Do you still feel disconnected from Javier's group?
Even though Clementine is useless in ANF, do you still feel disconnected to Javier and his group compared to your connection to the Motel and Cabin groups from S1 and 2?

Yes
From the whole group? Yes. From the Garcia family? No.
Kate, Gabe, and Conrad are the only ones I've ever felt a connection with.
Sadly, yeah. It feels almost as if we're kind of still strangers to the group, and with only one episode left in the season, it's kind of difficult to imagine the stakes being raised too high when we know so little about them.
I did really like the intro to Thicker than Water, though, with David and Javi at the batting cages. Stuff like that goes a long way to helping us feel more for the characters.
I'm waiting till ANF is over to play Episode 1-5, and I was wondering as of Ep 4 how is Clementine so far play wise? has she improved?
Unfortunately, yes. The Motel group will forever be my favorite and the cabin group at least had people to connect with in some way. With Javier's family, they're just boring and like an average, typical family you see on TV (Javi and Kate are the two annoying parents, Gabe is the average teenage boy with hormones, and Mari is the laid back daughter.)
She's only playable for 1-2 minutes an episode in flashbacks.
You can only still play Clem in flashbacks.
But role-wise, I think her role in this season has improved.
Could you explain how you think her role has improved in the season? She disappears for half the episodes and randomly reappears for nonreason other than writing convenience and 1 minute trivial flashbacks and contributes nothing to the plot. The only notable thing she did is talk about her period in EP4.
Tbh, yes. I just don't care about anyone of them expect for Javier and Clementine. They all could die and I would be like: "Eh, that can happen sometimes. Whatever, NEXT SCENE PLZ!"
I never felt connected to ANF's group to begin with.
Cabin Group was the one I felt the most comfortable in, I've attached to them pretty quickly.
Motel group is still my number 1. It had Lee, Kenny and Clementine. The perfect trio.
On the other hand I absolutely disliked almost everyone from Season Two. Only Clem, Kenny and his people were the light that made the second season bearable to me.
Javi, Kate and Mariana are/were great characters that I like.. Gabe could be likable as well if he wasn't a failure in person. Eleanor and Tripp can go to hell.
I think her role in ANF is more natural and realistic.
I loved Season 2, but her role in Season 2 was very very unrealistic, she apeared like some 11-year old kid with supernatural powers and an adult mind.
Natural in that she's just there with no purpose? Disappears and reappears for no reason? Somehow she's still with Javier when she should/could have left the group?
Natural because she makes mistakes and finally appears like a 13-year old girl.
For me there is enough Clem in ANF.
I enjoy playing Javi or Lee more than some unrealistic super kid.
If you understood the 4th episode well, Clem needs people to be around.
She needs family to go on and trust. Javi suits that role. You can see her bonding with Javi when she trusted him with insecurities about her first period and some very close talks about the past how she already felt a mom. She follows Javi no matter how you treated her. Even at the times when she wasn't aware of AJ still alive she returned to Javi to help him. We see in episode 4 flasback Ava adviced Clem to find good peoples again to move on with her life, and she did what Ava told her.
So no way she is leaving Javi. Perhaps when he dies she will. And he will help her find AJ.
Episode 4 was about to think who is family..Clem finally found new family.
You might think she is tough, strong and independant.
It must be very scary to walk around alone in a very dark dangerous world as a 13 year old girl.
The fact is she is still a scared lonely kid longing to have family.
It looked like Clem wanted to prove Javi she is a very valuable girl to have around.. like stupid Gabe want to prove Javi he is a man.
Even the annoying kid Gabe made Clem happy.
Gabe reminds me of real life nephews with adhd.
So to me his story is very real and touching.
Sadly, yes. There was no real time to make any connection with Javiers family because the connection was already established well before we took over as him, unlike previous seasons, so any decision making feels forced in the sense that I'm expected to like and side with his family over anyone else. And I'm simply not going to do this, because if I'm being given a choice then its mines to make, and I really don't care what Javier would realistically choose. It's pretty much left the entirety of the Garcia family flat, since other than David there's no real feeling of the relationship is mines to build since they all started out all buddy buddy. The other characters receive so little attention by comparison that I simply can't really feel anything close to what I felt towards the Motel or Cabin groups.
Where in seasons 1 and 2 there were people I'd go out of my way to save if the scenario presented myself, I really wouldn't care if everyone but Clem died in ANF.
The flashback(s) in episode four are much longer.
I did feel disconnected, until I played episode 4. The characters felt so much more human and realistic. I felt so attached to all the characters. Javi, Kate, Gabe, Clem, David...
