So I was wondering if we will ever need those batteries or the cassette player Mariana had( if you kept it)

    Doubt it.

    I don't even know why they bother giving us stuff to pick up at all anymore, none of it ever gets mentioned again - let alone used.

    You could use those batteries by giving them to Mariana. About the cassette player, you could keep it or give it to Gabe. I don't think you will use it.

    I believe the only thing you can pick up and use later on is a water bottle Javier can give to Kate. The rest is insignificant.

    Yeah, especially since she apparently traded some with Eli for her bullets previously. She was obviously heading in that direction, too, so she was probably planning to get some more before the herd showed up.
