What are your thoughts on Telltale's TWD: A New Frontier

Based on what I've seen so far, I just think it's not a Season 3 game: because it seems more focused on Javier rather than Clem.

Also, do decisions from season 2 carry-over to the season 3 game? I've seen some dialogues that are somewhat referring to the season 2 story but I don't know if they were actually carried over, like that of Clem mentioning about Kenny killing Carver with a crowbar, will her dialogue be different if you didn't choose to crowbar Carver?

  • No, s2 doesn't change up s3 at all unless you think scars on face and few dialogue changes counts.

Theres one dialogue that goes "I had a friend that took a crowbar to someone"

  • I think of it more as a parody of TWD than as a sequel or a tie in game. Its like a Weird Al Yankovich video game.

Some decisions do carry over, but they mostly just effect dialogue, a few can effect a scene in a bigger way, but that is rare. But they do nothing to inform a character. Or change the peredetermined path the story is on. Our choices still mean fuck all in the end.

  • Lackluster, poorly written, inconsistent characters, poorly paced, underwhelming and a cop-out product. In regards to clementine she's just a model telltale designs and puts in the game that is known as clementine in name and appearance only for half assed fanservice and serves no purpose with no significance or meaning. But clementine did have her moment of mass praise when discussing her period to a man she's known 3 days.

It's... a pretty damn shit game. It's an insult to the Walking Dead franchise. If you thought S2 was bad, this one is worse in every way except graphics (but that is subjective). Poorly written game with choices from previous seasons barely mattering. ANF is a disappointing """"sequel"""" if you can even call it a sequel (new protagonist also doesn't help). The new protagonist is a bland, "oh look a 'strong' man" that no one asked for. This isn't S3 - this is a shitty, poorly written, underwhelming side story (disguised as a proper TWD installment) where Clementine isn't a main character (nor playable) anymore. She doesn't contribute much to the plot. You can remove her and literally nothing will change. You won't feel any attachments to characters because of the lack of hubs (even less than S2) and the lack of character development. Gameplay is literally non-existent now with a few quick-time events and episodes are becoming shorter and shorter. If you thought S2 episodes were short (90+ minutes), you'll be disappointed with this because episodes this """season""" (I refuse to call it a season) are only 70 - 80 minutes long (with Episode 2 60 minutes long).

Season 2 is a masterpiece compared to this. Even Steam reviews show this (S1-97%, S2-96%, ANF-77% and still dropping with every front page review being negative - hell even Michonne has a higher rating).

TL;DR: If you loved S1 and S2, don't purchase this one. Watch it on YouTube instead.

  • Everyone complained about Season 2 being bad, but comparing it to ANF, Season 2 looks heckin' perfect.

It legit makes me miss Season 2, no matter how poorly written it could be.

  • quess thats why its the "New Frontier"

Their biggest mistake I believe was changing to a new never before seen playable character completely without atleast slowly demoting Clem to 50% of the time as playable. It's quite hard caring much for the Garcia's family. & Almost All choices involving Clem are heavily lopsided for pro -Clementine, most would even save Clem over Javi and his whole family in any instant. This season feels so detached from everything else that it may as well had been a spin off.

Television show has surpassed the games as far as story goes. But then again they have Kirkman and the comic to lean on throughout. Fear might of been a better comparison.

  • Pictures like the one in the OP make me butthurt that Telltale checked the "Clem is a playable character along with Javier" box in the most BS way possible. Not even a Tales from the Borderlands 50/50 split, nope just all Javier for present story telling. That's really my only huge beef with ANF.

Well they had to try and half ass pander to their fans somehow, right?.

  • Did Clem ever had her finger cut? if yes, is it determinant?

It was always discussed in the trailer posters, but i didn't seem to notice it in some people's youtube let's plays.

  • Finger cut off if you have alone ending,

Scar on cheek if you have Wellington ending,

Scar on forehead if you have Kenny ending.

