The Story Going Forward
After finishing the last episode of this season I am left wondering where the story goes after A New Frontier. I thought the ending was handled well and that the choices you made this season were more noticeable. However, I am a bit conflicted about the future. I loved the ending I got and I am glad that Telltale decided to let Javi live (and more importantly avoid the dreaded determinant status). This makes me think that the reason they did this is because this is not the last we see of Javi and I honestly would not mind him being the protagonist again along with Clementine. Also it wouldn't make sense to introduce a new protagonist to only have him around for one season.
Then again, I am glad Javi got a happy ending, and with all the determinant characters at the end, I can't imagine any good outcomes should he return. I guess my main issue is, I like playing as Javi and I would like to play as him again, but I don't want Javi to lose everything he worked for this whole time. It seems he finally found sanctuary and he is with his loved ones and is actually alive so maybe this is for the best.
I do hope Telltale finds a way to make him come back without wrecking the outcomes of this season. I wouldn't want another Kenny/Jane incident. It would be very cool to play as the leader of a community too. By the way, I did not mention Clementine here, because I am sure no matter what, she will be back next season. So, how do you think Telltale would handle the next season?

I feel the same to be honest. Despite all the hate, Javi was great as a protagonist and it would be a shame to leave him out of the next season. I would like a 50/50 split between Javi and Clem. In my playthrough I told Clementine to bring AJ back and she did not oppose this so I am guessing this is not the last we see of Richmond in general.
I did have an idea that could work. Maybe Mccarroll ranch was overrun and was relocated to a place far away so Clementine asks Javi for help and the two of them set off to find AJ. Javi leaves who ever survived at the end (Kate or David) in charge while Clem and him go cross country to bring back AJ. I don't know just a thought. I do hope both of them will be incorporated next season.
When I told her this, she was surprisingly silent. She didn't oppose, but she didn't accept either. Maybe she's doubting about coming back after what happened to Richmond before.
That may be true as well, but I am hoping she would return now that Richmond is safe. After all, once she finds AJ she needs a safe place to raise him and now that she knows and trusts Javi it makes sense to return. That could also be a theme next season. Based on how we play as Clementine she can either comeback or leave somewhere else.
That sounds really interesting. I can see it going like if you raised AJ alone, she'll want to stay raising him alone. If you raised him in Wellington, she'll want to go back to Richmond. If you raised him with either Kenny or Jane, she'll have to decide between the two.
That would be a good way of handling it. Maybe her decision can also be influenced on who is still alive at the end? Like maybe if Gabe or Kate are alive she would want to come back, but if David or Conrad are still alive she might not want to. Either way I hope they find a way to make it work.
I think it would be really cool if Telltale introduced a bit of community-managing: remember the rationing in season one? Wouldn't it be awesome if we got to make some decisions that influenced not only the protagonist's story, but the community as a whole? And with Javi leading the New Frontier, all of this becomes quite possible.
I really don't want Javi's story to be over. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Clem being a protagonist again, I loved playing as her. But I also REALLY loved playing as Javi. He's such an awesome character and I don't want his story to be over.
I will say, after episode 5, Javier actually grew on me quite a bit, I feel like the season was too short, since I only just started to care about the characters before it was all over.
I would love for Javier to be a big character again in the next season, but Clementine being the main character (which it seems she will be if "Clementines story will continue" is anything to go by, I think Javier is a more interesting character to have as a secondary character than Clementine, because due to his family and stuff, his morals are alot more clearcut than Clementines, which would make for a great character to reign in Clementines morals if that makes sense, because after what Clementine has been through, I feel like no matter how you look at her, there is justification for both her being cold and distant, and her being survivor minded but trusting, whereas Javier seems more like a good person all around, and frankly no matter how hard I tried, I would not be able to justify some of the choices I made in season 2, if season 2 had been about Javier
It does feel pretty natural to play Javi as a 100% good guy but he can do some pretty messed up stuff in ANF. I mean if you really want to you can make him about as bad as Kenny was in Season 2 and bash a man's brains in.
I agree with that. It would allow us to experience a new role with potentially more consequences based on our decisions.
I am sure Javi will be in the next season since he is alive no matter what. Same with Eleanor. Besides, at the end of season 2 everyone thought that was it for Clem but her story will continue. I'm sue the same can be said for Javi
Javi ends up being the leader of Richmond no matter what, and they meet Clem after she got reunited with AJ. He tells an emotional story about how everyone died and how Richmond got overrun. They part ways.
