a female Governor, he did the same thing, killing other groups for supplies. I think she's actually the worst villain TellTale have had so far.

  • Yea I know you didn't. But you were implying it ;)

Never said he was racist lol

  • Uh...she's incredibly boring and forgettable like every other character in this story.

  • EXACTLY. this.

Nothing special villain wise at least not yet hopefully they don't off her in the next episode, Telltales villains typically don't get a lot of screen time so they end up being less memorable as a result.

    Joan is not physically intimidating.
She looks like a standard old friendly lady.

But it seems she is the brains of the community. She is clever and have very manipulating skills.
She probably used to be a very decent woman, and one of the founders of the New Frontier.
I think people respect her because she did lots for the community to build up, feed and dress up it's citizens. And her job is to communicate with other communities so she is probably some kind of a business woman/diplomat. Perhaps she has a past of being a mother figure/care taker for the New Frontier. We see at first Clint and Lingard are horrified about what Joan did, but she used her silver tongue to convince them what she did was right for the community to survive.
This remind me of our politicians today, but in a zombie apocalypse lol. A lot of our politicians have blood on their hands but acting like decent peoples.
I think Joan is a very different type of villain. It is usually the obvious scary sadistic white villains in the video games like Carver and Randall/Norma who only want to show they live to bully and scare peoples, and just need to be knocked out.

Joan just care much about her community and she is thinking it is legite to raid other towns.
She thinks it is better other peoples suffer than hers.
In my book she is a more realistic villain in an apocalyptic world. Nice to be an old Asian lady instead of the stereotype white agressive big muscled men.

The men she used to do the raids are rough characters like Badger and Lonnie. But as Luke mentioned in Season 2, even the bandits are longing to have a family. Assuming they all lost their family, Joan became like a mother to those thugs, telling them what to do to survive.

She is like a Hillary Clinton, but in a Zombie Apocalypse lol.

  • I hope they don't kill her like they did with Carver and Norma for the difference. This will be very boring. She should last until the end of the Season. Perhaps she will be abandoned, or be jailed like Rick did with Negan in the comics.

Yeah, I'm so happy she's not just yet another Evil and/or Sick White Man. Michelle, Arvo, and Norma came close, though.

  • Plot Twist: Joan is Eleanor's mother. They both look a like, which is very interesting...

I don't really think anything. I guess there's room for her to be given more character.

PS, in my game she hasn't really admitted to doing anything wrong

  • Short sighted is my impression of her.

Yes the raids have gotten them supplies but without those other communities out there then there is no other fall back option.

Negan had it right. Raid those communities for supplies, keep them scared, give them enough to keep surviving and supplying you.

  • Shady bitch

I think that Joan is very smart, clever, and manipulative, which makes her all the more "frightening" because she doesn't act like the typical villain. She doesn't exactly scream crazy like Carver did for me in Season 2.

  • I don't know... right now I feel like she's a mix of Brenda and Norma hah. I hope Telltale develop her more so she can be a well-written character with some qualities added to her flaws. I don't like villains who are 100% evil, that's too cheesy to me, as if we were in an old cartoon or something. I don't want Telltale to give us a Carver 2.0 where the villain is just cruel and kills their own allies because they're weak. I'm trusting you, TTG. Make Joan a great character please.

  • I actually like this theory!
