Why do people with the Wellington ending get so shortchanged?
I feel like those with the Wellington ending are not deemed as important in the writer's eyes.
We didn't get another flashback in episode 4. While those with the other endings have the option to hug/kiss/hold hands with Gabe, we had nothing. I really don't understand why that was the case for both.
Was Wellington the least chosen ending in S2? That's the only reason I can think of as to why they disregarded that ending completely.

Kenny and Jane's endings recieved one more flashback because of the backlash they recieved in episode 1 (completely justified, though), whereas Wellington and Alone endings didn't recieve that much criticism. The additional flashbacks for Kenny and Jane are like... an apology of sorts in my opinion.
Regarding the final scene with Gabe, I have no idea. I don't see why going with Jane involves a kiss, while going with Kenny or Alone involve hugging or holding hands. It doesn't make any sense.
I feel like that was our reward.
The Kenyy and Jane flashbacks are to give you (Clementine) one last moment with the character you loved and lost. It's not that the writers don't care, it's that there was nothing to do with it.
All the diverse endings that transition into ANF are really bad. If had to choose the best one it'd be the alone ending merely because the alone ending doesn't have any major characters that die. I've made a lot of comments about these endings, the longest one being the Wellington ending. Where you learn absolutely nothing about Wellington. It's just as mysterious as it was in season 2 and like I say every-time, it's either corporate's fault, or it's the writers fault.
When people choose to be in Wellington, they expected to see this diverse community that Edith claimed was 'over capacity'. Along with these big walls, how in the world did this antagonistic community even gain access to Wellington and start killing everyone? The only people we meet in Wellington are the only people we've seen in Season 2. I think there's only one civilian we saw from the Wellington gate that was being shot at, most likely to be reused as another model in ANF's community.
They've could've made something with Wellington, if I was put into that position, I would equate it to a writers dream. You have the potential to make something great out of this. But instead these writers, or corporate decided to not explain anything whatsoever about Wellington. They probably thought it would be too much work with all the new characters they'd have to put in, in comparison to Jane and Kenny, which only had Jane, AJ and Clementine in the Jane ending and Kenny, AJ and Clementine in the Kenny ending.
ANF can be summed up to the words in the title; Shortchanged. Because you're basically getting half of the game-time of what you got in Season 1.
Wellington also received backlash (although not to the extent of Jane/Kenny). I remember a lot of people getting angry about how "easy" it was for Wellington to be taken over by a couple bandits given how it was portrayed to be in S2.
It wasn't just a few bandits, the New Frontier took it over.
Was it confirmed to be NF? I remember thinking that too, but I thought someone here disproved that theory.
Regardless, given how big Wellington is and their ample supplies / weapons (to the point where they hand it out to people for free), the couple of cars filled with bandits/NF/whoever they were should have been no match for them.
It's on the wiki, but I think they allude to it in the game. I'm not 100% sure though.
No, I think Wellington was 2nd most got ending.
I kind of have the feeling that the Wellington ending was put in there as kind of a 'ride off into the sunset' moment for Clem incase they didn't make anymore games about Clementine. And it is a perfect ride off into the sunset ending for her (and really so is the Jane ending to a degree).
We know that they were planning on making a third game even before the second game ended however we don't really know that they originally planned on using Clem. And given she really seemed shoehorned into ANF makes you wonder if the decision to put Clem into the third installment came later.
When it was decided to put Clem into season 3 they had to find a way to get out of all those 'ride off into the sunset' endings. And 'ride off into the sunset endings aren't the easiest thing to write a character out of.
Because LazyTale figured out it would be helluva easier to merge Wellington and Alone endings together.
I respectfully disagree with the people who say that Wellington didn't need another flashback and couldn't provide an emotional moment. We could have played as Clem at the moment where Kenny walked away into the sunset. We could have seen a flashback where we see that Kenny still visits from the woods but hes out of supplies and has to leave. We Could have had Clem being on gate patrol when the hostile group showed up the first time.