Gabe has became an awesome character to me, and Clem was finally smiling again! And that scene with Javi and Kate in the truck was perfect, Kate's voice actress did a great job at making it feel so realistic. I love all the characters.
After episode four, I think I like the cast for ANF better than S2.
They are only by a little bit.
Yes. I only care about Clem (Episode 4 made me care about Javi just a little, but not enough to feel sad if he dies) right now. Motel group was the best, cabin group was still decently good, this group... nope - I feel nothing.
Not at all. I never felt disconnected.
I don't think anything will ever top the connection I felt to the motel group, but that also goes for a lot of things I felt out about S1.
With ANF, I feel like I am as invested with Javi's group as I was the cabin group.
Take Gabe for instance... I don't like him, but he is well-written and I like the complexities in his relationship with Javi. Similar to Ben and Nick, he is well intentioned but has the tendency to screw up. He's a completely different character to them both however and his behaviour isn't explained away as just "he's a teenager" (Ben) or "he's taking it hard because his mum passed away / this is just his nature" (Nick). He was so young when the apocalypse happened, he wants to emulate his father, and perhaps Mariana's death has also had an impact on him. Plus, even though he can be a liability to have around, he's your nephew and so the dynamic with you two is much more different than what Lee/Ben or Clem/Nick had.
Kate, Conrad / Ava and David (the remaining group members) are all distinct, well defined characters with clear goals and complex relationships with Javi. Whilst I can't say the same for Jesus or Eleanor who were just there, I am invested in the others.
I think the big difference between the motel group in s1 and the current group now is that we actually had the ability to walk around and explore different optional dialogue in s1 with each character allowing us to feel more connected to them. In ANF, we dont really get that making it hard to get that character development, especially with such short episodes.
I don't care about any of these new people really. Javi and David are the only two registering for me at all and even that ain't much.
I'm not connected to these people in the slightest. It doesn't help that they're all fucking emotionaly crazy and will flip on you in a second. I also don't know them on a personal level outside their stereotypical role in the group. Any chance to get to know them gets brushed over. Like Tripp talking about his car as if it was his baby, but that line was about it. The car gets abandoned and we never hear about it or anything like it again. Clem feels like a different/worse character now, I don't want to get to know the Garcia family thanks to their dumb character traits, and side characters do not get enough attention. I feel nothing when these characters die (I do not want to feel this way, but I can't force it).
Definitely no connection like Season 1 crew, doesnt help that half the crew has barely been on screen the last 2 episodes.
The only one I was starting to be interested in was Ava, but... well...
I think Javier would of worked better as a side character then at least I might connect with Javier
Kate reminds me one of my friends and Gabe reminds me every teenage boy ever. I like Javier's group, especially now with David and Ava.
I feel connected to Kate the most, followed by David, Gabe and Conrad. While I prefer Tripp and Eleanor to some of them, after 4 episodes we still know next to nothing about them.
Yeah. It's funny because Christa and Omid appeared so late in the game in Season 1 and I still connected with them 1000x faster than I have with anyone in this group, apart from Javi and Clem.
That's insinuating that I ever felt a solid connection in the first place.
Part of the reason for that is that Christa and Omid were clearly designed to appeal to the group's needs at the time, Christa had a very subtle arc in the following episode, and both played necessary roles as buffers for the remaining three to bounce their thoughts off of.
I don't feel connected to the group or javier's family. Imo this group is the worse group in twd series. Clem is in a group of her own. Therefore I'm not going to factor her into javier's group.
Yep! This has been a huge problem for years. Season 2 was just as bad for not giving us the option to connect with the characters in that game although it was a damn sight better than the shit in this season 3 game.
Like others have said, the fact in Season 1 we could talk to each character, ask him/her questions, things about their background lives, their personality differences etc. We have nothing like that anymore. I do not care about any of the new characters. It was the same for me with the cabin group
Lol i don't! She has become a shadow of her former self thanks to Telltales shit writing of her character in this season
Yeah. I only care about Tripp to be honest.
yup
No more than I did from the season 2 gang. And honestly, if I stop looking through rose colored glasses, I wasn't all that fond of most of the season 1 gang either. Just like every time, I care about one or two characters from the group.
The problem with ANF is that we are dealing with a family and because we are dealing with a family we are supposed to care for them, one minor problem though I DONT care for them, at all! And so this derails everything because characters I don't give two shits about are constantly taking up precious screentime while the characters that might actually have interesting development are constantly shoved to the side, not to mention we have to deal with flashbacks so we can learn even more about their uninteresting pre-established relationships.
No Telltale I don't want to be annoyed by Gabe for 45 minutes while he constantly tells me I'm a shitty person, no Telltale I don't want endless Kate and David flashbacks because you think the game needs more boring family drama.
