Why was the Gabe selling you out scene written (In my opinion)
I honestly think that the writers wrote the scene with Gabe selling you out about Conrad (didn't happen in my playthrough, but that's beside the point) to make the future choice with Ava and Tripp a bit harder.
The flashback in the same episode gives more development to Ava and makes her more likeable, while the scene with Tripp raging makes him more dis-likeable.
Why would you just make it so that Gabe is hated by 99% of the fanbase?
I don't see any other logical reason...

Because people keep whining for their choices to matter.
In all seriousness they just wanted that choice to come back and bite you somehow, it was less to do with Gabe and more so about Javi's decision. Gabe outing you was the way it made the most sense.
I thought about that, and him selling out you makes decent sense, but I just don't understand why would they pile more hate onto him. He already wasn't liked by a lot of fans (I'm pretty neutral about him, to be honest).
Telltale is going to write the way they feel the story should go. I don't think they'll change a writing decision like "Well Gabe's already pretty disliked..."
Well, Im not gonna say that me killing Conrad was smart, or even justified (although I personally think it is), but, I will say that there didnt have to be MORE consequences for that choice, the people who saved Conrad already got everything, they have another character alive that is actually not just "there" like most determinants, Clementine is not even angry with them (for whatever reason, even though Javi just betrayed her trust, something she already has heaps of trouble with, trusting people that is), the only thing we get out of killing Conrad, is one line where Clementine says "he was justified, Conrad was crazy", I dont think that every choice should be justifiable, or that every choice should have the same positive/negative impact, but I do think that there should be consequences for both sides of a choice, in this case, killing Conrad is only consequences, and saving him is all reward, from what we have seen from Clementines character and her trust issues, it just seems like extremely lazy writing that she would just "forgive" Javier for betraying her, right after she entrusted him with her deepest secret, (something that was probably super hard for her, and she would probably not have done to anyone else still alive)
That's pretty much the only reason and that honestly bothers a little.
Personally, I think the scene itself is fine, but when synched up with the rest of the episode/story, it feels like it would've been better off on the cutting room floor.
Agreed, as I was looking forward to seeing how the broken/tense trust between Javier, Conrad, Gabe, and Clementine would make things determinately play out.
I think Gabe selling Javi out is a good way of showing that your choices/decisions have consequences. Most importantly, that your choices have some kind of impact on the story. To be honest, I think it's rather clever of Telltale.
As far as this scene influencing people's opinions of Gabe, perhaps that was more so unintentional? Actually ... I'm not sure if TT was expecting that Gabe would receive this much hate or maybe they did and plan on using that as some kind of choice that the player will have to make.
I do like that it came to light that we shot Conrad. I didn't care for the dialogue choices that lead up to it, however, as I thought it should've been more of an innocent slip up rather than an anger-spewed slip up. Or rather, if it were to be an anger spewed slip up, Gabe ought to have been in favor of shooting Conrad considering his feelings during the Conrad choice. The way that came about just didn't make a whole lot of sense to people.
I wish they'd caused some consequences for keeping Conrad alive as well on Clementine's end. That was a let down considering how powerfully Clementine reacts to her hatred of David. I think the moment could've been made even more powerful if she'd spit out ' So you are just like your brother ', or something of the sort. This would've lent itself well to the idea that there are 'no right answers'.
I think most logical choice after Gabe revealed the murder of Conrad, the most logical is chose Ava to live. Because Tripp gets angry and never want to see Javi again.
If agreed with Conrads plan the most logical choice would be Chose Tripp to live. Because Javi and Tripp seem to have a strong friendship.