It was disappointing to see Wellington not getting another flashback and i didn't even get this ending.
Agreed. I had the Wellington ending and I really was excited to see more of Edith to learn more about her-- she seemed very nice. I wanted to be able to, you know, actually see inside Wellington and know more about it.... Instead we got completely shafted... forgotten. :-/
As a writer myself, Wellington absolutely was a writer's dream....
I'm so tired of all the wasted potential in Telltale's TWD. It's like they do on purpose or something because it happens so fucking often. I once found a gif of all the deaths in s3 on Tumblr of Jane, Kenny, and Edith. I stared at the Edith one for at least 5 minutes straight just internally shaking my head at all the wasted potential, not even joking.
Ok so I got the Wellington ending but it won't let me continue my story from it.
Nope. Pretty sad that they made such a big deal out of Wellington in the previous game only to make it a virtual pointless plot point in the end. I imagine they learned their lesson from having multiple endings and that is why we basically just got one ending in ANF.
didn't someone write Jane was a thot on wiki
Christa wanted to go to Wellington. So did Kenny. Season 2. Main plot.
And yet that ending doesn't get shit. Yup.
I was really excited with the Wellington ending. It's the one that had the most potential in my opinion. A new community, new faces to meet, perhaps old ones such as Lilly or Christa. Imagine the leaders of this community, kids being involved, the negotiation with said attackers, the expansive hubs we should've come to expect.
I'm a writer too, leading a series myself with several other authors who have decided to join, and to be honest, for a writer to not even take this opporunity to make Wellington SOMETHING... Is really heartbreaking. To have your fans wait eagerly for two-three years to see how this path is explored and then realize that there's is nothing...
I'm not sure if the writers are at fault here. Why would a writer literally push something like this away? This should've been a dream come true for them. The writing for ANF in whole is still pretty bad, but I'm not sure if they're entirely at fault for it. I think corporate is responsible because for 1. Allowing this to happen and 2. Probably forcing the team to work on ANF on a very restrict time schedule. I wish we had a full report on what was going on during ANF's production so things like this don't happen in the future.
I got fucking pissed off when I saw the Kenny flashback. Because I knew the exact same thing was going to happen in all of these endings, (Knowing how alternate choices work). They're short and cheap as fuck. If anything, ANF was only made this bad because they wanted to push away from the diverse endings from Season 2. They knew that it would require a lot of effort and hence, this is what we got. Someone elses story to 'appeal to new fans' which is totally bullshit. You're doing it wrong if you're playing from a sequel.
The guy who shot that girl on the "balcony" or whatever, where Edith stood, had a New Frontier tattoo on his right arm.
Because they chose security over liberty?
Hey, maybe they'll reward the Kenny fans and make him actually alive in the McCarroll ranch? Heck I know that's too far a stretch, Clem is my new canon Kenny anyway.
I just wanted to post this picture tbh. Both just stayed side by side in my picture library, the expressions are so uncanny.
I was honestly extremely salty about how they handled Wellington in Season 2. You expect me to believe that the community that was being hyped up for the entirety of Season Two is a push over, Clementine yet again survives unscathed and makes it to the same place with AJ, and Edith, an entirely new character with so much potential automatically dies before we even get to know her??????!?!?!?!? I absolutely HATED how they handled the Wellington ending.
I read a theory that it could've been The Saviors?
Honestly, this 'third season' in general makes me hope they remake the game at some point in the future, at this point, I honestly wouldn't be angry if they decided to reboot the games (except kept Season One the way it was with better changes and keeping some of the originally cut content).
The saviors are way too far, and they don't raid like that. They scare the shit our of you and keep you as a slave, they don't go around killing people pointlessly, because "You can't work for me if you're dead".
By the time New Frontier takes place, The Saviors are pretty much done and Negan isn't the leader anymore.
I like the idea though of Saviors raiding a community in the game.
But the raid on Wellington happens in between ANF and Season 2.
