When even Greg Miller shits on Telltale (Kinda Funny)

They talk about Walking dead in the video so I posted it in this section.

"Telltale was a fucking nobody before walking dead" - Greg
"You're fucking working on DC and Marvel and HBO and Image... do you not have the money and resources to build build something...."
"You're listening and you're responding... but how much are they"
"Are they putting out so many games that there's no time to go back and rebuild the engine"
"You already bought the season pass" "Exactly, I already fucked it up"
"Earlier this year they lost a bunch of talent" and then they start naming people like Nick, Piere and Adam.

oh boy

They also talked about it in a previous podcast (don't remember when exactly (but Waypoint's podcasts are good so you should subscribe and listen anyway)): https://waypoint.vice.com/en_us/article/we-discuss-telltales-technical-woes-our-favorite-gaming-details-on-waypoint-radio

  • Greg Miller?

  • Sorry I find Greg Miller pretty cancerous so I'm not that interested. I find most of IGN cancerous as well. I'm sure there's good points but I can't stand to listen to his voice.

  • Looking past grudges from interviews he did for a 3 year old game, he really wasn't bad at all during this interview.

  • That doesn't change anything, I cannot stand his personality. He deserves to be fired. Oops, I should have said that the WHOLE IGN company should be shut down.

  • How about you watch the video first. He barely even talks and they make a lot of points that arent all opinion but rather about things that are well known like Batman having technical problems, irregular release dates, etc.

    "This is Clem's story"
"They added Javier but I don't really care about him because I have no history with him"
    ^ Yes.

This was supposed to be Clem's story, but Javier was added because... there is no reason why.

    Good interview.

  • Wasn't a bad video, he made some good points (as much as I can't stand Greg Miller).I just can't get over the fact that they had a 1 minute sponsorship for fucking berries.com

  • I hated Greg Miller during the S2 era, and I gave him a listen with this interview.

They hit the nail on the head with this one, and I know there's a lot of people who shares the same opinion as I do regarding Telltale's management on their games -- it is shit.

Glassdoor reviews, inconsistent releases, buggy engine and clunky animations: That is Telltale's problem with trying to stay relevant with the overnight success of TWDS1, and to the honest, Telltale was nobody before that game was even made.

Guardians is a very good example of what I'm talking about. This game barely lived up to the hype, since it's a terrible game with a meh story and meh characters. These characters moved like robots and that's just my honest observation when I played through the first episode after constantly avoiding it.

This is alarming, and only a few sees that Telltale is slowly killing itself as a company and as a name in the gaming community. TWDS1's success will be tainted if Telltale continues to disregard the VALID complaints about their current games.

Very good discussion and they talked a lot about the people leaving Telltale and some of the problems with the way they make games that many people on here have obviously talked about in the past. To me, at this point, I think Telltale has become too big when it comes to their staff. This has caused the growing pains that have led to Dan Connors and Kevin Bruner stepping down as CEO's, and the reason why they need to keep hiring is because they are taking on too many projects at once. And I know I'm going to get someone to say how it's not a problem or they all have separate teams, etc. But the truth is that it is hurting the company and negatively impacting it, as many of these games now have too many people working on them and there is so much jumping around between projects that there is almost no consistency anymore.

I'm going to use TLOU as an example here. The sole writer on TLOU was Neil Druckmann, he dedicated many hours into the development and writing process for the TLOU, and it shows in the end product. Imagine if, halfway through writing the script, Naughty Dog took him off of it, said he was no longer involved with the project, put him on another game, and gave the reigns to someone else. This guy would have the notes and plans that Neil had created, but the end result is going to be drastically different than Neil's original vision because he wasn't involved with the project from the beginning. He'll have a rough idea of where the story would go, how characters would act around one another, but the overall feel and writing quality would be entirely different. And that right there is the issue with Telltale games, it starts off as a small, tight knit group, and then it grows and grows as it brings more and more people in as the desired release date comes closer (this includes more writers, designers, directors, etc.) and they all come in with different, and often times conflicting, ideas of how the game should go. But Telltale doesn't care, because they need to get this game out on the market place as soon as possible, and they think throwing more people at it, taking them off of other projects, is the way to go. It eventually becomes one long game of telephone, one guy starts with one message, it gets handed down from person to person, but by the time it reaches the final guy, the new message is incredibly different from the original one. And taking guys off right in the middle of one game and putting them on another game is not having separate teams.

My advice is that Telltale needs to condense their staff, if that means letting some people go, then so be it. This will cause Telltale to stop whoring themselves out and not take on so many new projects, have more tight knit groups of writers and designers on their already in development games, stop the constant frog jumping from game to game, create a much better and less hectic work environment, and create more employee value, giving Telltale an incentive to keep employees for the long term. And like they said in the video, take as much time as you need to make the games, whether its to improve story elements or fix the bugs. You need to give your employees a lot more creative freedom and not feel constrained and rush to meet impossible deadlines.

I know this isn't a well organized or written tirade here, but I'm in a bit of a rush and I just wanted to get it off my chest, because if Telltale continues on the way it is, then it's going to keep alienating its fans, even the most loyal ones like Greg Miller.

  • Both can be an example, but Guardians is a new game, so it was marketed in way that it was the "next big release" from Telltale. Which in fact, it is not. (FLOOOOOOP!)

ANF had some hype but that's because of the following they had from the previous two seasons.

Plus that damn Kenny Confirmed for S2 gif!!
