I'm pretty amazed by your opinion :O I can't believe you think ANF is better than S1 and 2. I'm glad telltale managed to strike a chord in at least someone though. I kind of wish I had your mindset on this season. I would love to be enjoying this season like you seem to be. But I just can't enjoy it at all, there are so many areas that you'd think you'd have a hub to hang out in for a while and it's just killing me.
I will say though that I most definitely don't hate this season. It's my least favorite by a long shot, but I do hope they continue the series and I do have faith that they can get back on track. I like what they're doing with Clementine's personality, and I would love to play as her again. But no more time skips please. And no more 8 writers per episode or whatever ridiculous amount of writers they had. 1 or 2 great writers is fine.
The fandoms a pretty big problem but I doubt anyone would find that a satisfying answer despite how true it is.
Honestly I love this seas… moreon, more so than even Season 1. Does that mean there's nothing wrong with it or no room for improvement? Of course not, there's always room to improve.
It doesn't bother me that much but since so many people want it I think more hubs where you can interact with all the characters is an obvious thing they need to implement more often.
The biggest thing is that determinant character deaths always tick people off, especially if they die in a way that feels like they only died because they're determinant. If they must die then at the very least their presence has to feel like it matters. Make the player feel rewarded for saving them. Don't fade into the background, give them involvement in the scenes. Conrad's a great example of this, not once has his presence ever felt like it doesn't matter, hell even… [view original content]
Ok...boy oh boy where do I start....I guess with bullet points....everyone loves those.
Telltale has seriously overreached when it comes to number of games being worked on at one time. Consider that since production of this game started..they have been working on around 10-11 games. That has to hurt production across the board....and ANF took the brunt of it because I think they just felt that it would sell regardless.
Rewrites were happening even during the VO sessions...and some were so massive that they changed entire plot points entirely. One would hope that you have your story nailed down before you begin the VO work. Apparently there were some really good scenes that were dropped because thematically, they no longer fit in the story. This is an indication of a systemic failure of management and basic editorial oversight.
Characters are unknowable. We know Javi was a baseball player and that he got banned....how is it we do not know the name of the team he played for...or even his position? Kate...supposedly the glue that kept them alive for 4 years...other than her failed marriage and her love of the weed and Javi...what else do we know about her? The kids we know shit about. Tripp...nada...Eleanor..lol nope.
Expanding on the previous point...why is it that we know almost nothing about the villains. Joan? Clint...well we know he was a botanist...Lingard...other than a druggie...he seemed awful loyal to David...we never see why though...we are just told he is.
David....all we really see is some of the bad things about him, why did they not try and make him at least a little relatable and a bit more sympathetic.
Gabe...wow, were the writers trying to sabotage any empathy the players may have had for the little shit?
ANF is like a high school play...you get to interact with rooms but never truly explore the base. I wanted to explore Prescott and Richmond....the art department put so much effort into what just turns out to be a videogame version of a mat painting.
As much trouble as I had with Kenny in s2...I would never have treated him or Jane the way this season did. This was just a basic fuck you to their fans.
Telltale lies...Ties That Bind 1 and 2...should have been 1 fucking episode...basically we got 4 episodes this season...Hopefully Kevin Brunner steps in dog shit on a daily basis. Job is bad at his job...and lied to us. Mostlypoptarts...I like her. But the lies even at the start did nothing to help the fandom nor the forums.
CLEMENTINE...I hope there is a season 4 so we can actually play as and interact with Clementine. Her total screen time is maybe an hour and a half. But boy oh boy...looking at the marketing...you would never know that. Worse...her role could have been given to any generic teenaged character and gotten the same reactions.
The Combat....It is so fucking uninteresting this season. I almost have to say the engine is to blame...but it worked pretty well in Batman. So what went wrong? I never had an ohshit moment like when Sam bit Clem or when Clem was escaping the bandits...or when fighting walkers on the bridge. The best combat was in Michonne....so what happened?
This season it looks like that no only did Telltale forget how to make TWD...they forgot how to make games in general. This is a shitpile with some interesting parts...but so many frustrating problems damage it. And for that...I still play....maybe it is out of obligation...or maybe it is just the warm fuzzy feeling I have from earlier installments. If TTG wants to call a mulligan on this season...I would be agreeable that it be that season no one talks about.
In the end, there are only victims that come out of all this mess. People have their faith in TTGs shaken...no one got the game that was advertised. The Voice Actors got paid...but they have to have been frustrated. The writers certainly did not come out of it looking good.
Holy shit what a time for disappointments ...Rogue One sucked....TWD sucked...season 7 sucked...Mass Effect sucked so bad the series is now on hiatus...what is a fan to do?
I love this season so much. I'm not going to say if it's my favorite yet until "From the Gallows" is out, but it's pretty amazing. With that being said, these are some things that can be improved for Season 4 or whatever they end up calling it.
