Anyone else kind of upset on the way David was handled in episode 5?

  • gabe and kate become afraid of him because he goes bonkers first, though.

and in my playthrough javi was a total bro so the rage was completely unwarranted

  • I quite liked this episode, but it did feel like they made David too harsh this episode, Im also upset at the fact that supporting David when he breaks that woman in the apartments arm counts so much towards his relationship with Javi, but standing with him and supporting him on the roof did fuck all

  • I liked their dad though. He is pretty cool (my opinion).

I understand where you're coming from. It's hard to keep a promise like that with a hotheaded brother like David. When he grabbed that wrench I was like "Oh, hell no!" and pressed [Fight Back]. He even hit his own son with it and didn't acknowledge it! Just wow.

I liked the moment when Gabe said that he wants to be like Javi when they were walking on the overpass.

I even broke (Javi's father) Rafa's promise but I didn't give a damn because he wasn't introduced to the zombie apocalypse.

  • I was really frustrated with this relationship too.

Especially with the 'I'm literally standing on the edge, Javi' moment, when he is standing on the edge of the roof. I really thought that was his turnaround moment, where my trust in him would pay off and we would finally be brothers again and he was realising he needed to change for his family.

Then he tries to kill you with a wrench. wtf.

  • I love David but man was I disappointed at how the confrontation was handled, not only does Kate implies Javi and her had something going on even if he constantly rejects her and David still beats Javi up despite him being a good bro. I wish there could be an ending where after declaring your brotherly love three times David comes back to his senses and helps Kate and the rest of the group in helping Richmond. Now that would have been more satisfying.

  • To be fair to Kate, at least she was taking responsibility for creating the crisis, even if it technically wasn't her fault. David on the other hand...eh. Blood really means something, I guess.

He was all over the place, one thing i think was way off though was kate wanting to save richmond and david wanting to leave. They had been the opposite all game

  • At least Kenny had the excuse of losing loved ones repeatedly, surviving running through a herd through sheer luck, and getting his eye(and part of his stiff brain) fucked up before losing another [supposed] loved one. David was being a sore loser in comparison.

    You just described Kenny.

  • Yeah, I just thought he was okay after Above the Law established that he's not a one-dimensional abuser, so I have relatively little problem saying he could just get fucked in this episode.

  • I do believe that David character, as well as Kate's, were handled poorly because of this love triangle plot that forced drama down our throats, purely to create cheap drama and not meaningful conflict.

This. Much moreso with Kate though; one of the best things about this episode is that it gives her some involved screentime.

and then there's Gabe still standing by his father's side after making a speech earier about wanting to be more like his uncle

    Uh...when was this exactly?

  • And he could've been handled much worse coughsarahcough

What secret hidden ending did you get?

I think he was mostly in character, with the exception of him hitting Gabe the second time and not reacting. And he could've been handled much worse coughsarahcough

  • Yeah, I was disappointed in how he was here.
I like his character, I supported him throughout most of the season, but suddenly in this episode, he goes back to angry, insulting David from the first flashback in Episode 1.
I still support him, even after his crazy unnecessary outbursts (I try to tell myself he only acted this way to protect his family, as he was "being a soldier")... not happy with what he was though. Over-the-top drama for the sake of drama, and it was very off-putting and forced when connected to my "supportive Javi"'s story.

  • In my playthrough, it happened after we jumped over to the fire escape and took care of the walkers on the roof, if I remember correctly.

  • I liked his characterisation in the finale, it was one of the highlights of the episode for me. He had trouble coping with the fact that he had alienated his family, that they had changed from the people he knew before and felt a misguided sense of betrayal towards Javi who stepped as a father/husband figure (effectively replacing him) in his absence... and all that coupled with his hotheaded nature.... his anger, violence, and irrational response make sense. I liked the moments of self awareness he had. The ledge scene, confrontation and his final scene (saving both Gabe and him and convincing him to come back) were very well done in my opinion.

I was kinda confused because suddenly Kate wanted to stay in Richmond after wanted to get the hell out for 2 whole episodes, but I guess she felt guilty. David somewhat makes sense since he was all about protecting his family and "being a man" but I thought he would at least try to lead his people, being a soldier and all that.

  • Oh, that. At the very least, David was still his dad for most of his life and that's kinda hard for a kid to just let go of; hell, even Clementine had issues with that initially. And he mentioned that he wanted to help him come to his senses and change his mind, so I guess he thought going with him was necessary to do that.

  • Yeah, I finished my game after siding with David all season yet feeling really bad about it after having to shoot Kate.

His actions are really random and they went out of the way to make him the "bad guy" despite your actions to him the entire time, when he showed back up to Richmond at the end I kind of rolled my eyes.

Should have gone the complete opposite direction and sided with Kate... at least Javi would have gotten laid :o

  • i literally did that ending then what she do get herself kill , but who open richmond door for jesus and his crew to get in or Did she ran through the gap knowing she would die helping them inside

  • She died after plugging the whole, implying that she simply cooperated with one of them to open the gate and got bitten while plugging the hole since Javier isn't there to shoot the walkers that tried to climb up.

  • If we go by Kenny in S2 EP5 and David in EP5 there is very little difference in them.

Kenny and David are pretty much different even if there were some callbacks.

  • I just did not care at that point when it turned into Kenny 2.0 mode.

I think that parallel was deliberate, since Clem herself notices the similarities too.

Same just about. Breaking a woman's arm, determinately shooting her already down husband immediately afterwards, and then preparing to shoot her dead before knocking your frightened son to the ground for interfering will do that.

  • The difference is Kenny was legit going crazy/psycho in his attempts to get a baby to safety, while David was basically being a sore loser politically/megalomaniacally speaking.

  • Pretty sure Kenny would've did something quite similar. Obviously not every action they both did are identical, but Ray Charles can easily see the blatant same characteristics.
