Why Dialogue Is Important
I think that The Walking Dead game is the best example to demostrate us that, for an interactive game, dialogue is crucial.
Thanks to dialogue, I actually had "feelings" for some characters. Dialogue crates and changes our persaption and opinion of the character . Also, even if dialogue makes the game slower, it also makes the game a bit longer. We don't need to search much for an example. Compare the characters with the first season and the third season. Do you like S3 Clementine because of her personality or because she is the only character left from S1? Let's not forget Ben, Larry and Doug/Carley.
Nevertheless, dialogue may cost an extra buck or two for the game devolopers and, I don't know about you, but nostalgia is a key factor that influences our criticism.
So, what is your opinion?