  • Anyone else think Kate survived the truck crash? I'm thinking maybe she jumped out before the truck bumped into the wall.

  • She's alive no doubts.

  • I have no problem playing as Javier, I think I'm actually starting to like his character, however, the episodes are so short that you barely get any character development. Clementine turned into a completely different person, I don't remember her like this in S2. The rest of Garcias family....honestly I don't really care whats gonna happen to them. I would be suprised if TTG would make another season of this game after this season. It might be a better idea if they don't make another one.

  • Its not as good as the first two seasons but its still enjoyable.

  • I think they'll make more seasons until she evolves into Lara. Remember, she already has two guns.

  • Yep, Clem is going full akimbo. I think that in the 4th season we might explore some tombs.

  • I can barely think it's a sequel to game that won GOTY 2012 awards.

  • What if, in season 2 you didn't kill Kenny and you chose Wellington? will there be a chance Kenny will be seen in the future seasons?

Telltale should have had the cojones not to lie in marketing, and Clementine is only there to keep the fans from not buying.

They're working with some shifty choices in regards to good writing rules and outside their original intention.

It's pretty clear that they wanted to try something new but didn't want to invest into it and for that we got this half baked piece of unenjoyable media.

Oh look, this again. This forum is always coming up with new discussion topics :P

Anyway, I actually think A New Frontier is better than Season 2( which I liked a lot) and much better than Michoone ( which I thought was boring). I find Javier to be a compelling protagonist, and I like his interactions with Kate, and his relationship with his brother. This season also feel s a bit more focused and tightly written with its stoorytelling compared to season 2 was, where it felt like the last two episodes of that season where just spinning its wheels until the finale. The voice acting is good too, I also like the new art style, its the best looking Telltale game to date imo.

My biggest complaint is that there was no reason to divide the premiere episode into two parts; they've could have easily put them into one 2 hour episode. Also there really is no reason for the "season creator" option when you start a new game, other than to decide which flashback you get in the premiere and penultimate episode. Kind of feels redundant to include it if it doesn't alter much, and the payoff is really worth it.

  • No its not

  • I'm saying it straight without unnecessary bullshit. It's pretty bad.

No matter how much I try to like this game and try to see it from different points of views, I always end up disliking it because there are so many things wrong with this game. And I'm NOT going to list all of them down here.

Before ANF was even released, I always knew it was going to be a hit or miss game. It ended up being a clear miss, which sucks.

  • Oh look, this again.

  • Personally i like the new frontier even though its technically season 2 and a half and i swear to God CLEM BETTER NOT DIE TELLTALE!!!!!! i mean i know shes gonna die but not now if your gonna kill her off do it in like season 5 if you make one plz i beg you
you guys wouldn't be dumb enough to kill your most popular character

  • This game would of been allot better had they just left Clem out of it, then maybe have Javi and Clem meet in season 4. This would allow us to get attached to Javi and then you bring in Clem.

  • Also, do you like the Gabe to be Clem's love interest?

Thats a poor excuse to dismiss ANF as a third season. There is no written rule that a third season should center on the protagonist of the previous season.

They shouldn't have put Clementine in this game at all. She doesn't contribute much to the story and she's just shoehorned in. They shouldn't have advertised this as a CONTINUATION of CLEMENTINE'S STORY if it's about Javier.

...so its pointless if they didn't listen to you guys the last twenty times.

That doesn't mean we can't try. They're the ones losing money, not us (except the £20).

  • Even though I have given it quite a bit of shit, I think that unless they do something crazy stupid in the finale, this season definitely isn't as bad as a lot of people say it is. It's not as good as the other two, but it's not such a bad game.

  • Same.

As a friend sure. But as a love interest, no.

  • Would you please explain what clementine "arc" your referring to this season? I'm assuming when she's discussing her period to a man she's known 2 days or flirting with Gabe?.

That would have been better, even though I am enjoying Clem's arc in this season.