Give Javier and Clementine the same amount of screen-time. Telltale already managed to do this brilliantly in TFTB. They just need to work their magic and VUALA! I love Clementine(who doesn't?) and I love Javier. I just want to be able to play both of them. If Season 4 does this, than I will be enthused!
Bring back some older characters. Now, I'm not saying to suddenly have Lilly, Mike, Bonnie, Arvo, all the 400 Days characters, Christa, Kenny, Jane and Molly just pop out of nowhere. That would be unrealistic and would ruin the believability of the world. With that being said, I genuinely believe that Kenny/Jane should appear in S4 ONLY IF you got the Wellington ending, or you left by yourself and kept either one of them alive. At least some of the 400 Days character should return. I would especially love to see Eddie and Nate again. Mike, Bonnie and Arvo are a mixed bag for me. On one hand, it would be interesting to see how Clem would react to seeing them again. On the other hand, Mike talked about heading south(Texas possibly), so I can't see them ending up further north in Virginia. Molly felt like a one time character and should stay unknown. A part of me really wants to see Lilly again, and another feels like her time to reappear has already come and past. I think it would have been interesting to have her as the leader of Wellington, part of Carvers crew or even a member of The New Frontier. So unless she's at McCaroll Ranch, I don't think we'll be seeing her again. Now, this is the big one: BRING BACK CHRISTA. I feel that there is still a story to be told with her. And maybe we can see the Fairbanks family again as well.
Either incorporate the comics more or abandon them completely. Throughout the series, Shawn, Hershel, Glenn, Michonne, Pete, Siddiq and Jesus have appeared. I'm secretly hoping that we'll be paying a visit to Alexandria, The Kingdom or the Hilltop in the finale, but I'm not expecting it. Assuming that we're going to continue living in Richmond, it would be almost impossible to not at least encounter one of the communities or The Whisperers, especially now that Jesus knows where they are. So, for Season 4, we need to either fully embrace the crossover and have both stories intertwine, or move Clem, Javi and Co. to a new location. If we decide to move to a new location, I think it's about time The Walking Dead took us to New York.
Bring back the hubs. This has been said a million times, so Im just gonna leave it at that.
Change the graphics. Go back to the S2/Michonne style. I'm not digging the new art as much. It looks oily and plastic.
And finally, bring back the changing main menu and end credits song(plus "Next time on The Walking Dead"). It really added some emotion to the game that I feel is missing with ANF.
Overall, this has been another great season. But as always, there's room for improvement.
Lack of character development, lack of HUB-areas, story is very rushed, ANF is forcing us to care about specific characters before actually … moregiving us some development about them, the story is full of plot holes and is badly written in general. Those are the main issues in ANF in my opinion.
As for how it could have been fixed, it's pretty simple. The story should go forward in a more slowed pace. We would have had more time for character development and area exploration and other stuff that contributes to the story. Now it feels like it's super rushed. And if it's rushed, there's little time for the things I mentioned earlier. Also, the infamous plot holes of ANF could have been filled.
We don't have those "slow" moments in ANF like we had in Season 1 (for example: Greene Farm, Drugstore, Motel, Train, Mansion, Crawford). But in ANF, there's pretty much none. And if there were, we weren't still given enough time to actually explore plac… [view original content]
Does Telltale really not care about the criticism they receive?
Apparently not. The most laughable thing is Job saying that Episode 1 was too big to fit into one episode which is why there is a Ties That Bind part 2. He obviously has had a knock on the head or erased Season 1 from his mind to know he is talking utter bullshit when 4 of the 5 episodes of Season 1 were 2 hours+
The episode length is the most baffling thing to me. People complain about it endlessly yet the first two eps in the season were barely an h… moreour long. Does Telltale really not care about the criticism they receive? I'm not saying the length needs to be long to be amazing (example TWAU ep 5), but this season is so rushed beyond belief. I don't care about literally any of these characters accept Clem and the only reason I care about her is because I've had two other seasons to bond with her.
The problems started with season 2. I enjoyed the story of S2 and it had some great moments and the feeling of TWD was still there but I already felt the magic had died back then. They stripped back so much of what Season 1 had. Episodes were shorter, the gameplay and hubs were less, we couldn't interact with the characters as often to find out more about their backgrounds. A lot of the episodes was watching/choosing dialogue and our choices felt limited like they didn't matter where as in Season 1 they did such as the Kenny/Lilly personality changes for example. They had none of that in Season 2 except 1 scene where Bonnie treats you like shit depending on whether you helped or covered Luke in Ep5.
So yeah the problems began there. They pulled at my heart strings with the Wellington ending which was probably the best part of the game in my opinion but as for Season 3, it has just accelerated so fast into the shit, there's just no going back (forgive the pun)

Did you honestly play Season 1 before Season 3? You are certainly the only person i have seen to actually think Season 3 is better than 1

Not allowing us to play fully with Clementine and have a choice to leave Javi and his entire family behind.
