I hope so. No idea if Kirkman would agree with this, but it would definitely add a lot of interesting opportunities to the story and ingame-world of TWD.

The comic already has a community that is there basically just as a trading partner and takes no part in the story other than that (Oceanside). No reason to think that Richmond wouldn't become a trading partner like that as well.

No it will be different than Wellington. TellTale put a lot more effort into developing the Richmond community than they did Wellington and they wouldn't be so willing to let it go that easily. Basically all they did for Wellington was show the outside of a wall and one particular community member.
Yeah, but it's gonna fail all the same because it's just another meaningless community which gets destroyed once the main hero kicks in.
I think Richmond is going to be its own undoing. I feel that former communities that were raided by Richmond in the past will form together and enact their revenge. Richmond pissed off a large number of communities and is somewhat in a weak position right now. It wouldn't take much.
Plus, what would Richmond trade in the network?
