Too Many Determinants (Ep.5 Spoilers)

Is it me or did anyone else dislike the fact that we have so many determinant characters and outcomes this season? Conrad, Kate, Gabe, David, & Lingard are all determinant in the end.

To me, I don't like it, especially if Telltale decides to go back to Javier and his family (which they shouldn't). We all know how multiple endings in S2 went down this season. If they ever decide to bring Javi back, it's a safe bet the determinant characters we chose to live will die early on.

I wonder if Telltale chose all these determinant characters because of how popular Conrad got by staying alive for most of the season? I get that it's nice to have a determinant character live for such a long time, but having so many do that too gets annoying and messy.

  • It's a two sided thing.

On one hand, it adds a lot of variety to different playthroughs, making the game that much more unique.

On the other hand, continuing Javier's story any time in the future would be a cactus in the ass.

On the one hand, it makes it feel that your choices mattered a lot. And they actually clearly did. I see many people still confused about how exactly to get Clem to stay with Javi vs split up with him when it comes to the David and Gabe or Kate choice near the end.

But yeah, going back to revisit Javi's story would be hard. If they do incorporate Javi into s4, I could see them JUST bringing back Javi - like Javi keeps his promise to teach AJ about baseball (;___;). It might be too complicated for them to bring back Gabe, David, and/or Kate (though the fact that Kate is 'missing' many times rather than just dead is interesting...)

At this point I really wouldn't mind Javi showing up by himself when Clem is back to being protag rather than seeing all these folks die all at once pff.

  • Yeah definitely.

I don't think there are many people who'd have a problem with Javi as a sidekick. Especially a punished Javi who just lost his entire family.

  • I think it's fine, because I honestly think that's the last we'll see of Javier.

He might get little mentions by Clem in Season 4/whatever is next, but apart from that I don't think so.

And I think that's why they did it. They were able to make such a variating story because of the fact that they weren't going to need to revisit it.
