David is the best character of ANF (Episode 5 spoilers)

Despite my frustration with the way characters were written in ANF, I actually ended up liking David compared to everyone else.

Sure he's got a temper, he's a loose cannon, and his whole deal with being a former soldier did get a bit grating at times but I though he was compelling, for this season anyways.

His characterization was consistent, his overall arc had a beginning, middle, and end and I actually kind of felt something when he died in one of the detrimental endings.

He's a guy caught between being a family man who wants to settle down and a solider who wants to keep fighting and that was an interesting arc to see unfold somewhat. David does seem like he genuinely cares about people close to him and given that he used to be soldier, it's understandable that he's determined to protect them from the world. Heck, I think David would have been a MUCH better protagonist compared to Javier Blandcia given his baggage is more compelling and that he actually has an arc and it even would have been satisfying if he took the mantle of being the new leader of Richmond which makes WAY more sense compared to Javier getting the job out of nowhere.

Despite that, I don't think David was really enough to save ANF as I thought Ep.5 was pretty flat overall with an awful ending as was the whole season but I consider David and his story to be one of the positive aspects of ANF.

  • I think he got the short straw when it came to plot points.

Would've been nice if the brother relationship had been more fleshed out. Personally I would've chosen to drop the romance drama and focus on the fraternal relationship, but alas he got the Lilly treatment.

  • Yeah, I agree with that. The brother stuff was more interesting compared to that cliche love triangle nonsense.

  • I was an asshole to David throughout my playthrough, but I agree.

David was one of the well (if not the best) written characters in ANF.

  • he was one of my favorite characters in the season due to the way that he was written. i dont like him anymore because he caused his own son to die or almost die, but i will admit that he was complex and one of the better written characters of the season

  • David is the right way to make tension without making the character hated or annoying. Gabe is the wrong way to do it. David was very confrontational throughout the entire season. But his character added a lot of tension. This made every scene he's in an interesting one. Gabe, on the other hand, really came off as annoying. I know they tried to make him likable in this episode, but it really was too late.