Javi grabbed whoever's alive, packed up a random truck and started their journey to Florida. Then everyone dies in a car crash (in a flashback).
Conrad becomes a new protagonist of A New Frontier Season 2: A Final Frontier - Part 1.
Something happens to AJ. Clementine, alone and weary, starts her arduous journey to get him back. We play as Clementine's hat.
I honestly doubt Javier will be the protagonist for season 4 unless they make all the side characters disappear somehow. There's too much baggage already.. Remember the last time we had multiple endings? And how they dealt with it next season?
I honestly think S4 will follow Clem again, not only because they will need to get away from Javi plus whoever survived at the end of ANF, but also because they probably know they made a mistake by putting Clem as a side character (with all the backlash they received and decisions being super one sided because of her)... BUT I don't think Javi is completely out of the picture. I fully expect him to show up as well, only this time as a side character probably.
As for what I want, I want to play as Clem again. I do like Javier and I hope we'll get to see him again, but I like Clem and her story more, to be honest...
I liked playing as Javi this season, but I'm 100% sure they'll go back to Clem being the sole protagonist next season.
I think all of S4 will be about finding AJ. It will probably be more difficult to get him back than we currently expect. Sure, they'll be smaller SLs, a new villain and a new group but the overarching goal will be AJ.
I can see something along the lines of... Clem finding AJ / other SLs being resolved by 4x05 and then Clem saying something along the lines of "lets go home " / "there's a couple people I want you to meet" etc. to AJ and the final scene being them reaching Richmond and being greeted by Javi (and possibly the other determinate characters).
My Javi went to find David and Gabe alone. Fighting his way across the walkers alone like that made me remember when Lee crossed the herd on Savannah.
I really loved playing with him. And I want to see him and control him again.
The way it looks I don't think we'll be seeing anyone from Richmond since Clementine has went on her own and who knows where we'll end up once we get to the ranch. It also appears that telltale essentially wrapped up Javier and the Garcia's story at the end of EP5.
Javi should be in the next seasons no matter what. Him being a leader of a community opens the doors for really interesting potential choices and a new concept of story. We only had small groups of people surviving on the road.. and Jesus said, that "life inside walls is hell of a lot different".
But more importantly, we DESPERATELY need more characters that do NOT get killed off every season. We need less new characters introduced and have more characters carrying over MULTIPLE seasons. You know, develop them instead of killing everyone.
And if characters leave/part ways, use other solutions than permanent deaths.. so you keep the chance to use characters again later.
"Hang on, Gabe!" I loved that scene so much! Somehow ten times more epic than Javi saving an entire community from a herd.
I'd rather have his story ended because he shouldn't end up like Kenny/Jane and Omid.
Then Richmond would end up like Wellington.
I completely agree Javier and Richmond got a fairly happy ending (for me) and the Garcia arc feels finished. Let those characters go and move on.
That's exactly what Telltale HAS TO PREVENT from happening. No matter what Javi said at the end, there should be no choice to leave Richmond. He had to stay, because a determinant community does not work.
I really hope telltale does not make Richmond fall (again) and like every other community.
If telltale could execute it properly it would be interesting to see them handling Javier as a leader of Richmond whose leadership and character is based on how you played as Javier who becomes a NPC.
There is no point for Javier to come back. His conclusion was perfect.
When I finished the game Clementine said something along the lines of "Will you teach AJ about baseball" implying that she might come back. I'm curious was this determinant? If not then I can see next season being about Clem finding AJ and returning at the end.
From what I've seen everyone gets that response from Clementine.
We saw how that worked with Clementine in S2.
I've always like Javi. But. his story is finished. I really don't see a reason why they need to "continue" his story when they already wrapped it up well.
I'm hoping that means this isn't the last we see of Javi and co.
Since everyone except Javier and Eleanor are determinant at Richmond i highly doubt we'll be seeing few to anyone from Richmond. I do believe at some point we'll see Javier in Clementines story. Also worth noting that depending on where telltale takes the story we may not return to Richmond.
I felt that Clementines story was wrapped up at the end of season 2 but she came back. Maybe the same thing can happen with Javi. He is alive after all
